The messenger or
distruction (means destroyer) highly symbolic in Revelation 9
They have as king over them the
angel (messenger) of the abyss, whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon Re 9:11.
Why do you think the writer dropped the word bottomless from verse 11 whereas its quoted in verse 1&2?
Thoughts?
Not literal od course! Again highly symbolic.

Enjoy!
This term is used as representing the flesh in political manifestation (ruling powers of an age!).
The way its used in the Apocalypse is the serpent incited rebellion against the express commands of God in Gen 3, and the spirit of such has been manifested by flesh and its institutions ever since. You would need to understand the full interpretation of the Revelation but you struggle to understand simply concepts such as personification and reading in context so I couldn't expect you to understand the Lord’s letter to his Saints.
