Thank you for the question
@BarneyFife
So....
M. De Sade, apparently learned his fetish ideology and licentiousness at a Catholic School, when he was quite young.
Its not clear if he was steadily molested by the Jesuits, or if He was just sexually aroused by the beatings, (corporal punishment).'
His life story, reads very similar to Lord Byron's, and John Wilmot. (Earl of Rochester)
All 3 of these were seriously sexually deprave people.. who live a life devoted to extreme hedonism and debauchery .
So, regarding David O' Selznick,...... He had ultimate power over His actresses, and took "liberties" with them, in a world of "flesh and the devil".. where the lust for fame, causes women to "do anything" to "be a star, on the big screen".
This has not changed, in the last 100+ years., its just been updated.
David 0' Selznick, did marry Jennifer Jones,.. and who can tell if that is because He loved her, or wanted to own her, and "farm her" regarding his ambitions.
It could be that because Jennifer Jones was very smart, .. she understood her power on the Screen, and wanted to marry someone who had the ultimate capacity to keep her face "in the Lights".
So, who was "using who"? ?,
I can't know that, but, it can be speculated., as "both side now.."
And regarding the movie... "Song of Bernadette".... (The Soundtrack is one of my Favorites).. (Alfred Newman).
O'Selznick understood "good script", and the "Bernadette" Novel that became the book, is an incredible book. As the writing is not only beautiful but inspirational, regarding "Bernadette Soubirious".. The Author, who is a Jew, had made a promise to God in '1942, that if God saved Him from Hitler, he would write this book.
He was saved by an American Woman soon afterwards..., and wrote an amazing book, that takes liberties with the actual story, but, this artistic license, is acceptable, as it is a "Novel".
I love the Movie, "Song of Bernadette" but its the Saint Herself, in real life, beyond the "visions", that is the true wonder of her Life.
The Catholic Cult made merchandise
$$$$$$$$$ out of Her "Legend"... and still do to this very day, and yet, she never became anything later in life and until her tragic death.... but a sweeter soul and more devoted to Jesus, yet, of course had the typical "cult of the virgin" ideas regarding "Mary".
I enjoy the spiritual life of any great Christian that can be studied and Bernadette's short life, is very inspirational.
Ive 5-6 books based on Her Life and Spirituality and Ministry.
I have similar books on many other "Saints".
