A reasonable question. Most people take it as a promise given to both Abraham and to those who share in his faith. That would, of course, include Israel, if they were really walking in the faith of Abraham. And it would also include Christians today who are walking their faith.

But yes, it is, first of all, being directed to Abraham, who is viewed as the father of our faith. Our faith is in Jesus, but God began making promises that are fulfilled in Christ with Abraham, the man of faith.

For a better understanding of how God's blessings work towards those who engage in Abraham's faith, look at the blessings and curses given to Israel and Mt. Gerazim and Mt. Ebal. There are blessings for obedience, but curses for disobedience. We must assume that the enemies who were to come against Israel would be punished, because it is said that obedient Israel would rout them.

But, that's the crux of the issue, right? Israel did NOT share in Abraham's faith:

Jews: "Abraham is our father".
Jesus: "Ye are of your father the DEVIL".

HOWEVER, WHO DOES THE BIBLE SAY HAS ABRAHAM AS THEIR FATHER?

"And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise" says Paul in Galatians 3.

So, the promise of "bless them that bless you" now belongs to the Christian church - not those who today occupy the ancient land of Israel - but the saints who are the true "seed of Abraham" and the "Israel of God"...who "walk according to this rule (of the New Creature in Christ Jesus)" says Paul in Galatians 6.

Israel sometimes obeyed God, and sometimes they disobeyed God. To say that because at the time of Jesus they were in the midst of national apostasy they were always that way is not true. To say that because Israel historically had a hard time obeying God they were always evil and out of compliance with God's covenant is not true.

I hear this all the time, and clearly, you are judging the entire nation by those who failed. The entire nation did *not* always fail. They faithfully entered into Canaan and conquered their enemies. They hailed God as their one and only God. The fact they later failed in some parts of the nation did not mean all failed.

It was a process, one that ultimately does lead to national failure. But along the way, many acts of obedience take place. The story of the judges and the stories of the kings illustrate this.

If a man has compelling Scripture I can. But you have nothing on this subject that teaches "that the temple sacrifices (among other religious practices) mark the people of God as Holy People." This is where your argument crumbles. We have countless Scripture that has been dismissed or ignored that forbids the continuation of such a worthless system. You are wrong about this because the Bible clearly teaches that if and when the Hebrews obey all of God's commandments, ordinances, and statues, this will mark them as his holy people as I demonstrated from the book of Deuteronomy. I can multiply other verses but this one should suffice.

I visited Israel and actually tried to sign up to work *for free* on a kibbutz, and was nearly accepted. There were extenuating circumstances, and I was turned down.

I know your position has been strongly refuted here, but, please answer the question: is Ezekiel 40-48 historic or future in your millennium? Answering a question with a question is normally admission that you have nothing.

I am not going to answer until you admit that Ezekiel was not a false prophet. If you think he was a false prophet, then what good would it do for me to prove anything from that text? I see no events or situations, predicted by Ezekiel, that align with history. I believe that Ezekiel speaks truly. Therefore . . .?

Both of these prophets speak truly in my opinion. I have not studied Nahum so I can't speak to that verse.

With regard to Malachi 3:2, he employs figurative language -- a refiner's fire -- to speak about the day of his coming. In Malachi 4, the fire is real fire, but in that context, the fire is limited to Palestine.
