John 5:24 NIV
“Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged
but has crossed over from death to life.
This to me means, that we are in the resurrected life of Jesus...we are Alive with him in spirit.
Yes!
Great post.
I am trying to convey this idea of spiritual life and death. (as opposed to physical life and death)
You seem to understand.

I am attempting to make that case that A&E died spiritually on the day they ate thereof.
That spiritual death defines the consequences of the Fall in the garden. (or at least the biggest one)
And that the remedy is NEW spiritual life in Christ. The indwelling Spirit gives spiritual life to our mortal bodies.

What did he mean by killing and destroying the soul?
Not sure if this is off-topic or not. (as if I would give a rip... - LOL)

From the UR perspective it means dismantling our person (soul) to the point of renovating it in entirety.
We are body soul and spirit. The spirit is not destroyed in this process of restoration. Everything else has to go.

He's using physical life and physical death as a metaphor for something else, but what?
How many kinds of life and death are there?
I'm amazed that everyone balks at this.

Life
- Physical life
- Spiritual life

Death
- Physical death
- Spiritual death

I would say that our spirit is separated from God, as a non believer ,it needs to be resurrected by the Spirit Of God, it needs raising from death to life..just another way of putting it.

It needs to be Born Of God’s Living seed.

LOL
That's what it feels like.

It seems so obvious to me.
But I struggle to support the idea.

One nugget I remember from a long-ago Bible study. Our pastor was leading a study on one of the gospels, and he said one of the reasons Jesus spoke in parables ("The Kingdom of God is like...") is because He was trying to put into words concepts for which we humans have no words.

So, you have something in common with Jesus, no matter what they say.

Seems like you have to read between the lines to see it. Here's another one.

When we were dead in our sins God made us alive with Christ.

What kind of "dead"? What kind of "alive"?

Colossians 2:13-14
When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh,
God made you[a] alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins,
14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us
and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.

Yes.
Born again.
Physically or spiritually?

John 3:3-4 NIV
Jesus replied, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.[a]”
4 “How can someone be born when they are old?” Nicodemus asked.
“Surely they cannot enter a second time into their mother’s womb to be born!”

There's something to that.
Jesus comments in John chapter 3 have come up here.

Why the need for spiritual rebirth? Is something dead?

John 3:5-8 NIV
Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you,
no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.
6 Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit[a] gives birth to spirit.
7 You should not be surprised at my saying, ‘You[b] must be born again.’
8 The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where
it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”[c]

Busted relationships are something I can related to.
LOL
Tell us more. (just kidding)

This is a good point. The idea that it was our relationship with God that was severed in the garden.
The whole idea here is REGAINING that severed relationship. A return to the ideal.
