But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.
Isaiah 40:31

This verse is near and dear to me as this is part of my calling to serve the LORD, but what struck me today is the "wait upon the LORD" thing. Sometimes we want to rush into our calling, force our way in, instead of waiting upon the LORD to place us where we belong.

For example, I Know that part of my calling is to write a book, I have tried to begin writing this book to no avail as the Spirit has yet to lead me to that point, perhaps my understanding is not complete, Perhaps the time is not yet for such a book, perhaps He just needs to finish some work in me that will allow me to write that book? So I wait upon the LORD to direct me and lead me in this regard.

The same is true of my relationships. Since my divorce I know I have been praying for a woman to love. I Know I have tried to ask a few ladies out, but to no avail, But I Know the LORD has the right person out there for me, that he is waiting to develop this Love in His time, not my time.

Learning to wait upon the LORD is an act of faith we can live by everyday which teaches us to release our anxiety of the present and lean on our hope in the future providence of the LORD. When we wait on Him He will lift us up and let us soar like the eagles.

For encouragement for anyone feeling anxious about their situation. Myself included.
God Bless

Do you think we can point to Jesus of Nazareth as an example (the example par excellence?) of someone who waited upon the LORD?

Ultimately yes, Christ humbled himself to the point of death on the cross Only to be lifted up and finally glorified. God Loves a humble and contrite heart and those are the ones who are waiting upon the LORD, whether they are practical worldly needs or heavenly rewards in the life to come. (The least will be greatest)

Reminds me of Philippians chapter 2.

@David H.
Is.40:31 ( context 28-31 )
This has always been a favorite of mine too from Isaiah.
This chapter extols the greatness and supremacy of the God who is the " I am "

Not once has he needed to consult with any nor had his plans pre-approved . He doesnt grow weary or become faint at existence ; HE SIMPLY IS AND WILL EVER BE !

We are like grasshoppers in his sight. He sets ppl up and he brings them down. We are as the grass that withereth and fades back into the earth.

Yet his love and all that he holds he gives to those who realize he is everything ;our shepherd who feeds and tenderly cares for his flock. His arm is NOT shortened, nor his ear deaf that he doesnt give to those who wait and trust in him.

It is in Him and He alone that we must wait, for it is God who will renew our strengths that we may soar as the eagles, nesting in the higher points. He will help us to run this race with patience and not be weary in well doing.
He will give strength to the dry bones and cause us to rise up on strong feet and stand tall for him. All we must do is wait upon the Lord.

Blessings.

Amen. Be strong in the Lord brother.

It's funny you talking about writing a book. I was very hesitant to write a book, although during this Covid period I felt constrained to do so. So I did. It took a year and a half. The result...after much labour...is a biggish book called "The Sum of All Possibilities in Christ". It offers a template that brings the whole counsel of God into perspective. The ways of God in general and the way of God in Christ in particular.

When it is available as an ebook I will "launch" it here. Right now it is available on Amazon, but only in softcover at this point. :)

Since my divorce I know I have been praying for a woman to love. I Know I have tried to ask a few ladies out, but to no avail, But I Know the LORD has the right person out there for me

“…Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.” (1 Corinthians 7:27)

If you can, save yourself the trouble:

“But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.” (1 Corinthians 7:28)

I can attest by experience that this scripture is so true. I was single for many years as a Christian and actually prayed for the desires of a woman to be taken away from me (I had been in a prior unmarried relationship before getting saved and it went very badly).

Nevertheless circumstances arouse where I married a Christian woman from an Independent Fundamental Baptist church. I had much, and continue to have occasionally, much trouble in the flesh in this marriage. It seems God is using this experience to nurture patience and control in me (my guess). I’ve not been tested in my faith so severely anytime before this marriage.

But it is another weight I added to my cross and I must bear it.

My advice to single men is STAY SINGLE and follow the Lord without distractions!

“And this I speak for your own profit; not that I may cast a snare upon you, but for that which is comely, and that ye may attend upon the Lord without distraction.” (1 Corinthians 7:35)

Offered for balance.

“A man who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the LORD.”

(Proverbs 18:22, HCSB)

My general advice to men is to seek and find a wife, seek and find a good thing and obtain favor from the LORD.

I think…well, I know, that God wants us to keep in our hearts what He has shown us, if He has shown us, what He will have us do. But it’s when we can be trusted and even say, I won’t do it until and unless You go with me and tell me to go and I will die not writing a book and will be fine with it if not - that’s when I believe He says, you’re perfect for the job. Because then you are ready, any selfish ambition or pride regarding what He told you you would do is gone from you and any jumping out ahead of Him rather than waiting is gone.

God does not see us as a group but as individual believers of his love and mercy.

What he may call upon one to do may be just a simple act to another and vice versa. We Will however, be responsible for each call and give account to either our obedience or rebellion.

We walk this way by FAITH ; faith in a Lord and Master that desires only the best for and of us.
Our desire may be to make a grand gesture in his honour and glory, but his desire is the widows mite if it is ALL and the BEST we have to give.

I say not only must we WAIT upon the Lord but we must REST in him also.
Heb.4:1-4 speaks in context to the fact the gospel was preached unto us a ppl that profited in his message by faith and by faith enter into his rest, eventhough the works were finished from the foundations of the world.

Stand fast, wait upon the Lord, rest in his assurance and love knowing our hope is in him. Do not MOVE beyond God but allow the Spirit to give direction and your walk will GLORIFY HIM !

@L3astAm0ngManyB13ss3d Interesting indeed that the exhortation to trust in the Lord in Proverbs 3.5-6 is in the singular; to the individual....

Can we be trusting enough to say, I know what God's will is for my life, it's revealed in my circumstances? To accept the conditions and burden of the day, trusting that all this is according to His love for me?

When you delight in the Lord, your desire is for Him.

Much love!

It is ABSOLUTELY individual.
I'm thankful it is so, for by my own innocenence or guilt will I be judged !
Judged
by a God who is unbiased and sees the motives of the heart.

He bases our blessings and our cursing upon his word, that is truth !

May each find their place among the halls of heaven ,not by might, nor by power but by my Spirit, for this is the word of the Lord !
