  • What are the implications of remission of sins through the name of Christ versus remission of sins through the Atonement?
  • Why do you think it should matter?
Sorry not sure what you are asking
I would say that even in the old testament God accepted animal sacrifice based on Christ shedding his blood........the people didnt know this they offered sacrifices by faith in his commandments..........Israel only knew they had to receive Christ...............[Jhn 1:11-12 KJV] 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:

[Act 10:43 KJV] 43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.

The Gentiles in Acts 10 could not be in the body of Christ because they believed Peter's preaching.......Peter didnt preach the mystery of the body of Christ as did Paul.....they believed remission of sins thru the name of Christ not the cross........therefore Gentiles were the grafted branches in the remnant of Israel
I agree that we are not saved by a piece of wood, but Paul uses "the cross" as an indication of the Saviour's sufferings:

“For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.” (Eph 2:14-16 NKJV)

I recommend you tighten up the logic there; the context of John 8 does not mention being Messiah. Note the [he] is in brackets, indicating it was added by the translators. "Believe that I am"? Believe I am what? Or who? No matter. Let's address the second question:
  • What are the implications of remission of sins through believing in the name of Christ versus remission of sins through believing in the Atonement?
No Messiah is not said directly but Jesus was saying they had to believe on him as their saviour..............[Isa 43:11 KJV] 11 I, [even] I, [am] the LORD; and beside me [there is] no saviour.

You've differentiated those who follow Christ because they believe He is their savior (Peter's Gospel) versus those who follow Christ because He died as an atonement for their sins (Paul's Gospel). What are the implications for both groups?
  • Should they consider each other brothers and sisters in Christ?
  • Do they have different eschatological fates?
  • Does God have different requirements for their day-to-day behavior?

Should they consider each other brothers and sisters in Christ?
Yes
Both groups interacted
Paul had fellow helpers from the remnant group
[Rom 16:7 KJV] 7 Salute Andronicus and Junia, my kinsmen, and my fellowprisoners, who are of note among the apostles, who also were in Christ before me.

Do they have different eschatological fates?
The remnant of Israel, the little flock, who believed Peter's preaching, will reign in the earthly kingdom
Those who believed Paul, the body of Christ, will be in heavenly places

Does God have different requirements for their day-to-day behavior?
The remnant of Israel had to keep the commandments of Christ which was the law to enter the kingdom on earth and reign with him

The body of Christ had to follow Paul and walk in the Spirit to fulfill the righteousness of the law by not causing harm to others
