It's not merely the word. To be clear, when I write that the trinity is not found anywhere in Scripture, I mean that neither the word nor the concept of the trinity is explicitly in the Bible. To avoid the inevitable Appeal to Strawman, there simply is no verse that reads something like The nature of God is a trinity - consisting of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit who are co-equal, co-substantial and co-eternal - and if you do not believe this, you cannot be saved but are damned to hell forever. If there were such a verse, it would be the most quoted verse in Scripture by those who claim one’s salvation depends on believing it. The concept of the trinity is so important that in 66 books, it is not mentioned once!
I wrote a 7-page piece chock full of not only Scripture but analysis of the topic, in addition to the ABC and 123's on this. To start off slow, please answer these 2 questions.
1. How do you reconcile the trinity, in general, and the claim that Jesus is God, in particular, with Jesus’ own explicit statements that he has a God (John 20:17, Revelation 3:12), and Jesus’ God is the only true God (John 17:3)?
2. What is Biblically more important:
A. 1 Timothy 1:17 (NLT) All honor and glory to God forever and ever! He (singular) is the eternal King, the unseen one (singular) who never dies; he (singular) alone (singular) is God. Amen. (emphasis added)
B. Divide glory, even among God’s servants (explicitly stated to include Jesus @ Acts 3:13)?
Many people cannot see spiritual Truth, especially when their religion tells them not to believe the Truth.
The Foundation of the Truth that declares God being Plural begins in Genesis with the word Elohim that denotes God.
Elohim is
always Plural and literally means gods.
In the beginning
בְּרֵאשִׁ֖ית (
bə·rê·šîṯ)
Preposition-b | Noun - feminine singular
Strong's Hebrew 7225: 1) first, beginning, best, chief 1a) beginning 1b) first 1c) chief 1d) choice part
God
אֱלֹהִ֑ים (’ĕ·lō·hîm)
Noun - masculine plural
Strong's Hebrew 430: 1)
(plural) 1a) rulers, judges 1b) divine ones 1c) angels 1d) gods 2) (plural intensive-singular meaning) 2a) god, goddess 2b) godlike one 2c) works or special possessions of God 2d) the (true) God 2e) God
The Foundation that God/Elohim(Plural) is THREE also begins in Genesis = "Let
Us make man in
Our image according to
Our likeness"
The irrefutable proof that Elohim is THREE is in the OT Prophets, Gospel, the Apostles writings and Revelation.
We are given a clear picture of the THREE in the Gospel = Matthew 3:16-17
Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan to be baptized by him.
And John
tried to prevent Him, saying, “I need to be baptized by You, and are You coming to me?”
But Jesus answered and said to him, “Permit
it to be so now, for thus it is fitting for us to fulfill all righteousness.” Then he allowed Him.
When He had been baptized,
Jesus came up immediately from the water; and behold,
the heavens were opened to Him,
and He saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting upon Him.
And suddenly a
voice came from Heaven, saying, “This is
My beloved Son, in whom
I am well pleased.”
THREE Individuals =
JESUS,
Spirit of God(Holy Spirt), the
FATHER's
Voice from Heaven
All Truth comes from the Father, the Word/Jesus and the Holy Spirit = 3
