Charles Russell and JWs prophesies:
1. He said "Jehovah the God of the true prophets will put all fake prophets to shame either by not fulfilling the false prediction of such self assuming prophets, or by having his own prophesies fulfilled in a way opposite to that predicted by the false prophets. False prophets will try to hide their reason for feeling shame by denying who they really are.” The title of this article is “Paradise restored to mankind by theocracy.” It’s in their publication 1972’ page 353-354.
We're talking about Russell, not the JW's. This is a JW book.
2. The millennium will begin at 1872. “In this chapter we present the Bible evidence which indicate that 6000 years from the creation of Adam were complete with A.D. 1872, and hence that since 1872 A.D., we chronologically entered upon the 7 thousandth or the millennium the fore part of which the day of the Lord, the day of trouble is to witness the breaking into pieces of the kingdoms of this world and establishment of the kingdom of God under the whole Heavens.” Found in their book “Thy Kingdom Come” 1905; page 127.
This is not a prediction, this is chronology. He isn't saying "THE millennium" started in 1872. but that "Bible Chronology points to October 1872 as the beginning of the seventh thousand years, or Millennium."
3. Christ second coming will occur in 1874. “The second coming of the Lord therefore began in 1874 and that date and the year 1914-1918 are specially marked dates with reference to His coming.” This is found in their book “Creation” 1927; page 310.
That book was written by J.F. Rutherford
4. The kingdom of God established in 1914. “In view of this string bible evidence concerning the times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth, that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the kingdom of God will be accomplished at the end of A.D. 1914.” This is found in their studies of the scripture vol 2, title is “The time is at hand.” The 1889 and 1909 edition; page 99.
5. This is same with point 4 above. The only difference is that they changed the date from 1914 to 1915. Studies of the scriptures vol 2 “The time is at hand.” Reprint of the 1915 edition, page 99.
Yes, in his last edition before he died he changed it to 1915.
"In view of this strong Bible evidence concerning the Times of the Gentiles, we consider it an established truth that the final end of the kingdoms of this world, and the full establishment of the Kingdom of God, will be accomplished near the end of A.D. 1915."
That of course did not pan out the way he believed. In the 1916 FOREWORDS, his last edition, he would write on pages iii and iv
This Volume sets forth, what its author has been preaching for over forty years, that the "Times of the Gentiles" chronologically ended in the fall of A.D. 1914. The expression, "Times of the Gentiles," in Bible usage signifies the years, or period of time, in which the Gentile nations of the world were to be permitted to have control, following the taking away of the typical kingdom from natural Israel, and filling the hiatus between that event and the establishment of God's Kingdom in the hands of Messiah – "whose right it is."
Ezekiel 21:27
We could not, of course, know in 1889, whether the date 1914, so clearly marked in the Bible as the end of the Gentile lease of power or permission to rule the world, would mean that they would be fully out of power at that time, or whether, their lease expiring, their eviction would begin. The latter we perceive to be the Lord's program; and promptly in August, 1914, the Gentile kingdoms referred to in the prophecy began the present great struggle, which, according to the Bible, will culminate in the complete overthrow of all human government, opening the way for the full establishment of the Kingdom of God's dear Son.
We are not able to see behind the veil; we are not able to know the things progressing under the direction of our glorious Lord and the members of His Church already glorified. Our thought is that somehow the Lord is taking a hand in the affairs of the world now as He did not do in times past.
Now notice what he states below:
The author acknowledges that in this book he presents the thought that the Lord's saints might expect to be with Him in glory at the ending of the Gentile Times. This was a natural mistake to fall into, but the Lord overruled it for the blessing of His people. The thought that the Church would all be gathered to glory before October, 1914, certainly did have a very stimulating and sanctifying effect upon thousands, all of whom accordingly can praise the Lord – even for the mistake. Many, indeed, can express themselves as being thankful to the Lord that the culmination of the Church's hopes was not reached at the time we expected; and that we, as the Lord's people, have further opportunities of perfecting holiness and of being participators with our Master in the further presentation of His Message to His people.
Our mistake was evidently not in respect to the ending of the Times of the Gentiles; we drew a false conclusion, however, not authorized by the Word of the Lord. We saw in the Bible certain parallels between the Jewish Age and the Gospel Age. We should have noted that these parallels follow the nominal systems to destruction in both cases, and do not indicate the time of the glorification of the New Creation.
He doesn't deny he said it, or try to weasel his way out of it. He admits to it, unlike the Society of today who deny they said something and or blame it on some over zealous Witnesses
6. Churches destroyed, end of the times of the Gentiles 1918. “However suddenly there came an end to World War One. It did not lead on as bible students expected into world revolution and anarchy or the battle of Armageddon, and the sincere worshipers of Jehovah who were in the new covenant with Him through His mediator Jesus Christ found themselves still in the flesh on the Earth.” They were expecting Him to come at that time. Title “Man’s salvation out of world distress at hand” 1975; page 98.
That was a Witness publication, not Russell's.
7. “And the mountains were not found, even the republics will disappear in the fall of 1920, and the mountains were not found, every kingdom of earth will pass away, be swallowed up in anarchy.” This is found in studies of the scriptures vol 7 “The finished mystery” 1917 edition; page 258.
This was not written by Russell despite its claims that it was. The Revelation portion was written by Clayton Woodworth.
8. “Therefore we may confidently expect that 1925 will mark the return of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and the faithful prophets of the old. There will be no SLIP-UP. Abraham should enter upon the possession of his promised inheritance in the year 1925.” Title is “millions now living will never die” 1918; page 89. Its also found in their watchtower magazine Oct 15, 1917.
Rutherford wrote
Millions.
9. “At San Diego California, there is a small piece of land on which in the year 1929 there was built a house which is called and known as BETH SARIM. The Hebrew word BETH SARIM means house of the princes, and the purpose of acquiring that property and building the house was that there might be some tangible, that there are those on earth today who fully believed that the faithful men of old will soon be resurrected by the Lord, and be back on earth, and take charge of the visible affairs of earth. The occupation of the house by the princes was to be a confirmation of the faith and hope that induce the building BETH SARIM.” Found in their magazine titled “salvation” 1939, page 311 and 312. Maybe the JWs should go to San Diego and look at the house and see for themselves that their organization is wrong, and Charles Russell is a false prophet, and so is his predecessors. The building is still there.
Russell had nothing to do with Beth Sarim, that was Rutherford.
10. They have preached that in an early time God will overthrow Christendom. Many had emphasized the year 1925 as the date, and then when that date did not materialized, the date was moved up to 1932. Again 1932 came, and Christendom was not destroyed. This is found in their magazine Feb 15, 1938; page 54.
11. The millennium to began at 1975. “According to the trustworthy bible chronology, 6000 years from man’s creation will end in 1975, and the seventh period of a thousand years of human history will begin in the fall of 1975 common era." title - “life everlasting in freedom of the sons of God.” 1966 page 29.
Again, don't confuse Russell with the Witnesses.
It's always good to go straight to the source, instead of what some website states. I always go to the actual source, I need to prove it to myself before I tell someone, "they said this and that"
