Do you believe that the world is overpopulated?

I don't think the world is overpopulated. Most people are herded into cities and yet there are vast areas of undeveloped land that is available. Take for instance the United States. Millions and millions of some of the best land has been seized by the government and made into "National Parks", yet no one can live there. So, nations have a choice, release some of the land or let your cities become more and more crowded.

When nations put millions of acres of land "off limits", it creates the illusion that the world is overpopulated.

Which resources are lacking?

Also what would be a reliable method to control population then?

Open up more "protected lands" for farming, then. Governor Brown of California's father was also Governor and he had dams built and water conservation projects that brough a lot of water to California. But then his son, the current Governor bowed to the Sierra Club and other Environmental groups and had the Dams and other water projects destroyed. Now, California has a water shortage problem.

We need common sense and wisdom, not cronyism and greed.

China tried to controlling the population with their 1 child policy and now they have 100 million more men than women. It is a crisis over there with young men, military age who cannot find a mate.

There is no overpopulation on the planet. We're not even close to the maximum we can handle.

We could easily go to ten billion and not even feel it.

And with advances in technology we can still add more.

The issue is not in the numbers, rather distribution. Too many people remain in the places of their forebearers due to tradition and not logic.

It is this rigid insistence that leads to over crowding. And there is plenty of space even without governments opening up land.

Its been said that 7 billion people have lived and died. Another 7 billion are alive today. I don't think its over populated now, just too crowded, but if God intends to save everybody, then we'll have nearly 15 billion living on the new earth in the hereafter. That to me would mean that you couldn't turn around without bumping into someone else. :).

I think the very rich in this world who control things by and large are worried about too many people rising up against them and their armies because with the availability of knowledge today, people are not in the dark anymore about how they are controlled and manipulated. There is enough water for everyone on the planet, it is the cost that is the issue and that is due to distribution of wealth issues.
Africa alone could feed the entire world in farmland.
Again Africa is fine for farm land alone. And there still other areas as well fine.
Droughts are only an issue on temporary timetables and in areas that are prone to them.
Africa has no issue with desertification of farm land, and now in desert areas we are growing crops due to modification for brackish water and sandy conditions.
Cities are only overcrowded due to human tradition to remain in their ancestral areas.
The incidents of plague has been reduced dramatically thanks to advances in medicine and hygiene.
GMO is the saving grace of mankind and further manipulation at the molecular level is coming soon to create food in labs and modified crops and animals that will be better and more resistant to disease and weather.

All of your arguments, like that of Thomas Robert Malthus in his time, is based solely on outdated models of farming and animal husbandry and will further be expended with the coming of molecular creation technology.

Nearly all of your data is between 10 and 25 years old. And we have changed greatly since then. Advances in medicine, farming, crop production, water reclaimation and combating desertification are all taking places since 2010. The world is in full swing to allieviate the old fears of overpopulation which have been mythologocally spread since the time of Malthus.

Right now, we are experiencing loss of arable land and overpopulation in cities (where people live) and all the hope for the future cannot bring them relief. We are also experiencing an increase in drought - perhaps the middle of the U.S. hasn't experienced an increase in drought in 60 years, but in the last two hundred years the middle of the country has become much drier.

Finally, your link regarding the Plague is specifically concerning the Bubonic Plague - my statement concerns plagues in general, which are on the rise and at risk of going pandemic.

We have not had a pandemic since the last century. Nearly 100 years. Before then we were having them once every 25-60 years with the worst being the black death.

And no it is not idealistic, these programs are on the ground and working now for over five years. Overpopulation is a myth. It is merely overcrowding that can be taken care of with a little expansionism.

The trouble with that is convincing people to move from tradition areas they have dwelt in for over 4000 years to go. This is where incentives come into play and another reason why we need a one world government to institute them.
