Would wait to post anything here unless the Lord wants me to. Your request is confirmation for my blog the one I was going to write about young mom, 3 yr old child in hospital. Won't put it on this thread but know that the Lord just used you for confirmation to even write about it.

Peter was a disciple told to feed Jesus' sheep.
In this case, the disciple is the leader and the sheep are followers. (being cared for)

John 21:15-17 NIV
When they had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter,
“Simon son of John, do you love me more than these?”
“Yes, Lord,” he said, “you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my lambs.”
16 Again Jesus said, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
He answered, “Yes, Lord, you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Take care of my sheep.”
17 The third time he said to him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?”
Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time, “Do you love me?”
He said, “Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you.”
Jesus said, “Feed my sheep.

Thanks SteVen for posting those scriptures, the interesting thing was I was give word searches and this verse about Peter came up in both word searches hahaha So do you think sheep are common people yet are to be a witness for the Lord acknowledging Him when asked with this verse?
1 Peter 3:15 (KJV) But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

So direction for sheep?

I stand by my original reply in post #13. But I could flesh it out a bit more. I'll try.

"I suppose sheep and disciples are synonymous. Jesus is the shepherd, sheep follow the shepherd. Disciples follow Jesus.
What does it mean to follow Jesus? Different things to different people, I suppose."

In the passage I shared about Jesus and Peter, we know that Peter was a disciple.
We know that disciples are followers. Jesus told Peter to feed his sheep. We know that sheep are followers.
Sheep follow the shepherd. But this is where things break down a bit. (I just had a revelation)

It hadn't occurred to me before, but sheep, that is, physical/animal sheep, do NOT need to be fed!
The Shepherd leads them to pasture where the graze and essentially feed themselves.

So, what was Jesus asking Peter to do? Feed his sheep? Say what?
Disciples, on the other hand, need feeding. The common person in those days did not have a Bible.
The King James Bible was not available until 1611 AD.

Even Jesus didn't have a Bible. (obviously) He went to the synagogue to read the OT scrolls.
So, how were disciples fed? The leader spoke the words of God to them.

Peter's sermon in Acts chapter 2 is a masterpiece.

Sorry, I'm rambling now. I'll get to the point. I needed to record that insight before it got away.

We know that:
- disciples are followers.
- sheep are followers.
- sheep don't need to be fed.
- disciples need to be fed.
- a full-grown disciple feeds the sheep.

Therefore: A mature disciple is one who feeds the sheep.

Yes, they are grazing animals.

Psalm 23:1-3a NIV
The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he refreshes my soul. ...

It just occurred to me what the difference between a disciple and sheep might be.

Sheep = passive follower
Disciple = active follower

- A sheep follows the other sheep who follow the shepherd.
- A disciple is not dependent on the other sheep to follow, only the shepherd.
- If the sheep go the wrong way, the disciple knows well enough not to follow.

What does that say about the church today?
The Great Commission is not to go into all the world and make sheep.

Went over this thread post again... anyway am learning about ancient bible times re sheep herding. Found a pretty cool site going over it with scripture them mention in the notes. I still think it interesting Moses became a sheep herder shepherd? for how many years, must have been many years there he had 2 sons. Typically it is done by youngest sons etc. anyway back to reading found out the fat of the tail of their sheep are most sought after.

What would you tell a New Christian as to where to start and what the goal is?
The goal of disciple?

Matthew 16:24 (KJV) Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

The goal of a sheep with the Lord as only shepherd to personally hear Him?

John 10:27 (KJV) My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me:

Is there a difference between being a sheep and being a disciple?
What means: disciple? vs being a sheep?
Do sheep have eternal life? or do you have to be a disciple?
Starting Point for a New Christian
For a new Christian, it's essential to understand the basics of the faith and begin their journey with foundational practices:

Scripture Reading: Begin with the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John) to understand the life and teachings of Jesus. The Gospel of John is often recommended for new believers due to its emphasis on who Jesus is and the nature of faith.

Prayer: Establish a habit of regular prayer, communicating with God, and developing a personal relationship with Him.

Community: Join a local church or a Christian fellowship group to grow in faith alongside other believers, receiving support, guidance, and teaching.

Baptism: If not already baptized, seek baptism as an outward sign of the inward change that has taken place through faith in Jesus Christ.

The Goal of a Disciple
In Matthew 16:24 (KJV), Jesus outlines the essence of discipleship: "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." The goal of a disciple is to follow Jesus, which involves:

Self-Denial: Putting aside personal desires and ambitions to align with God's will.
Taking Up the Cross: Embracing the challenges, sacrifices, and suffering that may come with following Christ.
Following Jesus: Obeying His teachings, imitating His example, and committing to His mission.
The Goal of a Sheep
John 10:27 (KJV) states: "My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." The goal of a sheep is to:

Hear His Voice: Recognize and listen to the guidance of Jesus, the Good Shepherd.
Be Known by Him: Have a personal relationship with Jesus, marked by intimacy and trust.
Follow Him: Obey and follow His leading in daily life.
Difference Between Being a Sheep and Being a Disciple
Similarities:
Relationship with Jesus: Both sheep and disciples have a relationship with Jesus, characterized by listening to His voice and following Him.
Obedience: Both roles involve following Jesus' teachings and guidance.
Differences:
Nature of Commitment:

Sheep: Represents a more general relationship with Jesus, emphasizing trust, guidance, and care.
Disciple: Implies a deeper level of commitment, involving active learning, self-denial, carrying one's cross, and participating in Jesus' mission.
Role and Responsibility:

Sheep: Focus on being led and cared for by the Shepherd.
Disciple: Focus on actively following Jesus, learning from Him, and engaging in His mission.
Eternal Life: Sheep vs. Disciple
Sheep and Eternal Life:
John 10:28 (KJV) assures, "And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." This indicates that those who are Jesus' sheep have eternal life, underscoring the security and assurance of salvation for those who trust in Him.

Disciples and Eternal Life:
The path of discipleship also leads to eternal life. In John 8:31-32 (KJV), Jesus says, "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Continuing in Jesus' word, a mark of true discipleship, leads to freedom and life.

Conclusion
Where to Start: Begin with reading the Gospels, establishing a prayer life, joining a Christian community, and considering baptism.

Goal of a Disciple: To deny oneself, take up the cross, and follow Jesus.

Goal of a Sheep: To hear Jesus' voice, be known by Him, and follow Him.

Difference: Being a sheep emphasizes trust and guidance, while being a disciple involves active learning, commitment, and participation in Jesus' mission.

Eternal Life: Both sheep and disciples have the promise of eternal life through their relationship with Jesus. Belief in Jesus as the Good Shepherd and following Him in faith guarantees eternal security.

For a new Christian, understanding these roles can help frame their journey of faith, encouraging them to grow in their relationship with Jesus and embrace both the trust and commitment that come with being His follower.

Just my opinion.

If you look at the ten commandments the most serious sins are dishonouring God and all crimes against other human beings even the smallest.Jesus sums up what he wants from you with his two commandments honour God and treat others how you wish to be treated if your not then you are not following Jesus. If you have victimized others you have sinned gravely and are in need of forgiveness.

This is truth but let me ask you, are humans able to love the Lord with all their heart, soul and mind? I ask Father to help me with that as I don't think humans truly understand this and need help asking!! Just as the man asked Jesus to help thou mine unbelief and Jesus did that for him and healed his son.
