Jesus said in John 8:32-36 and 1 John 3:4-9 that He would take away our sin. And He does.

Jesus also said to "Be perfect, as My Father in heaven is perfect." But most scoff and say, that doesn't mean in this lifetime. Why? Their own experience.

But some have not experienced this life changing event called the baptism of the Holy Spirit which is what makes us born again, and they see no change in themselves. So instead of examining themselves, and seeing their weakness of nature, and ask Jesus to take away that evil, weak nature, they don't believe what Jesus said, and twist His words to match their own experience.

So what is it going to be. Jesus, or your experience? The time is short, so get to the bottom of this eternal question. We all better work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. It is obvious to me that many church fathers twisted the truth to match their own experience, but they are just men. I believe Jesus.

This is about love, and caring for the wellbeing of others. I think this is one of the more frequently misunderstood passages in the Bible.

Matthew 5:43-48 KJV
43) Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44) But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45) That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46) For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
47) And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?
48) Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Perfect can also be translated complete, mature, consumate.

Be ye therefore perfect, therefore is there for to show us what Jesus is talking about, loving others, not just those who love you, as demonstrated by your caring for their needs, wicked and righteous alike.

Much love!

The Bible shows us. 2 Peter 1:5-7 through to 11. And you are right, it is about love, but not only love, but the maturing of all the fruit of the Spirit.

It's about matching the Father in our care for others, that we not be choosy about who we help according to how we feel about them. To put our emotional affections aside, and live our faith in our expression of love for others, in particular, those whom we do not like.

I personally find such a richness to this passage, and I much like to just go with what it's saying there. Otherwise I feel that we diminish what Jesus was communicating to us.

This is not a passage admonishing us to moral excellence, it's a passage admonishing us to universal love.

Much love!

Of course it is admonishing us to moral excellence! You think God would accept anything less? Don't you know that without holiness, no man shall see God? Do you think you can truly love without morals?

Matthew 5:43-48 LITV
43) You have heard that it was said, "You shall love your neighbor" and hate your enemy; Lev. 19:18
44) but I say to you, Love your enemies; bless those cursing you, do well to those hating you; and pray for those abusing and persecuting you,
45) so that you may become sons of your Father in Heaven. Because He causes the sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and unjust.
46) For if you love those loving you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax-collectors do the same?
47) And if you only greet your brothers, what exceptional thing do you do? Do not the tax-collectors do so?
48) Therefore, you be perfect even as your Father in Heaven is perfect.

This has nothing to do what what I may think about God's standards of acceptance. We have many places in the Bible that speak about that.

This has nothing to do with my knowledge or ignorance of God's requirement for holiness. And again we have many places in the Bible for that.

The passage you've pointed to is a one of the places in the Bible that speaks of loving others like God does, without regard towards whether they love you too. Let it speak to that.

Much love!

It is almost frightening that you think God's level of acceptance is so low. No wonder Jesus will say to many, "I never knew you."

Yay, so does mine. But when it doesn't that is what this post is about. What does one do?

One almost always goes against what Jesus said. Take ‘speak the truth in love.’ I am way more proficient in speaking the truth in anger. LOL

In theory people will say otherwise but actual practice is different from theory.

Let’s take another example. Jesus said to love your enemies. I’m more inclined to kill my enemies and often I do not even pretend to do it out of love.

A 3rd example is giving more than I can afford as the Widow’s Mite. No financial advisor will recommend living (and giving) above your means.

An Eastern Orthodox pointed out the Lord did not even have a pillow for his head. I doubt anyone actually practiced just these 4 teachings of Christ.

Yes. You've been infected with the negative aspects of some false teachings, but won't do anything about it.
You're still doing it . . . I don't think it's the Spirit.

It's like when someone gives you a word of knowledge, but you know they are wrong. Has that ever happened to you before?

You act like I've got some "low view of God's acceptence", what, praytell, is that view, in your own words? Do you really understand what I think?

I'd love to clarify that if you want. Because it seems like you don't quite know what it is I think on this.

Much love!

OK. I wanted to check in . . .

Much love!

At one time I thought I knew you, but then you agreed with someone who was completely engulfed in a doctrine of demons, so I asked you about it many times to confirm what you believe. Over and over you couldn't see that only the words of JESUS are truth, not these false doctrines from the Reformation but not before.

Yes she doesn’t not see the forest through the trees. All she can see is sinlessness.

Maybe all the demonic doctrines come from you and not us. Things that make you go hmmm. Like the Pharisees you concern yourself with the sins of others instead of looking at yourself and judging your own life rather than judging others.

hope this helps !!!

Forget about the Reformation, that's your straw man. I'm not discussing reformation, I'm discussing the Bible.

And you are discussing me, and falsely.

Over and over you couldn't see that only the words of JESUS are truth,

Seriously?

All the Words of Scripture are true. They are all the Word of God, Jesus Christ. All of them.

Including that you are saved to the uttermost BECAUSE Jesus "ever lives" to make intercession. Why would that be do you suppose?

Much love!

Do you believe in Jesus or your experience?

To this question would say do believe in Jesus and over the course of my experiences Jesus Christ the Son of God by the spirit of Christ in me along side the Holy Spirit of God in me, because of Faith my life had completely changed.

Thank you,
Matthew G.

@MatthewG What the Word says about the Lord Jesus and His work at the Cross, and one's experience in faith, should tie together...
