Hi there,
Ok, so I had a personal experience where I said something - if you can call it me speaking (I didn't know what I was saying) - and it gave the Devil the upper hand in my life. I tried for years to get rid of him, put him and what I had said out of my mind, and it didn't work (not completely). I kept returning to the fact that "I had said it" (which the Devil suspected). I did everything I could to recontextualize it, change house (mentally), you name it. But I was stuck.
It wasn't until I asserted my innocence, by questioning that it meant what I thought it might and then changing house (mentally), to a greater degree. The point here is exactly what I am trying to make: sometimes all you can do is question what you have said. If the Devil hears that you question it and you remain firm in God, he has no choice but to go into denial. If the Devil is in denial, then you can overtake him in the spirit and imprison him. This is the power of humility. As long as your humility is God-given you will overcome.
Ok, so I said this thing and then learned to question it, then I overcame the Devil - now what I am doing is building my house on proper foundation. The thing that tempted me to open up to those words (which I will save you from hearing) I now keep at a distance and I don't allow it, to question my sanity (which is basically why I spiralled out of control, I couldn't retain my sanity). I also notice I tend to use fewer words, when I am describing something (so perhaps I am a little wiser for the experience?).
What I am saying to you is twofold: one, Jesus was right when He said "you will give account of every idle word you speak"; two, "every man has the ability to question anything that would get in the way of his relationship to God". If you have sinned (and I honestly believed I was innocent, despite what my mouth was saying) just remember you have an advocate with the Father, in Christ Jesus. Jesus is not saying what he said about idle words because he wants to trap you, He is telling you "watch out! [You may find giving an account of your words harder than you think]" (my inclusion). This is what the Bible is about when it says "pray always that you be able to escape and to stand before the Son of Man".
If you don't pray and you are making friends with the world, God help you, but you are making life very hard, for you and all those around you!
I hope you find this of some encouragement.
God bless.
