But she that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth.
Matthew 8:22
But Jesus said unto him, Follow me; and let the deadbury their dead.
Luke 9:60
Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.
Revelation 3:1
And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Ephesians 2:1
And you hath he quickened, who were dead intrespasses and sins;
Ephesians 2:5
Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;)
When Christ died, all the sons of Adam were dead in trespasses and sins. The wages of sin is death - the death of the body. Christ took on a human body while we were dead in trespasses and sins, took our sins upon Himself, died and rose again. Because we have been born of God, His Spirit dwells in us (for those who have indeed been born of God) and the Spirit that quickened Christ's dead body will quicken our dead and mortal bodies.
And to the angel of the church in Sardis write: He who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars says these things. I know your works, that you have a name that you are alive in the body (zao), and are dead. Reveation 3:1
"If Christ's Spirit is in you,
(1) your body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit (of Christ) is your (eternal) life [zoe] because of (Christ's) righteousness.
(2) Moreover, if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will also quicken [zōopoiéō] your mortal bodies through his Spirit who lives in you.".
2 Be watchful and strengthen the things which remain, that are ready to die. For I have not found your works being fulfilled before God.
3 Remember then how you have received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you.
It's a statement that torpedos the "once saved always saved" theology, because Jesus was speaking to a church that was once alive in Christ but was ready to die.
"If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered. And they gather and cast them into the fire, and they are burned." -- John 15:6
