Many Christians would love to prove a disembodied soul but sadly they can not. You can try if you like - happy to see your evidence but I know its futile.
First of all, we are body, soul and spirit. ( 1 Thes. 5:23.) God made us in His image, having the soul and spirit parts. The soul is the mind, will, emotions, the personality, talents you may have, the invisible you. The spirit is the part of you that communes with God (that is dead at birth but comes to life when we are born again). Soul and spirit are highly integrated but are not exactly the same since they can be divided. "
The Word of God is sharper than a two-edged sword ...", enters into, penetrates and divides soul and spirit. So when we die we go directly to God. "
To be absent the body is to be present with the Lord"! This is the salvation and reality of the believer. But since the Word of God does not enter into and divide the unbelievers soul and spirit and therefore does not transform it, it remains the fleshy soul. When tje unbeliever dies, he/she goes to Hades, which is much deeper than six feet btw. They are conscious, in torment, in darkness as the Rich Man in Luke 16 (which is not a Parable btw).
God says about Himself, "My soul is well pleased ...", but His soul is Holy, ours is not. We are being made holy, but still possess the flesh.
Soul ( psuche) Mind, Will, Emotions, Personality (range of habits), talents, the invisible you.
Spirit (pneuma) = The New Eternal you which takes all that is good of you -- Your God Consciousness. As the mind is highly integrated with the brain, our spirit is our purified self. We are born with a dead spirit or spiritual compartment if your will. We can think of this as a God compartment within us that is empty, like a cell phone without a battery. Then we are born again, and God dwells in this place.
Man is spirituallydesigned like the Old Testament Temple. It was a physical template, divided into different sections, it had a Most Holy Place (the Holy of Holies), where God dwelled, behind the veil. Only the High Priest (without sin for one week) could enter. It was where the Ark of the Covenant was as well. When our High Priest (Jesus) enters our hearts (the Temple), He enters into the Courtyard, then into the Holy Place and then lifts the veil of the Most Holy Place so we can see ourselves and the world and have communion with Him.
The Most Holy Place is our spirit, where God dwells - In Christ.
The WORD (sharper than a two-edged sword) goes in and divides the soul and spirit.
The Holy Place represents our soul.
The spirit and soul are the heart of man. It is highly integrated, yet separate - part of us is pure and the other part not. When we die our pure spirit moves on leaving the flesh behind.
The Courtyard represents our body. Our soul and body (the flesh) is where sin dwells.
The Table of Showbread contained the bread and wine that represents our fellowship (communion) with God.
The Lampstand was always lit in the Old Temple. Since Jesus is the Light, we are now able to see spiritually.
The Bronze Laver was used for cleansing before entering the tabernacle to perform sacrifices. It represents the cleansing of the new believer, the baptism by water and our willingness to receive forgiveness and spiritual cleansing.
And be not afraid of those killing the body, and are not able to kill the soul, but fear rather Him who is able both soul and body to destroy in gehenna." Matt.10:28
Here we have a distinction between body and soul. I like what CS Lewis said, "We are a living soul, we have a body." What is a living soul. A plant or tree is not a living soul. It does not have consciousness, a mind, emotions, will, personality.
I'm a Disciple of the Lord who endeavors to rightly divide the Word of Truth.
You are a Non-Trinitarian. Maybe a Unitarian? I have the same problem communicating with them as I do the JW's, so to me you are in the same boat. It's like a little dingy being pulled by our Cruise ship. We can shout things down to you, but you can't quite hear them. But the Lord is merciful with the 2-3% of your ilk, cuddling you along, separate from the rest so as not to corrupt us with your unorthodox doctrines and beliefs.
One last question: Is Jesus God, the Creator, or do you also believe _ like the JW's and Unitarians that He is a created being, an angel?
As far as Sheol being much deeper than six feet, I have a teaching on that. I could share it with you, but likely you won't receive the message.
So just answer that one question about Jesus. Who Jesus is, has a lot to do with your relationship with Him. If you think He is an angel, a created being, you would not worship Him, as angels are not to be worshipped. Yet, every knee will bow to Him.
