We have a primary orientation to self.
For me, that USED to be true... than, I got born again and became a New Creature in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) and now I have a primary orientation to the Lord Jesus!
Call it a sin nature
No thank you.
The self (ish) nature never has enough; it is a bottomless abyss and leaves its inhabitants destitute....and hopeless.
I sure hope you get born again one day and escape the corruption that is in the world thru lust thru the Lord's exceeding great and precious promises (2 Peter 1:4)
The identity of Romans 7 guy has been a subject of controversy ever since the Reformation
And of course the reformation guys got it all wrong as usual.
They failed to go back to the whole counsel of God so they didn't reform anything actually.... they just brought forth more false doctrine that was different from catholic false doctrine along with the claim that they were superior to catholics.
Paul is talking about himself in his current state.
That's their problem... Paul did not live a life of a sinner! The devil does desire to paint Pail in that light in order to trick Christians to think it's all good if they live in the flesh and do some sin. It's the devil that teaches we arell born sinners and cannot help but since everyday in thought word and deed! The devil benefits from this message!
No, Paul did what the New Testament teaches...
Colossians 3:5-9
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:
For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
In the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them.
But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth.
Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;
And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
Ephesians 4:24
And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
Romans 13:14
But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof.
Hebrews 9:14
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
Romans 6:4-6
Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.
Colossians 3:5,6
Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things' sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:
As these scripture references indicate, those not accepting the calling of the Lord to be led by the Holy Ghost into walking after the new man are in disobedience... which will NOT end well for those thinking they sin everyday unless they repent of their sin and get with the Lord's game plan!
For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing. (Romans 7:19)
This is a person that does not have the Holy Spirit in them and is not being led by the Holy Spirit.
The Holy Spirit brings the fruit of the Spirit one of which is SELF CONTROL (Galatians 5:22-23) and only those led by the Holy Spirit are the sons of God (Romans 8:14)
satan is the purveyor of this message that Paul lived in sin... and was a dirty sinner who rejected the Lord and lived after the flesh... all while writing most of the New Testament. It's ludicrous and is another gospel and a fake jesus!
And for those who think that they're perfect now
I dropped my fork at dinner the other night so they proves I'm not perfect in the literal since.
That does NOT mean I don't have the self control of the Holy Spirit within to do the good that IO kn ow I should be doing... such as not getting drunk at dinner, or lusting after women on TV, not t6eaching the wisdom of men as though it were the wisdom of God, etc, etc.
In John 3:36 we read "He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him."
That's a good Word!
It's also why some falsely claim Jesus' teachings were to the Jews and Christians are supposed to follow Paul
Luke 16:16
The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
I'm sad that so many Christians do not seem to know how to read a Bible. They quote verses out of context day in and day out. I'm beginning to think this kind of deception is done on purpose.
It is being done on purpose... it's the devil that is teaching his viewpoint (opposition to God's Word) thru false teachers.
God's Word warns us of false teachers and false teachings!
Matthew 24:4,5
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.
For many shall come in My Name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.
*Many includes those claiming "I am anointed" that are deceiving many (false teachers)
1 Timothy 4:1,2
Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;
Speaking lies in hypocrisy; having their conscience seared with a hot iron
("depart from the faith" is not referring to sinners in the world who never came to faith in the first place)
1 Timothy 6:3-5 (see Luke 11:23 and 2 Peter 3:2)
If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness (holiness); (Doctrine of Christ, aka Doctrine of the Apostles)
He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof comes envy, strife, railings, evil thoughts… Perverse disputings of men of corrupt minds, and destitute of the truth, supposing that gain is godliness: from such withdraw thyself.
2 Timothy 4:3,4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine (teaching); but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
2 Peter 2:1-3
But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying (contradicting, Not agreeing with) the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction.
And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.
And through covetousness (idolatry) shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingers not, and their damnation slumbers not.
Jude 1:4
For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness (no self control, living after the flesh), and denying (contradicting, opposing Jesus’ teachings) the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. (referring to false teachers and false brethren - see Matthew 13:24-30)
(Deny = Strong's G0720… to contradict, disavow, reject, deny, refuse - and Strong's G4483… the idea of pouring forth, to utter, speak of or say, command)
Jude 1:17-21
Remember the words which were spoken before of the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ;
How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.
These are those who separate themselves, sensual, having not the Spirit.
But you, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost,
Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
("those who separate themselves" is not referring to sinners in the world who were never joined unto the Lord in the first place)
