I should also say this: When we help others and honor God, and when we get to know God and how loving he is, we grow in love for God and for others. We grow to love someone as we serve them. And we become more inline with the Spirit of God and obey the Royal Law to love God and love others. That is how we become the spiritual man that the bible spells out will be saved.

The bible has also spelled out works for us to follow so that we are not condemned. And sins to avoid that may condemn us.
the penalty of sin is death.

James said if we keep the whole law, yet stumble in the least.. we are guilty of the whole law

all it takes is one sin. One thing to remember, is all sin is rooted in pride. so before we even commit the act. we have sinned. we have chosen to chose self over God or others..

also remember, Adam ate a fruit. and the fall of mankind occured in that one basic apparently small sin

Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

Your words are false.

Not if done by grace through faith of Jesus.
your stuck on james, who was calling people out for a CLAIMED faith only..

You need to stop focusing on your pet passage and read the whole of the word. james did not contradict paul
True. To become His sons justified from sinning by doing good.
thats not what the term justified mean, the term is a legal term, it means found innocent of wrong doing, Found to be righteous, or found to have paid your debt in full

We are justly delivered from God's condemnation, because we are saved from sinning. Being saved from wrath while not saved from sinning is the great hypocrisy of OSAS.
lol.. no. that is not what being saved means. We are saved from Gods wrath. or the condemnation of sin. I am seriously worried for you my friend

Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Yes, written to the jews. who thought they were righteous and did nto need Jesus because they obeyed the law. yet they judged the gentile

If you teach any man not being condemned for committing sin and sacrilege against God, then you must teach no man is condemned, else your judgement and doctrine is hypocrisy.
I don;t teach thatr, and have never said that. Now you bear false witness. I guess I am hitting a nerve. because thats what happens when people are backed to a corner and can not answer.
Exactly, which is why we cannot be saved by faith alone, because we cannot be justified by faith alone.

Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
yawn

romans 4:
4 What then shall we say that Abraham our father[a] has found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified by works, he has something to boast about, but not before God. 3 For what does the Scripture say? “Abraham believed God, and it was [b]accounted to him for righteousness.” 4 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt.

5 But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness, 6 just as David also describes the blessedness of the man to whom God imputes righteousness apart from works:
7 “Blessed are those whose lawless deeds are forgiven,
And whose sins are covered;
8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord shall not impute sin

Your self righteousness will be rejected from God. it will be counted as debt, not grace. because your work can not cause sin to bve forgiven, thats what jesus did on the cross.

You can chose to recieve him, or continue in your own folly of trying to be good thinking that will save you
You teach being saved by faith alone, before being justified by works, because you teach there is faith alone, before works.
God's faith is always with works of faith.

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

Only man's imaginary faith is alone.
I teach what is the truth

NO one will do ONE WORK. unless they first have faith

everyone has faith ALONE before they do a work.. otherwise. THEY WILL NOT do the work.
'Will work' in the future is faith alone without doing work now. Preaching faith without present works, is preaching faith alone now. You preach it, but don't want to say it.

And so now you do teach and say faith alone. Defending the indefensible is making you babble against yourself.

It's the confusion that comes from trying to justify ourselves and our false teaching, when confronted with Scripture of truth.

Semantics cannot rescue your preaching a false gospel of faith alone.

Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.

You contradict Scripture at every turn simply because you are teaching your own faith and mind and word alone, and have no care to be conformed to the written word of God.

But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.

OSAS is vain imagination of faith alone and babblings about words without truth. You show here your own tower of babel by denying you teach being saved by faith alone, and then teach being saved by faith alone.

We are accountable for our teaching, whether helping Christians to do good, or evil. Having dead faith alone to be saved without condemnation, while doing unrighteous works of the flesh, is false teaching, that only increases to more ungodliness, while justifying ourselves by our own imaginary faith alone.
Keep trying to save yourself. keep rejecting the promises of God. keep trying to replace the work of Christ with your own works.

I will pray for you

Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.....
James is not using the word "justified" here to mean "accounted as righteous" but is shown to be righteous. James is discussing the evidence of faith (says-claims to have faith but has no works/I will show you my faith by my works - James 2:14-18) and not the initial act of being accounted as righteous with God. (Romans 4:2-3) Works bear out the justification that already came by faith.

The Greek word for justified "dikaioo" #1344 is:

1. to render righteous or such he ought to be
2. to show, exhibit, evince, one to be righteous, such as he is and wishes himself to be considered
3. to declare, pronounce, one to be just, righteous, or such as he ought to be

Man is saved through faith and not by works (Romans 4:5-6; Ephesians 2:8,9; Titus 3:5; 2 Timothy 1:9); yet genuine faith is (evidenced) by works. (James 2:14-24).

*Christ saves us through faith based on the merits of His finished work of redemption "alone" and not based on the merits of our works.*

It is through faith "in Christ alone" (and not based on the merits of our works) that we are justified on account of Christ (Romans 3:24; 5:1; 5:9); yet the faith that justifies does not remain alone (unfruitful, barren) if it is genuine. (James 2:14-24) *Perfect Harmony*

Usually the easiest and simplest proof of doctrine of Christ, is the one most overlooked in Scripture, just staring us in the face the whole time:

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

It is impossible to be saved by faith alone, without doing the work of God in confessing the Lord Jesus.

The work of God that only He can do, is to sow His word of faith in our hearts by hearing, that we should believe Jesus is the Christ. The work of God that we can then do is to confess Jesus Christ.

Believing Jesus is the Christ is the work of God He does in our hearts by the gospel, and confessing Jesus is the Christ, is the work of God we do by faith from the heart.

Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost.

No man can say Jesus is Lord but by the Spirit, and no man is saved by the Spirit without saying Jesus is Lord. Faith alone is dead.

Speaking the word of faith is work, even as with God:

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Speaking is His work we are judged by, whether for the good or evil.

For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Confessing the Lord Jesus with our mouths is the first work of God we can and must do, because we are saved by it, and can only do so unto salvation by faith and love of God from the heart.

Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love. Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.

Christians learning not to confess and preach the Lord Jesus, is the sin of faith alone without the first works. We must repent and do the first works to renew our salvation by faith and confession with out mouth of Jesus Christ, even as at the first.

Confessing the Lord Jesus is the first work of God we must do by faith, because it is the first time we resist the devil who says He is cursed.

The unsaved cannot confess the Lord Jesus. Only those who do confess Jesus Christ with their mouth shall be saved. Faith alone confesses nothing, and is as dead as the soul is without the Spirit.

The apostle John said we can know we have eternal life..

You must KNOW this as well:

“We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.” (1 John 5:18)

THESE ARE THE ONES WHO KNOW THEY HAVE ETERNAL LIFE!

And what folks like @Eternally Grateful @mailmandan and @APAK (and their friends) do is that they let their pet verses stand without any explanations. But when it comes to the verse I just quoted, they will void them with their theological word games and then accuse me of “not understanding” and using the scriptures “out of context”.

Yes I do understand that. Jesus can save someone even without works. And that probably applies to certain people. I think he requires most people to provide good works though.

The works are after the fact of salvation by Grace.

Paul tells us with works for salvation, where is the Grace, it is no longer Grace.

The Judaizers will separate works to their perceived favor. They do this by making the works of the Law and the works of the Commandments of Christ a different type of work. They claim they are not trying to keep the Law, but are keeping the Commandments of Christ.

The bottom line is that works for salvation, whether Law or Commandment are cancelling out Grace. And there lies the problem, they don't understand the New Covenant of Grace. They must do something to earn that salvation, which is the opposite of Grace, and makes it void.

I often hear works-salvationists misinterpret Romans 10:9,10 in such a way that means we can believe unto righteousness today, but are still lost until we confess Christ, which may be next week and then we are finally saved next week, but that is not what Paul is talking about here. Also, someone who is moot (unable to speak) would remain lost according to that erroneous interpretation of Romans 10:9,10 for failing to verbally confess with their mouth.

Confessing with our mouth that Jesus is Lord and believing in our heart that God raised Him from the dead are not two separate steps to salvation, but are chronologically together. Romans 10:8 - But what does it say? "THE WORD IS NEAR YOU, in your mouth and in your heart" (TOGETHER) that is, the word of faith which we are preaching, (notice the reverse order from verse 9-10) - that if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Confess/believe; believe/confess.

1 Corinthians 12:13 - Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God calls Jesus accursed, and no one can say that Jesus is Lord except BY the Holy Spirit. There is divine influence or direct operation of the Holy Spirit in the heart of a person when confessing Jesus as Lord. This confession is not just a simple acknowledgment that Jesus is the Lord (even the demons believe that), but is a deep personal conviction that Jesus is that person's Lord and Savior. So simply believing in our head (and not in our heart) that God raised Him from the dead does not result in righteousness and simply giving "lip service" to the words "Jesus is Lord" not by the Holy Spirit is not unto salvation.

Jesus did say who he would save and who he would not though

he who believes is not condemned

he who does not believe is condemned already, because they have not believed.

The apostle John said we can know we have eternal life.. and it is this knowledge that empowers us to continue to believe.

Have you thought of these words?
We don't get to decide if we are saved. That's God's decision as I have pointed out since some that do good works are saved and some aren't. If you're saying that this action will save your soul, then how is that any different from what I've been telling you, that works are required if we want Jesus to save us thru his atonement. Your belief that you feel will save you is a work of the mind.

Hello Charlie.

Sounds like a set up more than a sincere question.

And they send unto him certain of the Pharisees and of the Herodians, to catch him in his words.

Yep, set up.

Not to be born of God, but to remain a born son of God.

And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; Add to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

Adding to our faith ensures our salvation by never falling, and in need of having our salvation renewed in us.

If we are not adding these good things to our faith and doing them, then nothing is sure about our salvation, other than a vain imagination of being saved by our faith alone.

Ministerial works only. 1 Cor 3 is about ministry, not doing righteousness or sinning. Unrighteous works of the flesh take men to be burned in hell.

Ministerial works burned up, receive no reward. Our ministry must be pure from the heart and true from Scripture.

False teachers get no reward for teaching false doctrine, such as OSAS.

I just did.

We are saved by grace through faith, and we stay saved by grace through faith, by doing the good work of adding virtue and godliness to our faith.

Of course you will deny it. Paul said that works cancel out Grace.

Eph. 2:8-9

"Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace.

And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then it is no more grace: otherwise work is no more work."

What Paul is saying that works have nothing to do with salvation other than proving salvation. We are saved by Grace through faith, or we are not saved at all! The works come as a result of being saved by Grace through faith.

But this comes from the understanding of the New Covenant only taught by Paul. And you're never going to get salvation God's way until you understand that New Covenant that Paul taught.

your stuck on james, who was calling people out for a CLAIMED faith only..
True. It's called faith alone without works, which you teach.

You need to stop focusing on your pet passage and read the whole of the word. james did not contradict paul
If one or two verses of Scripture condemns our teaching, then our teaching is condemned. It's the reason we avoid or twist them.

thats not what the term justified mean, the term is a legal term, it means found innocent of wrong doing, Found to be righteous, or found to have paid your debt in full
The semantics of doting about words does not save your gospel.

If any man teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; He is proud, knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings.

But ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof: I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh.

We are saved from Gods wrath. or the condemnation of sin.
Not while sinning with the world. The worst Christian hypocrisy and blaspheming of grace and the blood of the Lamb, is the teaching of being uncondemned, while doing the same as the condemned.

And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

Another pet Scripture you avoid.

Yes, written to the jews. who thought they were righteous and did nto need Jesus because they obeyed the law. yet they judged the gentile
So the Jews did keep and obey the law afterall? Jesus condemned them for not keeping the law, Stephen was slain the same as Jesus, for accusing them of not keeping the law, and Paul confirmed none of them kept the law.

Which of the prophets have not your fathers persecuted? and they have slain them which shewed before of the coming of the Just One; of whom ye have been now the betrayers and murderers: Who have received the law by the disposition of angels, and have not kept it.

Your doctrine really is your own, isn't it. You obviously don't even think of Scripture before speaking your own faith alone.

Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak.

The Jews believed they were not condemned, while transgressing the law, because they had the law, not because they were doing and obeying it.

Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,

Christians do the same as the Jews by having the gospel and justifying themselves, while not obeying it.

I don;t teach thatr, and have never said that.
Yes you do, by teaching faith alone to be saved from wrath only, and do not preach the good news of being saved from sinning, by which the wrath of God comes.

You tried teaching faith alone, and say you are not, until you then said the words. it's the same case here. You teach not being condemned while doing the same as the condemned, but don't want to say it.

You are experiencing the nerve damage of having your teaching stripped of your fluffy words, and laid bare to the bone for what it really is.

You can resolve it right now: if you do sin with the world, are you condemned as the world, or justified and uncondemned by Christ?

Your self righteousness
Self righteousness is doing anything without the faith of Jesus from a pure heart.

And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Self righteousness is also claiming righteousness by our own faith alone and justifying ourselves, while doing the same unrighteousness of the world.

And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?

NO one will do ONE WORK. unless they first have faith

True, and no one has any faith without that one work. Faith alone is dead.

Paul preaches against works without faith, and James preaches against faith without works.

The gospel of saved and justified by faith alone is false. That's why some Christians want to be stuck on Paul, but not on James.
everyone has faith ALONE before they do a work..
Speak for yourself. I have no faith alone, especially not yours.

You say there is no faith alone, and then you teach faith alone.

otherwise. THEY WILL NOT do the work.

And we also see how the gospel of faith alone without works, is based upon humanist philosophy.

God says there is no such thing as having any faith without works. Only man imagines he has faith, without doing it.

God says faith is not whole and complete, until the faith is done, and not just imagined.

Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar? Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

The seed is dead without roots. The roots are the beginning works of faith.

But when the sun was up, it was scorched; and because it had no root, it withered away.

Faith alone without works is seed without roots.

I am just stating what Jesus said

John 3:
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

what work is required? Jesus said it is the work of God that we believe (john 6) When they asked him what works were required.

OK, my belief is to make harmony with "all" of Jesus's teachings. Not just a few verses. And when you put them all together I think you get Faith plus works are required so that Jesus desires to save us.

Or you could say your faith will save you as @Eternally Grateful has stated. And perhaps faith is a work. The bible has a lot to say about salvation, have either of you accepted all of it so that works plus faith are required if we want to be desirable to Jesus for salvation?

Paul tells us that the Law (commandment keeping) brings forth death, he refers to it as "the letter that kills." That would be killing the soul, a spiritual death, which is punished with everlasting separation from God.

Why does Paul tell is this? Because man cannot keep Laws and Commandments and it condemns him. So God sent His Son to do what we could not do, keep the Law and commandments perfectly, that through faith in His performance, not ours, fallen man can come back into relationship with God. That is called Grace, what we don't deserve but freely given to us by the Father for trusting in His Son.

Now if it be of Grace it is no more of works, Paul has made this crystal clear, we have no excuse for not knowing this.
