The scriptures do not belong to us. It is the word of God. They are His words, not yours to do with according to your will, but they are God's, and they accomplish His will, and are sent to whomsoever He wills.

In confining scripture to be interpreted and understood only by your church, you place your church above the word of God, giving your church authority over and above God.
You effectually deny God and cast Him aside, denying Him the relationship with His own redeemed people for whom He bled and died.
