[Rev 2:1 KJV] 1 Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;
When Paul went to Ephesus there were disciples there (Acts 19:1) He had not yet established the church at Ephesus. The disciples he met there were disciples of John and were baptized with John's baptism (Acts 19:2). Paul went into the synagogue to preach Christ (Acts 18:19 19:8); Paul would expound John's baptism more fully, that Jesus is Christ, the Son of God (Acts 9:20 9:22 18:26). This church of believing Jews was probably established upon being scattered into Asia (1 Peter 1:1) and was more than likely the church John sent his letter to in Revelations 2:1, not the church Paul established.
Here is why I think the church of Ephesus is a Jewish church. a believing remnant.
[Deu 11:22 KJV] 22 For if ye shall diligently keep all these commandments which I command you, to do them, to love the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, and to cleave unto him;
Israel was commanded to keep the commandments.
[Rev 2:7 KJV] 7 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.
[Rev 22:14 KJV] 14 Blessed [are] they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city.
Israel had to keep his commandments to have right to the tree of life and to enter the city.
[Rev 12:17 KJV] 17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
The remnant of Israel keeps the commandments once again upholding the contention that keeping the commandments identified believing Israel as the recipient of this letter.
[Rev 2:2 KJV] 2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:
This church tried those who claimed they were apostles.
[1Jo 4:1 KJV] 1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
1 John was written to Israel and in his letter, John tells the Jews going thru the tribulation to determine who was a false prophet.
[Rev 2:3 KJV] 3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name's sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted.
This church was to have patience and remain steadfast thru the tribulation.
[Heb 10:36 KJV] 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.
Hebrews was written to believing Israel, so it is Israel who is to have patience
[Heb 3:14 KJV] 14 For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;
The book of Hebrews urges Israel to be steadfast.
