The Magisterium of The Church is the "who" in Matthew 18:17.

The term magisterium is based on the Latin word for “teacher” (magister). It refers to the teaching authority which Christ has given to the Church with the Apostles being the first magisterium's. The term refers to the authority itself, not those who exercise it. The term refers to those who exercise this teaching authority—in other words, to the pope and the bishops teaching in union with him. Collectively, they are referred to as the “Magisterium,” as in “the Magisterium has infallibly taught that God is a Trinity.”

The AUTHORITY, is given to one who represents The Lord God..... WITH the Lord Gods own WORD and approved WORDS.

Not once did the Lord God....declared HIS CHURCH was exclusively called the Catholic Church.

Not once did the Lord God....declare Mary is the mother of God.

Not once did the Lord God....declare Mary was forbidden to submit unto her husband, know him, have children with him, after Jesus’ birth.

Not once did the Lord God....declare men should pray TO saints.

On and on...the things “clerics” ADD to what the Lord Gods own words, own approved words, did not convey.

$800 suit....uh, more like 3-$10,000. And not to mention the umpteen cans of hairspray.... People certainly are impressed by the glitz of a speakers apparel and foo foo, and the sanctuary’s glitz....yet God says it’s about the “house” being a house of prayer and worship unto Him...

True, Jesus wore clothing like a common man.
To quote Shania Twain - That don't impress me much. The only time I have seen stuff like that is on the God channels which I don't have.

This is my church

Nice. Come as you are, leave the distracting pretense for the theater.
Absolutely @Taken - no candles, no vestments, no goblets or collecting plates - just people who love Jesus. And my avatar is of three of my friends at church breaking bread during a Sunday gathering. The man with the bible is our leader. We enjoy God together.

The two things that protestants hate....the Catholic Church and Smart people LOL
Like Biden said, I am sick and tired of smart men! We need a stupid president and we got one!
There are alternatives....
Educated in Christianity or stupid in Christianity....
What does it take to interpret an ancient text?.....pick a translation and read it like the most recent edition of the local Sunday Paper.
WOW!! Wonder how we got 30,000 renditions of the scriptures?.....Mystery solved!
Are smart people ever wise and/or crafty? Are they the same?

"Let no man deceive himself. If any man among you seemeth to be wise in this world, let him become a fool, that he may be wise.
For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.
And again, The Lord knoweth the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain." I Cor 3:18-20

Well that is some good advise. Hopefully that was not the nature of the Apostles or your doctor.
But may describe some of those that started these denominations. Following a fool?
And lets hope the wisdom of Christianity fairs better.

One step at a time and one person at a time, while always leaning on God.

Your post 483.

Maybe has been answered already but, is that the answer to someone's first question here? About who is the Pope?

Your answer:christ the king

honestly I forgot

but Christ is the only king

Peter and his successors are the popes the vicars of Christ

they are given the kingdom
They administer the kingdom until Christ returns

Authority of the Apostles!

What authority does Christ have?
What power does Christ have?
What mission / ministry does Christ have?

Peter, the apostles and their successors have the same authority, power, and mission! Jn 20:21 as my father sent me, even so send I you!

John 17:18
As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.

The apostles are Christ’s successors!
They have authority to send others as well, apostle means one who is sent!

Therefore the apostles have authority to send more apostles or successors!
Apostolic succession!

The nations still need to be taught, disciples still need to be baptized and the church the new covenant kingdom of christ still needs to be governed!

Hebrews 3:1
Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus;

Christ is an apostle, and has authority to send other apostles, the apostles also have this authority, so the apostles continue down thru the centuries as Christ promised! Matt 28:19-20

Keys of authority! And power to bind and loose! Matt 16:18 and Matt 18:18 matt 28:19 Isa 22:21-22

Moral authority:
(Teaching)
Necessity of being taught by Christ:
Two edge sword: defining truth and condemning errors, and Interpreting scripture.

Jurisdictional authority:
(Governing / administering)
Necessity of Peter and the apostles and their successors to govern the holy church.

Spiritual authority:
(Life of Grace)
Sanctifying thru the mass and Sacraments

The apostles teaching is Christ’s teaching, Christ and His church are one! Acts 9:4

Christian rule of faith is not the Bible alone! But the doctrine of the apostles! Acts 2:42

Jesus Christ continues HIS ministry in His new covenant church thru Peter, the apostles, and their successors with the same mission, power, and authority!
Mt 16:18 Mt 28:19 Acts 1:17 acts 8:31 & 35 Lk 10:16 Jn 8:32 Jn 13:20 Jn 15:5 Jn 16:13 Jn 20:21-22 eph 2:20

Lk 10:16
He who hears you hears me...

John 13:20
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

Only the church has authority from Christ to define the truth and teach!
Matt 16:18 matt 18:18 matt 28:19 Jn 20:21-23 Jn 8:32 Jn 16:13

The teaching of Peter and the apostles and successors is the teaching of Christ!

I know that Catholics believe mere bread and wine turn miraculously into the actual body and blood of Jesus but what do you make of this passage?

John 16:25
“Though I have been speaking figuratively.

This comes straight after the Passover supper. So I believe it is fair to say that when Jesus told the 12 to drink of his blood and eat of his body it was figurative speech just like when he said he was the gate, or when he said he was the true vine.

1 cor 11
23 For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:

24 And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

25 After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

26 For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.

27 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep. (Died)

So you can't answer what I asked. i.e. Is he really a physical gate or vine just as he become physical bread and wine? And also what do you think 'figurative' means.
