It's both/all.

The giving of a message in a language (Fijian) unknown to the one speaking, but known to members of the audience was #3 on the list in the opening post.

The gift of permanently being able to speak a language (Navajo) was #5.
Are you referring to the OP list?

If yes, i was not addressing the OP list, but thank you for letting me know.

The Holy Spirit has orchestrated this interaction, you with me, on this very subject.

God has already given to us the EXACT time when the gifts cease as given to us in Genesis, Gospel, Acts, 1 Corinthians and Revelation.

These are the Scriptural locations whereby God permanently and precisely declared His giving of the Gifts and His taking away.
Ignorance kiss and hold hands - love it!

YES INDEED and PRAISE GOD and thank you for that UPlifting report = well received.

While that is indeed is a great blessing from God, it is not the Gift of Tongues that we are discussing here.

The specific gift of tongues we are discussing is that which is UNKNOWN to man.

Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may prophesy.
For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.
He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.
I wish you all spoke with tongues, but even more that you prophesied; for he who prophesies is greater than he who speaks with tongues, unless indeed he interprets, that the church may receive edification.
They ceased after the establishment of the body in the earth...but not all is lost on you David ‘The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life’?

Understanding why the gifts of the Holy Spirit began and eventually ceased is a crucial aspect of studying NT Scripture. The Gospel faced significant challenges in its early stages, and without the gifts of the Holy Spirit, its success would have been uncertain. Once the Gospel took root and the Church was established, these gifts were no longer needed and gradually ceased.

A spotlight is a protest at midnight. It conforms to God's reality while it says to the darkness, 'you will never understand'

Ironically you have hit on the issue!
Are you those who cry "But others mocking said, “They are filled with new wine.”
Sad part is those who "will never understand" do so because they desire their own teaching...having no ears to hear.
Good to hear from you again Quiet!

@quietthinker continuing this serious note...Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.” Jn 8:47

Why do you not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to hear my word. Jn 8:43.

Some will never understand because they believe they have "seen a vision", or "heard a message," not from God, but from their own ideas or from those who have been misled into thinking they possess the Holy Spirit's gifts, including the ability to speak in tongues. They fail to grasp the true purpose of tongues and why they were necessary in the first place.

We have the Word of God to build faith and instruct one another.

It is enough

Youre welcome quiet...you have a long history of "every learning" but "never coming to a knowledge of truth"

It's important you see these signs in yourself and endeavor to rectify the problem.

Irony was mentioned. The 'ever learning' quote, true as it is, is the space of any delusional protagonist who feels compelled to advise. :hmhehm

It's clear who is the main character in your life quiet...I've asked you so many times to get out of your own head and into the Word of God and do you know how many times you have tried? hmmx1:

Exactly. The gifts will endure all the way to the second coming of Jesus Christ.

Love the Truth, never let it go and never exchange it for human intellectual prowess by which men are trapped thereby.
Amen, I will never deny the Holy Ghost experience that I have until my last breath. The world didn’t give it to me and the world can’t take it away.

Simple Truth for His People who BELIEVE His every word!
Yes, we are New Testament believers and we need the Holy Ghost now more than ever. We need the gifts to operate among us more than ever. We are in the last days and this is the most important time to endure. Lot of sin around us.

The cessation of gifts will be at the second coming of Jesus Christ. That is what the end of chapter 13 is talking about when that which is perfect is come. It is also found in 1 Corinthians chapter 1. Confirming the gifts unto the second coming of Jesus Christ. That ye come behind in no gift.
The gifts are handy. I wonder what they will be replaced with.

Hello to the original poster,

While I don’t believe people speak tongues as it was in the day of Pentecost anymore. I tend to believe there are two different languages. An earthly language and a heavenly language. One where you speak by terms of reference to materials to make a point, and then the other spiritual points. The day of Pentecost it was people speaking other nations languages, yes there was also interpreters, and I believe sometimes people actually have to learn things to get the experience in understanding them. When it comes to the Bible the Holy Spirit and good study can greatly benefit any seek of Truth. So, I do believe people speak tongues but not like then, however in a different way. Some will understand; some will just find you maddening.
