.
1Cor 13:13 . .There are three things that will endure-- faith, hope, and
love; and the greatest of these is love.

Well; the thing is: tongues don't make anybody a better person, but for sure
love does.

For example; love exemplifies itself in behaviors like courtesy, kindness,
consideration, lenience, tolerance, patience, deference, tact, sympathy,
empathy, diplomacy, generosity, consideration, assistance, civility,
friendliness, forgiveness, and gentleness, etc.

The way I see it, love trumps tongues so I'd advise people to work on
improving their character first and leave the tongues for another day.

My personal experience has been... not what I expected.

I was instrumental in God healing a man.
So I thought that was the beginning of a healing ministry.
Never happened again.

I had a vision that led to a divine appointment.
Once again I thought it was the beginning of something that would continue.
Never happened again.

My current posture is to be ready for anything God might want me to do.
I won't back away from something, claiming "It's NOT my gift."

[
Just keep abiding IN Him, because He will abide in you. Gifts are one thing, but letting God wash your mind of all doctrines of man and reteaching you the ONE true doctrine and the only right interpretation of His Word is the most valuable gift you can have.

Agree. That is certainly part of it.
I guess I was asking the question in a more historic sense.
The examples in the book of Acts are telling.

- Why didn't the Samaritans receive the Holy Spirit?
- What happened at the house of Cornelius?
- Why hadn't the disciples in Ephesus received the Spirit?

[
The Jews received the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem on the Day of Pentecost, but it was not world-wide.
Then the Samaritans received it by the laying on of hands by the Apostles in Samaria.
Then the Holy Spirit fell on the Gentiles at the house of Cornelius as a sign to Peter that the Gentiles were now eligible for baptism, though the deacon Philip had already baptized the Ethiopian eunuch. The Bible doesn't say, but I expect that he received the Holy Spirit also when He fell on the other Gentiles at the home of Cornelius.
The disciples in Ephesus were disciples of John the Baptist and didn't know about Jesus. When Paul questioned them He ended up telling them what they didn't know and they received the Holy Spirit.
And it has gone world-wide.

Explain the logistics.
How did all the "God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven"

[

Its 2 situations.

First the writer only knows about the "nations" that He knows about.
This is like Peter only knowing about John the Baptist's water baptism for the JEW......so, that is why Peter told the Jews..>>"repent and be baptized".
So, all of This is all Pre-Columbus and Pre-Internet and Pre Paul showing up.

So, he's talking from his own perspective.

Also, this Harvest celebration Festival, is known by all the Jews who are related to Jerusalem...so, they would have made plans to be there, and were in Jerusalem........days before Pentecost.

This is what you said...

"So, if we don't speak with tongues, we don't speak with the spirit to God, but only with the carnal mind.

This is a false statement.

Speaking prophetically is not from the carnal mind.
Like I am saying in the statement, we pray this way...

14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prayeth, but my understanding is unfruitful.

15 What is it then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also:,,,

If you only pray with understanding, you are only praying via your carnal thought process. Very lop-sided.

You must pray in tongues a lot.

Yes - I pray in tongues when He chooses to speak through me with that gift, and it is awesome.

According to first Corinthians 14, praying in the spirit is praying in tongues. He says I pray with the spirit and I pray with understanding also. It’s pretty easy to understand what he’s saying.

The indwelling of the Holy Spirit ( Acts 2:38-40 ) is different from the power of the Holy Spirit. The first was given through baptism in water. The second was given through one of two ways. In acts one the promise is told to come into Jerusalem and would go to the Jews, gentiles and ends of the earth ( Samaritans acts 10 ). The apostles, the 11 plus Paul had the ability to lay their hands on someone.

Yes it is - but you are assuming that is the only way to pray in the Spirit.

This is fascinating to study the outpourings in Acts.
And the unpredictable nature of the Holy Spirit.
I have launched many topics to explore it.

What is the difference between the indwelling Spirit and the Baptism with the Holy Spirit?

...topic I asked a question about... https://www.christianityboard.com/t...tized-believers-in-samaria-received-the-holy-spirit.54803/ Here are the facts: 1) Those in Samaria were believers (had accepted the word of God) 2) They had received baptism in the name of the Lord...

Can you name the four biblical cities/countries that define the Baptism with the Holy Spirit?

...we read that Jesus told the Apostles not to leave the city. What city? 2) In Acts chapter eight the baptized believers had not received the Spirit in what country? 3) In Acts chapter ten Peter has a vision that led him to preach in what city? 4) In Acts chapter nineteen Paul found some...

In search of the Spirit of Christ - how many Spirits/spirits are there?

...thing to measure in any tangible way. Basically we understand the Trinitarian doctrine of God the Father and God the Son and God the Holy Spirit. But the Bible uses the word Spirit/spirit in many ways. And even Spirit is not used consistently. Worse than that, we are presented with MANY...

Gifts of the Spirit as Body Parts

The Apostle begins first Corinthians chapter twelve with these words: "Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed." - 1 Corinthians 12:1 Yet some, not understanding that the Body of Christ is made up of many parts, would toss out gifts (body...

He seemed to be sayin that else was carnal...
..we also pray in the Spirit .

Maybe he doesn’t know what praying in the Spirit means...we pray from the heart/spirit if we are Born Again, imo.

I come before God with a sincere heart, pour my heart out to him..I also talk to him most of the day.

If he thinks the only way to pray to God is by tongues,, he makes no sense.?

Perhaps you could explain to @Truther how that works.
What does it mean to pray in the Spirit aside from tongues?
Truther has provided biblical evidence for their view.

[
What has biblical evidence got to do with it?

Please explain?

Who leads us in prayer, the Bible or the Living Holy Spirit who indwells our spirit?

Am I reading this correctly, did truther mean the only way that we can communicate with God is by tongues?
@Truther was defining what "praying in the Spirit" is biblically. And asking if other prayers were from the carnal mind.
They are taking a lot of heat for it.

This reference indicates it is tongues. But that is not to limit it to tongues. IMO

1 Corinthians 14:14-15 NIV
or if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful.
15 So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my understanding;
I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my understanding.

Let's explore the biblical evidence for Spirit directed prayer that is not tongues.

The term "praying in the spirit" is synonymous for tongues. Is that the end of it? (nope)

Ephesians 6:18 NIV
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests.
With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

Romans 8:26-27 NIV
In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness.
We do not know what we ought to pray for,
but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.
27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit,
because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.

A Born Again is indwelled by the Holy Spirit....we pray in the spirit our spirit /heart prays..we cry out to our Father when things get tough,/...Spirit to spirit we pray...heart to heart....not in tongues all the time, utter nonsense ...we have a living breathing relationship with our Father via The Holy Spirit.

I agree.
But where is the biblical evidence?

I don’t need to explore any Bible to know how to pray to my Father in Heaven,I’m Born Again..I’m not a Born Again Bible Basher.

I have been birthed by the Spirit , supernaturally, by divine heart revelation ....a spirit child of God.
