I guess my mind was changed. I had quiet enough brain today and it went with The Tenant of Wildfell Hall by Anne Bronte.

I don't know why. I was just drawn to it and I honestly still don't get what it's about. I have to use the dictionary a lot. A lot of weird words in the 1800s.

*The only book that ultimately fits that description for me is the Bible, and I won’t ever allow frustration to prevent me from trying to get people to read it. *

I’m currently reading Shema Yisrael: The Three Portions of the Shema Including the Bedtime Shema, translation and commentary by Rabbi Meir Zlotowitz.

@Arthur recommended it. It is definitely an issue in the contemporary church, especially in my denomination. Also, the authors' late mother/grandmother was an in-person friend of mine.

And to the usual suspects, please remember this thread is about what books we're reading; it is not a debating forum.

Now, this one is more on my intellectual level.

Breaking Cat News is my favorite modern comic strips. I was very disappointed when my local newspaper dropped it, but at least I can follow it on-line.

I had actually bought this book for our son when he was in the hospital for the final time, but sadly, I don't think he ever had the chance to read it.

This one was recommended by @Nancy. For those of us who recognize (and struggle with) the problem of theodicy.

After reading it, I donated it to our church library. Perhaps it can inspire others.

* O friend. Come on in out of the cold. Sit right down here close to the fire and warm yourself while I tell you about the Good Book. *

That (and the fact that I'm reading one of Richard Hays' books now) reminds me of the time I was reading one of Hays' heavier theological works. I had to have one window open on the Kindle app, one on Blue Letter Bible to check the Greek lexicon, one on Google, and one to a German-to-English translator 'cuz the author like to spice up his writing with quotes from 19th- and 20th-century German theologians using a vocabulary that far exceeded what I remember from my high school German classes.

* Book stores are a mixture of good and evil. The Bible Story is what people truly need in their lives. *

Read widely. Read deeply. Read thoughtfully. Read critically. Above all else, read the Bible story.

(And still some joker will ask me: “Have you ever read the Bible?” It’s as certain as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west.)
