The stopping of the daily sacrifice (of two lambs) is part of committing the transgression of desolation and the setting up of the abomination of desolation.

"desolation" in that context is that the tod and aod will make the temple desolate of the worship of the One True God.

The tod is an act - by the Antichrist of sitting in the temple, claiming to have achieved God-hood.

The aod is statue image (which could be considered an idol) of the beast-king (the Antichrist in his final stage of development) that will be "set up" on the temple mount. Which that statue image will be not shortly thereafter indwelt by Satan. Making it appear to come alive and speak.

The transgression of desolation of Daniel 8 is the SAME event as the placing of the "abomination that maketh desolate" written of in Daniel 11:31, by the coming "vile person" of that Chapter.

It will involve the "image of the beast" prophesied at the end of Revelation 13 setup by the "another beast", i.e., the final Antichrist/false-Messiah.

The idea of the "image of the beast" with commanded worship is a direct parallel to what Nebuchadnezzar, king of Babylon did with setting up the golden idol image of himself, and commanding that all bow in worship to it at the sound of the psalter. This is why Revelation points to the idea of old Babylon with the Babylon Harlot mystery.
