@Mink57
Thanks for the compliment earlier. You said something like if men were more like Jesus we wouldn't need feminism or respect in marriage would be easier.
I agree with both. My question to you is this: has feminism caused women to push to be better in their overall character than men and treat others as they wish to be treated?
I think feminism is a
response to how men have treated women. The overall idea is to 'do unto others.' Have men treated women the way THEY would want women to treat them?
No one likes to be told what to do, Wynona. Male or female. A man who has aspirations to be an artist wouldn't like it if someone - male or female -- came along and told him, "Artist? Nope. You're ONLY allowed to be a brick-layer. Because you're a MAN, you're supposed to ONLY do "manly" jobs!"
I believe feminism is mainly a rejection of patriarchy. One of my biggest issues with the movement is that it's so focused on attacking tradition and patriarchy that it fails to replace it with anything half as good or better.
WHICH 'tradition'? What YOU'RE talking about is tradition that's pretty recent in human history. PLUS, the tradition you're talking about is peculiar to certain
CULTURES. Don't forget, the early American Colonists tried to convert the Native Americans from
THEIR traditions to European traditions.
Patriarchy hasn't been in existence for ALL of human history. You said that yourself. While it currently exists in MUCH of the world, some parts of the world have
resisted. Thank goodness.
I have seen a lot of women wanting to compete down rather than up with men.
"I can sleep around casually and brag about it just like men do!"
"I can be rude and get my way! Male bosses are respected for it, why can't I?"
"I should be free to wear no shirt in public! Its not fair if men can do it!"
Why are the messages from feminists so focused on getting women to imitate low tier male behaviour just because they percieve men as getting a free pass?
Because for MANY years, so many men behaved on the 'low tier' that they
DID get a 'free pass'! While SOME men respect women who don't sleep around, and save themselves for marriage, other men refer to THOSE women as 'prudes'. Women are either prudes or sluts. And the men? Yet, you know darn well that if a man sleeps around, he's REVERED by his male counterparts. And after all, HOW does a woman know IF a MAN is a virgin?
As for wearing no shirt in public, you also know that there are tribes where women do NOT wear shirts in public. Once again, this is CULTURAL. Heck, Adam and Eve were both NAKED and "felt no shame" BEFORE the fall.
This is why fairness is not some virtue that needs to be chased at all costs. Its unfair that more men commit suicide than women. The answer isn't to call suicide good.
The idea that more men commit suicide than women isn't about
fairness. We culture men differently than women. But that's not WOMEN'S fault! That's PATRIARCHY'S fault! Feminism didn't teach men they're not supposed to cry; that's what patriarchy did! Feminism didn't teach men, "You as a man MUST be in charge at all times, even if you don't want to"; that's what PATRIARCHY teaches.
There are plenty of things in the world that are unfair but it would cause even more harm to try and change them than to leave it alone.
Maybe. But I don't think Patriarchy is ONE of them.
