That's not my question. I'm just wondering if you can tell if a guy is considered good-looking by looking at him, or if you would have to ask a woman if you wanted to know.
If a man is especially bad-looking I can tell. If it's the poor guy off of goonies or some monster off of the Lord of the Rings, I can see that. It's just with the normal range to good looking range, I can't tell.
Yes, you need to find honest ones; they do exist in the tattoo industry, anyway... :)
I remember reading in a psychology book that people tend to pair off with people who are about as equally good-looking. I had no idea if I were good-looking. As a young man in my 20's, i talked to my mom about it. She said I was about as good looking as Courtney Cox on Friends. That was back when she was young, and she was quite an attractive woman. So I liked to hear that. Even though, rationally, I know that your mom's opinion on whether you are good-looking is probably not the most unbiased piece of information.
I did not seem to turn too many heads in the US. When I went to Indonesia, though, it seemed like a lot of girls liked me and I heard some comments about me being good-looking. There is the exotic-looking factor. I'd imagine a mildly cute Asian girl might get a lot more male interest in the US than in her country because she is different.
One of my white American friends in Korea was concerned about his new girlfriend. He wanted to know if they looked okay together. This concern was not even on my radar if it was me. But he was a rather tall fellow, and she wasn't, so he was probably insecure about the idea of being a really tall man with a woman who was not tall. I got to thinking about it. I didn't care so much what I look like. I wanted the girl to look good, and to like me of course.
I wonder if hose short bald guys that women say aren't good looking who end up with beautiful women have no idea if they are good looking, also. Maybe some of them have a lot of money.

For beards, etc., there's also the practical side of not having to shave every day; this is the clincher (for me), rather than looks...Weird thread. I guess you have to have one of every kind on a forum though.
My answer though as a man, wouldn't it be great to grow a beard like Phil Robertson or Jase Robertson or Chris Stapleton, and wouldn't it be great to grow a mustache like Brooks & Dunn, or some famous Aussie Cricketer. I think these men set high standards for facial hair.
I don't have much problems with growing beards, but keep it trimmed for professional reasons, but I am working on the mustache, and that is so slow growing.Hopefully it will grow into a proper mustache soon though. :)
Anyway I haven't shaven completely for a couple of years now.
I would say that as far a looks goes that X is seen by everyone as a real ugly cuss.
Also that Y may be seen as a Neanderthal from my perspective but some girls like that ugly cuss for some reason I can't figure it out.
There are others that are regarded as pretty boys to some degree in that they have fem facial features some what.
I know of people who as the years went by that boy they looked shocking, even some that I did not even recognise who they were at all as they had change so much.
I remember my elder brother said to some cuss at the pub, what race are you in surprise, the bloke said what he was, some European this and that I can not remember, but my brother said boy are you one ugly cuss, that bloke was not bothered at all by such at all, in fact he was really happy to talk with us.
I remember one bloke came up to me in the pub in such anger right in my face claiming that I was ugly, I had let a girl friend go as she was not my cup off tea, she was good looking tho part Asian but tall 5ft 10 and he had just got on with her, I could not care less at all, I just thought what do I care what he thinks.
I see all blacks as ugly and Asians as well, but some half cast or so Asians can be good looking, she was. my mum showed my wife a picture that she took of her once and my wife tore it up.

ah well i dont do that for the most part irl, except with those who i can recognize already. its more like ppl i meet once or dont know all blend together. as soon as some happenstance identifies them to me they get a face

i think its really a lack of any focus on them, like never even making eye contact, etc, until i become involved in their world by some whatever, then i can hang the face to the interest or situation. We're going bowling and beer tomorrow night. im buying seeds from her. whatever. then their face differentiates from the crowd. weird lol
42 years ago I asked the Lord for a wife. Two weeks later a strange lady walked into the back of the church when I was preaching. All I could see was large sun glasses and a face surrounded by black hair...yet I knew this was the one the Lord had brought. Totally threw me off the lesson. However, she saw absolutely nothing in me nor wanted to. We were married within 6 months. Looks? I don't think they played a large part at all in the beginning...if any on her part more put off lol, although later after the sunnies came off the picture revealed was at least to me, a stunner.
I'd met my wife briefly before, and I'd looked at her later and wondered if the Lord would give me a wife that beautiful. That was a brief meeting. A year later, after we saw each other again, she would later tell me the Lord told her that I was the one she was going to marry-- something along those lines. I can't say it was that clear to me at the time, but I went home and prayed about whether she was the wife I'd been praying for.

@Sabertooth Yes, they do have to learn to sit still, and pose without moving, don't they? Artists also need those who won't move when they are doing still life, right?
From what I can gather, regular features are considered attractive. But then, my wife says she was immediately attracted to me, and my nose is long and my cheekbones too prominent, and I'm told that when I grin, I scare people.

I have a mate and another mates sister who is just like the first mate I put forward, but they live 4hr apart, but would they get on ? would they be good for each other, well no I don't thinks so because they are both clearly the same stupid in how they think. but I would think that one having a traits that is better in another way is a good thing because dumb and dumb on the same level is not productive.
Happened to me. I was initially attracted to my wife of 50 years because she was outspoken. But that smile... and the way she smelled and everything else about her. I don't think love at first sight is a thing, but infatuation is. Sometimes love grows from that. I wish everyone in the world could have what I've had, all these years.
So refreshing to hear a husband speak in loving words about his wife...and visa-versa :)
And yes, agreed about the "infatuation at first sight"...lust, really...IMHO.
I think love of all kinds can grow if we feed it and water it.

Lol, yes...hooking up like that is beyond ridiculous but...then again...it is the WORLD'S view. How sad.
