Thank you and agree with all that you have said BUT...
blessings
J.
Just want to add this, I am weary of people who seems to know all the answers and this is not directed at you M.
After all, we are going to die and stand before the Judge yet there must be, in spite of all that you have mentioned an experiential assurance unless of course it was never true.
What is our purpose in life?
Why were we born and where do we go when we die?
Thinking out loudly for there are others who struggle with the same question.
We won't find answers on YouTube, Google or any other "tube"
Most people were scarred by there Churches, deep emotional traumatic scars, speaking from experience.
I used to visit people with my pastor and always, the inevitable TV...Christians living like the world.
I guess it all comes down to this, the utter denying of self, the taking up our cross and keep on following the Master.
I'm just "different" that is my nature and character.
Blessings
J.
Very good stuff, J.
Glory to God!

I thought it meant separatist.

Let's ask the internet!

Who Were the Pharisees? Bible Definition and Meaning

The root meaning of the word "Pharisee" is uncertain. It is probably related to the Hebrew root prs [v;r'P], meaning "separate" or "detach."

There you have it!

Much love!
My bad.

Luke 14:3 So Jesus asked the experts in the law and the Pharisees, "Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?"

I thought I remembered Jesus saying "Scribes and Lawyers."

But, anyway, there you go. :)

How about with you?

There is so much I want to say but I'm afraid I will be branded as hypocritical old senile man.
I believe in absolute holiness in all spheres of our lives, a life of self denial, a life that is praying (and wrestling) with our heavenly Father, no comforts, a life that is fully yielded...going to stop right here since it is 1:04 in the morning here
I don't want to be remembered as a common Christian, but radically un-common...like my wife was.
Hope this make sense since I think in Afrikaans and speak in English.
Actually in a couple of languages lol!
I noticed many are cracking jokes here and that is not me.
Shalom laChem chesed panav Elohim eloheinu.
J.
You have a blessed day.

@stunnedbygrace

In the Audio, the Dark Night Of The Soul business begins at the 42-minute mark.

Did you know that Mother Teresa went through the Dark Night for the last 20 years of her life?
No one knew until her diaries were discovered.

He mentions her in the class, but I remember hearing about that before.

Oh my gosh twenty years. A few months seems harsh and at times unbearable, twenty YEARS? Nevertheless, Your will not mine. John says the second night lasts much longer, but with some brief periods of illumination. That’s if He takes you into it. Although…it’s much more bearable with your passions calmed, but then I don’t know if this last time was the start of that or just more of the first night and it’s doubtful I will find a living man who understands it enough to give me counsel. But John says calmed passions are the result of the end of the first night, but he also says God sometimes never…oh never mind. I will be fine and I trust Him and John has been a good guide but I don’t need him as desperately as I did.

Yeah, I am laying on the frivolity kinda heavy.
Sorry if it disturbed your peace, Brother. :(

I thought it seemed like you were kinda thick with him.
You know, like in "thick as thieves."
I have hardly encountered him at all.
I should check him out.
If I'm being honest, the few times that I did read his stuff, I didn't get it.
But I can be kinda dense.

I appreciate Paul's contribution to Scripture, and I recognize its urgent necessity, but I have reservations about really digging into his stuff because of all the disagreement surrounding it and Peter's warning:

...and right here is the problem, you have reservations re the Pauline epistles and I have studied it for many years, still study and parsing each and every word.
The tendency is to remain in the Gospels where sinners were comfortable with Christ but things changed after the resurrection of our blessed Savior Barn'
Somehow I feel the odd one out, looking in but don't find any that thinks like me.
No elevation or boasting on my side.

No one knew until her diaries were discovered.

Well, she definitely did this then if no one even knew:
16 “And when you fast, don’t make it obvious, as the hypocrites do, for they try to look miserable and disheveled so people will admire them for their fasting. I tell you the truth, that is the only reward they will ever get. 17 But when you fast, comb your hair and wash your face.18 Then no one will notice that you are fasting, except your Father, who knows what you do in private. And your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.

As I was saying earlier though, it’s my thoughts which are so disheveled that makes me go away for a bit, because I would certainly help no one to speak to them in that state. I just keep silent.

Actually, I think tradition says that Nicodemus was a Pharisee and Jesus called him a teacher in John 3, didn't he?

I think I'm in flood/spam mode for some reason.

I know why.

I'm avoiding the heavy Pauline discussion.

I appreciate Paul's contribution to Scripture, and I recognize its urgent necessity, but I have reservations about really digging into his stuff because of all the disagreement surrounding it and Peter's warning:

2 Peter 3:16 He writes this way in all his letters, speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.

I confess that I'm susceptible to ignorance and instability.

I find that virtually no one ever admits to not understanding any of his writing.
I don't know if this is viable or appropriate, but there it is.
I love Paul's writings! Some parts are very hard to understand! But his writing is so deep and so precise.

Much love!

Well, God doesn’t lead everyone the same. But most people can at least understand by experience that He seems like He hides from them at times for at least a few days. I really have a heart for someone though when I hear. Them say, I’m afraid God has abandoned me or, did I do something to upset Him?? I always try to help them but they do not usually believe what I say is true and think I do not understand. I sometimes recommend John of the cross but he’s very difficult for a lot of people so I mostly try to put it in my own words because it seems to help them more.

You know, I think when I said "dig into" I meant mostly with other people. I read his letters and Acts all the time. I just get uncomfortable discussing a lot of it because so much of it is so hotly and contentiously debated. Maybe I'm just neurotic.

Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you.

I agree, I understand that God works differently with us all. In my experience, when God has seemed silent to me, the reason was that I was hiding from Him. Whenever I find I'm trying to hide, I stop, and find He is as close as He has ever been.

I tend to want to hide when I'm forgetting that I am reconciled to God in Christ Jesus, and not for what I do or don't do.

Your "nights of darkness" seem foreign to me, who believes that God created us to have communion with Him, and a life of rejoicing in His Spirit.

Regardless of what methods He uses in our lives, I am fully convinced that His intent for us is abundance of life now, and we are either experiencing that, or we are growing in trust so that we will actually believe He's given us this freedom from flesh and sin and the world.

Much love!

Sorry if it disturbed your peace, Brother. :(

We only get that way after we’ve had long and heavy conversations. Usually after a cross spat but there was no spat this time, thankfully. But there was heavy conversation for sure.
