Hmm..interesting question and I noticed since you are back the "boys" is towing the line..we can go deeper on this subject with the morphology of the Greek and correlate it to our experience why?

2Co_13:5 Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?

Starting from here..and hopefully the heavens will open
J.

That’s a good verse. Examine yourself to see if you really ARE in trust.

So God said I'd be saved. Must be true!

Thank you and agree with all that you have said BUT...

Just want to add this, I am weary of people who seems to know all the answers and this is not directed at you M.
After all, we are going to die and stand before the Judge yet there must be, in spite of all that you have mentioned an experiential assurance unless of course it was never true.
What is our purpose in life?
Why were we born and where do we go when we die?
Thinking out loudly for there are others who struggle with the same question.
We won't find answers on YouTube, Google or any other "tube"
Most people were scarred by there Churches, deep emotional traumatic scars, speaking from experience.
I used to visit people with my pastor and always, the inevitable TV...Christians living like the world.
I guess it all comes down to this, the utter denying of self, the taking up our cross and keep on following the Master.
I'm just "different" that is my nature and character.
Blessings
J.

an experiential assurance unless of course it was never true.

There were lots of assurances and caresses at first. They lessened after awhile because they were a baser, less spiritual way to experience God and He wanted to exercise my trust. There’s still caresses. I don’t need them to stand firm though like I did at first. How about with you?

I think I'm in flood/spam mode for some reason.

I know why.

I'm avoiding the heavy Pauline discussion.

I appreciate Paul's contribution to Scripture, and I recognize its urgent necessity, but I have reservations about really digging into his stuff because of all the disagreement surrounding it and Peter's warning:

2 Peter 3:16 He writes this way in all his letters, speaking in them about such matters. Some parts of his letters are hard to understand, which ignorant and unstable people distort, as they do the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction.

I confess that I'm susceptible to ignorance and instability.

I find that virtually no one ever admits to not understanding any of his writing.
I don't know if this is viable or appropriate, but there it is.

Paul is precious to me but at various times I have been angry with him. Usually because I did not understand the spirit of what he was saying at the time.

@stunnedbygrace

In the Audio, the Dark Night Of The Soul business begins at the 42-minute mark.

Did you know that Mother Teresa went through the Dark Night for the last 20 years of her life?
No one knew until her diaries were discovered.

He mentions her in the class, but I remember hearing about that before.
