Thanks for reading my post Bob and commenting.
I dont believe we have met so Hello!
Greetings and well met.

At some point, I conclude that the other person has no intention beyond looking at the literal, at which point it is time to disengage.

Good luck (and God be with you).

Yes, I wish those who oppose me so strongly would leave me be. . But if a person is accused of teaching error then the accused has a right to defend their beliefs.

Just for clarity those who hold the belief that repentance has nothing to do with stopping sin, are the ones who get upset with my articles.

The rest are not bothered.

Thanks Bob

Well then you didn't learn anything from Jesus' parable and that's why you should leave my articles alone unless you think you can prove with Scripture, that I am misinterpreting Matthew 21:28-32
I'm not really interested in belaboring this. I've already said what I have to say.

Much love!

No you misunderstood me if that is what you believe I said.

I said we all sin.
I did not teach one sins when one repents.
Then we are back to the original question for clarification. Have you repented? And if so, then you no longer sin?

Much love!

I said we all sin.
I did not teach one sins when one repents.

Jesus teaches us from the parable of the two sons that one stops their sinning in true repentance.
As you admitted the publlicans and harlots stopped their sinning when they truly repented.

Could the harlots continue in prostitution and repented towards God, Mark?
What about the publicans? Could they continue to cheat people and have truly repented?

Everyone sins from time to time but those who continue in those sins are not penitent.
Do you see the inconsistency in your statements?

You don't sin if you repent, but everyone sins from time to time. So then you have some kind of scale of how many sins is OK or something like that. Maybe how hard you have to resist to be considered "repentant".

We still haven't reached agreement on the lexical meaning of metanoia.

So if you think this isn't fruitful feel free to not respond, so far as I'm concerned we haven't left the starting line. We need to agree on what metanoia means, and you need to clear up this inconsistency. Or so it seems to me.

Much love!

Yes, the Bible does not define repentance of sin as perfectly sinless.
Repentance is not a one time event.
I ask God to forgive me of my sins daily because there are sins of ignorance and I need Gods forgiveness.
It's a matter of the heart Mark.
Do you desire to put sin behind you or do you live in your sins?

Did the harlots continue in prostitution?
Did the publicans continue in stealing?
Repentance is a heart issue.

You don't sin if you repent, but everyone sins from time to time. So then you have some kind of scale of how many sins is OK or something like that
No all sin seperates us from God,
Isaiah 59:2,
- it's your sins that have cut you off from God because of your sins he has turned away and will not listen

God excepts us to strive every day to not sin.
God knows we are imperfect and will fail to be perfectly sinless.
Thus the reason all need a Savior.

I'm saying a man that has made the choice to repent does so with the intention to cease his sin.

There are people who dont understand repentance.
They think they can continue in sin just pray for God to forgive them but have no intention of stopping.
These people do not understand what repentance is.

It's a matter of the heart.

The saved do sin in moments of weakness.
God tells the saved to confess and pray for forgiveness,

1 John 1:9
- but if we confess our sins to God He is faithfull and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness

Does that mean we can continue practicing those sins?
No, we must strive to overcome the areas where we are weak.

Even those who repent by confessing our sins to God sin sometimes,
1John 1:10,
- if we claim we have not sinned we make God a liar and His word is not in us

2Peter 3:18,
- but  grow in grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, to Him be the glory both now and forever, amen

God teaches us that we are to mature become more godly more like Christ as we live for Christ.
Can you be like Christ if you live in sin?

1 Corinthians 11:1,
- imitate me, just as I imitate Christ

Repentance of sins is Biblical

No all sin seperates us from God,
Outside of being reconciled to God in Christ, yes they most certainly do! Only in Christ do we have fellowship with God.

Being reconciled to God in Christ, this means our reconciliation is not based on our behavior, rather, on Christ's offering of His body, and that we share in His death. Being reconciled to God isn't an off and on thing. Jesus Christ is faithful and true, and ever lives to make intercession for us.

You have been taught the doctrine of the imputation of the personal righteousness of Christ to the christian.

This is a heresy,

If this doctrine be true then why does John tell us to confess our sins?

This means the perfect obedience of Christ is transferred to our account then it would not be nessary for us to obey Christ to be saved.
When we sin God would not see the sin but only perfect obedience of Christ.

To the contrary the Bible teaches the need for obedience,
Matthew 7:21 ; Hebrews 5:8-9

If this doctrine be true then we would not be accountable for our sins.
The Bible teaches we are,
Ezekial 18:20 ; 2Corinthians 5:10 ; Colossians 3:25

This false doctrine leads to false security. It leads people to believe they can live any way they want and that God only sees the perfect life of Christ.

Why then are we admonished,
- denying ungodliness and worldly lusts we should live soberly, righteousnessly, and godly in this present world, Titus 2:12

God reconciles:
(brought back into a proper relationship, example: a married couple that seperated because of fighting, they reconcile and live in love with one another as God intended. They come back together in a proper husband and wife relationship)

us when He saves us, washes us with His blood,
Colossians 1:20,
- and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself by Him whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through His blood of His cross

That reconciliation is broken by us never by God when we sin against Him. Thus the need for repentance.

I will answer your question.
I forgot what it was and I can't seem to find it.
Just let me know and I'll answer.
Sorry
Thank you I accept your apology.

I asked you why Jesus rebuked the answer you gave that it was the first son who was obedient.

“The first,” they answered.

Jesus said to them, “Truly I tell you, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him.

The answer is right or wrong whoever claims it.

I all ready answered your question,
Because they were in the same boat as the second son.
They also did not obey Gods commandments.
They gave the correct answer and Jesus was showing them they knew they were gulity condemning themselves.

Jesus got them to condemn themselves by giving the correct answer.

Did you ever answer my question below?
Well I know when one is a sinner and they change, start obeying God by doing His commandments as the first son did that is a person who...

A) has an in penitent heart?
Or
B) has an penitent heart?

Apologies I did not see that one. I really don't see how you could come to that conclusion. It is not about God's commandments in which they were 'perfect' as Paul said in his own case in obeying the law.

Jesus got them to condemn themselves by giving the correct answer.

I don't think we can gather that from what is written. We agree that it does not automatically mean true repentance but could equally mean plain fear. Scripture is silent. If the son was penitent of course he would repent and obey but I do not think the parable is about that.

We are talking about the sort of 'blind' obedience that is required in military situations. It was this sort of thing that God was speaking to me about when I was seeking to be pleasing to Him, I mean desperately. I had the habit of considering whether I agreed with prompting from the Holy Spirit or even weighing up what the cost would be. From His teaching me I began to have 'blind' obedience.

I do not believe God gives direct revelation through the Holy Spirit to individuals today as He did in the old testament and in the first century of the new testament.

If the HS is directly revealing revelation to you, then that is latter day revelation, which contradicts many passages that teaches us Gods revelation to man has been completed.

We now get understanding directly from the word of God not apart from the word.
The Holy Spirit works through us today through His revelation i.e. the Holy Bible.

No more revelation will be revealed. The gospel was(past tense) ONCE(never a second time in the future) FOR ALL TIME DELIVERED(Past tense) unto the saints.

Jude 3,
- beloved when I gave all diligence to write to you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write to you and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was ONCE delivered unto the saints

The Bible teaches us we do not know how we have eternal life by God, speaking directly to us in a miracle.
We know that we are saved by the Holy Spirit's revelation that was WRITTEN down for us.

1John 5:13,
- these things I have  written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God

We get understanding from the word friend not from direct miraculous revelation today.

Ephesians 3:4,
- by which when ye read ye may UNDERSTAND my knowledge in the MYSTERY of Christ

You know the lost do not have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit yet they can read the words of God that the Holy Spirit revealed and know how to be saved?

Did you know you would not even know that there was such a person as the Holy Spirit if the Word had not revealed it to you?

The Holy Spirit points things out to us that need our attention. If you do not believe that then you are having a relationship with a book and not a living faith.

It is not latter day revelation, as there is nothing new under the sun but that which we confirm in scripture.

For most of church history, believers did not have access to the scriptures.

Yes, that is why in the first century they needed the miraculous knowledge of the Holy Spirit.
They had no new testament to read as we have today.

This proves why we do not need direct revelation from the Spirit today because the Holy Spirit has revealed all that we need to know through His revelation i.e The Holy Bible.

It is not latter day revelation,
The way you test if someone has the Holy Spirit is to see how they teach the word.

The Word is the revelation of the Holy Spirit therefore anyone who teaches error is contradicting what the Holy Spirit teaches.

You already have taught a latter day revelation.
Matthew was guided by the Holy Spirit to write the parable of the two sons.

If someone teaches error on this parable they cannot be guided by the Holy Spirit as they are disagreeing with what the Holy Spirit is teaching through Mattews writing.

The Holy Spirit teaches us through the word.
You wrongly divided the parable of the two sons, therefore it was not the Holy Spirit that supposedly guided you in your misinterpretation of the Scriptures.

You are going against the Spirit .

The holiness church movement began in the 1900's in America.
It is a new gospel that is full of error and ignorance.

You do not have miraculous knowledge. You do not have miraculous abilities to heal the sick.

All the holiness churches where I live closed down and quit worshiping when covid started.

If they really have what they claim they have then why were they afraid of a little virus?
A virus is nothing to the power of God.

This proves they are not what they claim to be.

Also you cannot reason with them because they go by emotions on what they think is God guiding them instead of the word.

Why is it the Holy Spirit falls oh them inside their church buildings on Sunday but never out in public?
Why dont they roll around on the ground and shake uncontrollably in restaurants?

This supposed indwelling only occurs inside their four walls.

You need to get out of this religion.
They do not follow the Bible.

You are making more assumptions, as is your way. I have nothing to do with holiness churches. They base their doctrine of a further event in sanctification, on early church teaching pf theosis, but have gone far astray on it till it does not resemble it at all these days, but in the early years they had some of it right but then it got into Pentecostalism and the fake baptism is is all woo.

And who is your authority on the interpretation of the parable - man and what a man taught about it in his commentary without any concern as to whether it was taught in the apostolic years?

I hardly think the other spirit would be leading me astray when it concerns strict obedience to the Lord.

But I am ending this discussion that I let go on too long because that part of scripture is very dear to me because first of all, you cannot tolerate being disagreed with, have been rude, and once more failed to explain further when I said I did not understand your position. You went on to give me a rant that has nothing to do with what I believe so you are a false teacher.

Good bye.

because first of all, you cannot tolerate being disagreed with,
God does not allow private interpretation of His word.
Show me someone other than yourself that interprets the parable of the two sons the way you do?

2Peter 1:20,
- knowing this first that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation

You are being led by your emotions not the Holy Spirit.
Please study the Bible without thinking the Holy Spirit is directly telling you what it says through miraculous intervention.
That is revelation apart from the word not from the word.
