The following verses say that certain things must be done. The first one might be construed by some as applying only to that first 120 in the upper room, but God is no respecter of persons.
"And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but
wait for the promise of the Father, which, saith he, ye have heard of me." Acts 1:4
If we do need to wait, then how long is our wait to be? What do we wait for? Will it be for exactly the same time period and for the same things that each of us waits? Perhaps our wait is dependent on our repentance, which is also mentioned?
"
Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart:
wait, I say, on the LORD."
Psalm 27:14
"
Wait on the LORD, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it."
Psalm 37:34
"Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and
wait on thy God continually."
Hosea 12:3
Then some ask Peter a question. Some might say that only the children so pricked in their hearts for having crucified Jesus need to ask. But... have not all of us sinned and come short of His glory? Should not every person need to ask of God? Surely this
asking is something that we need to do!
"Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren,
what shall we do?"
Acts 2:37
Then when we read Peter's answer, some actions seem to be required:
"Then Peter said unto them,
Repent, and
be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and
ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost."
Acts 2:38
