“Self defense is the number one reason Americans buy firearms. But very few people know how they’ll respond if they actually have to use their gun. And taking a life, even if it’s justified, can have a long-lasting emotional impact on a person.”

Even trained soldiers struggle (read the article) and the average man on the street thinks it’s as simple and easy as turning a light switch on and off?

Our current culture is so far removed from taking a life - even if it is simply killing a fish for supper - that the whole idea of firing a gun to protect livestock seems too horrid to think about. Today's youth would not be able to fight for independence from England to create a United States.
And, I'm not certain that most people would defend their own families from harm, because we are too trained to wait on someone else to save them. That is not the case in my house, and I don't think that is God's will that I permit harm to my family while I have the ability to prevent it.

“When NYPD Police officers are shot at, their return fire only hits the intended target 18 percent of the time.”

82% of the time the Police miss.

But the shakiest gun in the West - sound asleep at night when the hypothetical deranged fiend stealthily breaks into the house intent on raping all of the women folk - is awakened by a man’s threatening voice in the dark, jumps out of bed, rushes to the locked gun cabinet - he is a responsible man, not leaving guns laying around the house where the children might get their hands on them and injure themselves or others playing with them - quickly opens the safe, loads the gun, rushes back upstairs to the bedroom, and fires a shot in the dark that dispatches the criminal and saves the day.

Fantasy.

God couldn’t (or wouldn’t) protect this man and his family?

“Lt. Col. Dave Grossman was an Army Ranger, paratrooper, West Point professor, and is a military historian. Grossman’s book, ‘On Killing,’ was nominated nonfiction Pulitzer Prize. In that book, Grossman analyzes anecdotal material and official studies about soldiers‘ behavior in battle and concludes that until late in the 20th century when training methods were changed, only about one in five men in combat would actively try to kill the enemy. What would the 80% nonkillers do? Few of them were cowards who turned tail and ran. Instead, the nonkillers would fire their weapons harmlessly in the air or refuse to shoot at all.”

A man must protect his family. Can a man protect his family without killing?

Are you familiar with the Desmond Doss story from World War II?

“On October 12, 1945, US Army medic Desmond Doss became the first conscientious objector to be awarded the Medal of Honor.”

This man was braver and truer to his faith than Sergeant York was.

It takes more courage to be a conscientious objector than it does to be a soldier.

I pledge allegiance to …

As a resident alien living in the world, a disciple of Jesus of Nazareth, I pledge my allegiance to no nation of the world.

Just a note: I have read many books in my self-education. It is, however, important to note and remember that there are translations into most languages and dialects. Still, it remains true that there is only one book of Holy Scripture, The Bible! The best and the worst things mankind has done to the Scriptures is the division into chapters and verses.

The letters from Yahovah are this way found to contain guidance only He can give.

“A 61-year-old woman is behind bars after fatally shooting her husband in the head. …

According to an arrest warrant affidavit, Melissa John Byrd, 61, thought she had shot an intruder, but it was her husband. …”

Tragic. She was so certain and used lethal force to end a threat that didn’t actually exist.

“Knowing when most burglaries occur is powerful information. The most common times for break-ins occurs between 10 am and 3 pm. Rather than being guarded by night, most burglars choose the daytime to attempt a break-in, targeting homes when they believe no one will be present.”

The article contains much useful information for non-violent home protection but it doesn’t fit the “tough guy” narrative and the fear mongering that men prone to resorting to violence to solve problems use in “fruitful conversation” with conscientious objectors.

Last on their minds is what should be first on their minds -> God and the Son of God are fully capable of protecting the man and family who trust and rely on them.

This popped up on my Twitter / X feed right after I talked about it online.

“We cannot afford to be beautiful losers ... We need to win. I want to win. I want to reward my friends and crush my enemies.” - Joel Webbon

”This is one of those statements that you don’t want to come out of your mouth as a pastor very often. But I don’t think Jesus is particularly helpful here.” - Joel Webbon

And now another one. Twitter / X knows me better than I would like for it to.

” … While in the store, a man entered and initially pretended to be a customer. However, he soon revealed a gun and forced Jamie and two other women into the back room.

During the horrifying ordeal, the assailant sexually assaulted the other two women. When he turned to Jamie and demanded that she disrobe, she stood firm and refused. In a resolute and unwavering manner, she invoked the name of God and stated, ‘In the name of God, I will not take off my clothes.’

Tragically, the assailant shot Jamie at point-blank range, causing her mortal injuries. However, even in her final moments, Jamie’s faith remained steadfast. She was heard murmuring the Our Father prayer as her life slipped away. The perpetrator was later apprehended and charged with murder, sodomy, and other crimes.”

What was this woman’s witness in the face of evil? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would recognize it.

This woman’s story calls to mind Matthew 16:25 - “For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will find it.”

How did Jesus die? With a sword in his hand, battling to the very end. Right?? (Anyone and everyone who has read the New Testament knows that’s not right.)

How did the Apostles die? With swords in their hands; Jesus did tell them to arm themselves with swords, didn’t he? Against the odds, slashing, stabbing, hacking away - until they were finally overwhelmed by the sheer number of their enemies. Custer’s Last Stand doesn’t hold a candle to the Apostles’ Last Stand. Right??

That’s not what tradition tells us.

Whatever else you do in the face of evil, do not imitate Jesus and the Apostles. Right??

It could cost you your life.

I’m prepared, if it comes to this. You may proceed when ready, Wild Bill from Louisville. You have nothing to fear from me. I’m not armed with the weapons of the world and I’m not afraid to die for living my faith in the one God and in Jesus Messiah.
