@GodsGrace In principle I do practise it; sometimes because of Covid (the Lord Jesus even warned of coming pestilences in Luke 21, just before instituting the Supper) the actual observance is restricted or modified in one way or another.Jesus said DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.
I'm not saying you're a heretic but I'm asking what you think Jesus meant by this...
Thanks.
What is sin indeed? When I was a devout young Catholic altar boy, I believed in that missing mass needlessly was a mortal sin. I did not miss mass for many years unless I was unable. I strived to never cheat on that point.Amadeus,
We have differing doctrine in different denominations - or even just different ideas.
I don't think this comes about by sinning, does it??
How does not doing something a church states become a sin?
Like what for instance?
Do you mean like the CC states that missing Mass is a mortal sin?
Right.@GodsGrace In principle I do practise it; sometimes because of Covid (the Lord Jesus even warned of coming pestilences in Luke 21, just before instituting the Supper) the actual observance is restricted or modified in one way or another.
Hadn't heard of that one.... :)Right.
Remember drive through communion?
Really,,,I wouldn't to practice this...
Agreed. What is sin indeed? When I was a devout young Catholic altar boy, I believed in that missing mass needlessly was a mortal sin. I did not miss mass for many years unless I was unable. I strived to never cheat on that point.
What do we know or believe about God and the things of God? What then do we do with those things. Those things would include doctrines known or believed. God knows these things about each one of us and is able to fairly judge our efforts to practice what we know or believe to be the right Way. It comes back to these words of Jesus:
"But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more." Luke 12:48
God know if we are new convert in the process of learning and just exactly how far we have progressed toward the goals He has placed before us. What is the difference between the "good" thief on the cross and Paul here?
"For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:" II Tim 4:6-7
What did the thief know? What did Paul know? God will judge them based on what they did with all that they had:
"Much is given... much is required"
GREAT QUESTION!Not sure where this should be...
the study of God seemed appropriate (maybe).
Every denomination has some teaching or doctrine that we would not agree with.
How would you explain the difference between an
incorrect teaching
and
a heretical teaching...?
IOW,,,when does an incorrect teaching become heretical?
Thanks.
Are you saying that only that which is against God is heretical?GREAT QUESTION!
Being "wrong" is not the issue, nor is this translation or that translation.
"Anti" God, Christ, and scripture are the issue...which incidentally are One and the same.
In order to be "anti" [or against] God, Christ, or the scriptures, the issue is spiritual (i.e., "the spirit of anti-Christ"). Which can only be determined by discernment...i.e:
1 Corinthians 2:14
"But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned."
With some clarification, yes. That being spiritually against God...for the flesh is contrary to the spirit (Galatians 5:17).Are you saying that only that which is against God is heretical?
Agreed. With some clarification, yes. That being spiritually against God...for the flesh is contrary to the spirit (Galatians 5:17).
Sorry, I just added to my previous comment above.Agreed.
Could we be physically against God?
What about killings of Christian's?
It is a simple thing if you can see it but then again, a complex one if you cannot... What kind of vision do we have of God's whole plan... of the whole of Truth for men?Jesus said DO THIS IN REMEMBRANCE OF ME.

Also read post 209.Sorry, I just added to my previous comment above.
Certainly we can and are against God physically, by the nature of the flesh, which is fallen.
"Killing Christians" is the evidence of being anti-God made manifest in the [physical] world. However, sin is sin, which is forgivable, even the killing of Christians. As for the the Christians that are killed in this way, they are not dead, but alive.
Great post Amadeus! It is a simple thing if you can see it but then again, a complex one if you cannot... What kind of vision do we have of God's whole plan... of the whole of Truth for men?
We remember Him but and then we become one with Jesus and with His Father. As we approach becoming one, how necessary are those reminders?
I must continue growing and moving closer to the reality of God and His Son. Am I going to go back into the wilderness and stay alive by eating the manna? The manna is, "What is it?" The people did not know and later in their murmuring they included murmurs even against that manna, missing that it was really for them in place of the Word of God, which was Life itself.
Caleb and Joshua went on into the Promised Land, but there was for them no more of that wilderness manna... no more of that type or shadow. They had been brought by God to a better place. Have we?
Jesus told his followers, Do this in remembrance of me... for he was leaving them for a time, was he not? Did he not keep his promise and come back to them? Did he not send another Comforter to them?
Consider what they were remembering when they had that supper with Jesus, but consider more closely the Reality which was before them once Jesus had paid the price and opened the Door and sent them another Comforter, which was the Quickening Spirit!
"For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh:
How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?" Heb 9:13-14
Are the dead works only those rituals performed under Moses when the children were in the wilderness for 40 years? Have there been any other works which served to remind that something better was coming? When was it coming? Has it arrived? Is God in man?
"It was therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.
For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us:" Heb 9:23-24
Where are the heavens now...? Up in the sky? Was not Jesus already in heaven before he went the cross?
"And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world,..." John 17:11
And us? More types and remembrances only but no Reality?
Yes, the statement that "God loved us while we were yet sinners", would also include the sin of heresy. Also read post 209.
Agreed.
And you make a good point...
Maybe heresy is a concept that is against God.
This would be more than just an incorrect teaching.
It was decided by others, not me, what constitutes a Christian.
Christianity MUST have a definition, or it will lose all meaning.
Jesus was believed by the Jews to be teaching heresy. Not sure where this should be...

But the Jewish religious leaders were out to lunch. After the destruction of the temple, they doubled down on their "oral traditions" and committed them to writings in the Talmud.Jesus was believed by the Jews to be teaching heresy.
You should be more concerned about what you will say when God and Christ ask you on what grounds did you reject the Trinity? In any event, I've been told for decades by trinitarians that I am not a Christian. Their judgment means nothing to me.
