I find it very sad that the legalistic bunch... compare themselves to the likes of the drunk up the street for their measure of being good....
Or, measuring themselves by themselves. "I think I'm doing well, so I must be OK!"

Much love!

"Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof." (Romans 6:12)

To not allow sin to reign in your mortal body requires YOUR effort.

Your closeness to God is abominable to the Lord if you do so while sinning. He’d rather be away from you.

"But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear." (Isaiah 59:2)
This is true if your reconciliation to God is found in you being well behaved, with righteous thoughts, and all that is good.

My reconciliation to God is found in Christ, alone. I only have relationship with God based on Jesus' obedience.

This is grace, and it is difficult to both understand, and to accept. But it's grace that allows us to walk away from sinning, both in heart and deed.

Much love!

I see inside my soul a well. Settled in the bottom of it are dregs of sin. The fires of affliction boil a dreg to the surface. I see it, confess it to God, and if possible, another, and through godly sorrow, I repent, with the Holy Spirit's power, turning back to God 180%. I take this sin between my fingers, with my spiritual, though very real, hammer and nails, and take it to my cross, which is in the Spirit realm, and I crucify it. This is the daily cross. Luke 9:23 I don't know how many others do it just like this, but it's normal for me and I have been doing it for 21 years. I was taught this through The Divine Plumbline seminar, though it was all Holy Spirit! He is fearfully awesome! The enemy's terrified of Him, with good reason!

Why do some think it is their job to go around telling everyone else what they are doing wrong? Clubbing people over the head with the word! Jesus won't break a bruised reed or snuff out a smoldering wick. Which is one reason why I love Him so!
And I wonder just how well some know Him.

Much love!

You're talking supernatural experience here...through visions or something else... this is probably a personal gift given to you due to all the suffering you have had to endure... He was not able to deal with me in this manner... HE has used the Shepherd and sheep analogy with me... tenderly wooing me.

No it is not. You are the one who has a strange understanding of what Grace is.

Grace is how your old sins were forgiven by faith in Christ. Effort is how you stop sinning.

"Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God." (Romans 6:12-13)

You see? “Let not” means you have to do something moving forward. This requires YOUR effort.

So:

"We then, as workers together with him, beseech you also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain." (2 Corinthians 6:1)

How do you do that? By strength of willpower? By locking yourself in a room?

I do that by trusting that God has already made me free, and then I choose to live in that freedom. That's grace!

Much love!

Why would you want to contradict Scripture? If the Bible says we are to purify ourselves, then that is exactly what it means.
Look again . . .

We are not being instructed to purify ourselves. We are being told that if we have this hope, that we purify ourselves. We just do.

Why would you want to assume my motivations as a desire to contradict Scripture? Don't you know me better than that by now?

Much love!

Oddly when you post... I usually feel condemned.
Thats a good point my friend . Yet i condemn none . ALL i do is make a point . Have i ever once
condemned a person . All i do is just remind us of the biblical pattern and that we must heed too and follow that pattern .

I was not trying to condemn you.... I just feel your CONSTANT reminders to be a bit much... that is all... My life is simple... I live in a relaxed... peace-filled atmosphere... and I am intimately acquainted with my Saviour... I do not desire to displease Him by sinning... and I certainly do not need anyone REMINDING me of how to behave... I just find all this WARNING and REMINDING to be annoying to be honest.
That is how I see this correction topic.... it is RARELY done the biblical way... and far too many Christians are acting in a very arrogant manner.

It's all good.

Oddly when you post... I usually feel condemned.
For example , show me biblically where i was wrong in that statement i posted , or any other statement .
ALL i am doing is provoking us to learn the true pattern well . Get refreshed back in that bible .
And warning against sin and error , is not wrong either . Yet , i am mean to none . I just dont accept false doctrine .
Out of great love i simply exhort the people . So think about this . You are loved and will be prayed for my friend .

Sorry Barney boy... but as you can read above... I had my "Spend the day with a legalist" yesterday... Didn't have much fun...so I'm out. But y'all can start your day knowing that FERRIS has received great congratulations and salutations. It's going to be a GOOD DAY!

I can less who you spent your time with, it's a fact the majority of those who say they're Christians use grace as an excuse for sin. I really don't care that you call it legalism, although it's not. The simple fact is that the scriptures have never taught to use grace as an excuse to sin. When a person who is a Christian and belongs to the true church and he/she is committing sin and is unrepentant 1 Corinthians chapter 5 tells how the true church is to handle such situations.

@Addy I’m kind of behind reading all these posts, but so far, I haven’t seen anyone here being legalistic, unless I’ve missed it. I’m pretty sure we all are in agreement that no one could ever be worthy of being saved by our Lord; we could never do anything to merit such a gift. … because it is Jesus Himself who makes us worthy. It is He that justifies and makes us righteous. Jesus Christ died for the ungodly … just as we are. jb
