You've worded in a nutshell - thanks.Cerinthus, a Gnostic from the first century, taught that Jesus was a mere man, and that the Christ spirit joined him at baptism and left before his crucifixion. The Apostle John countered these teachings by emphasizing that Jesus is the Christ and that the Word became flesh (John 1:14). John's writings strongly assert the unity of Jesus and Christ to refute Gnostic separation. Today, similar teachings can be found in certain groups like Jehovah's Witnesses, who view Jesus and Michael the Archangel in a somewhat comparable manner.
Hi. In this thread I was only focusing on Cerinthus- the gnostic that encountered John the Apostle, and whom John wrote against.Question, do gnostics belive we are all gods or part of the divine?
Gnostics generally do not believe that we are all gods in the traditional sense, but rather that we are part of the divine and have the potential to return to a higher state of spiritual knowledge and enlightenment through gnosis, or secret knowledge2.Hi. Gnostics varied in beliefs. I believe there were 50+ sects of gnostics, and many did. I can't say for sure if all did. I dont think we know.

Cerinthus was an early Gnostic teacher whose beliefs diverged significantly from mainstream Christianity. Here are some key aspects of his teachings:Hi Johann,
We just dont know what Cerinthus believed about that. He may have. John did not address it.
Paul spoke of those with what they falsely called knowledge. We sure see that in the cults today.
I think your post was in reply to Jericho's question? @Jericho

Gnosticism is rife @Jericho-just read some of the posts or follow some interactions. There is a person I follow on social media that beleives this. At first, I thought he was just mixing New Age with Christianity as I didn't know anything about Gnosticism. But they've talked before about "gnosis" and divine wisdom. So, I'm fairly certain they're gnostic. I really didn't think those guys were around anymore as we don't hear much about gnosticism anymore.
Yes, there are still full blown gnostics as well as the cults with pieces of gnosticism. JWs are one example with quite a bit. Mormons another..There is a person I follow on social media that beleives this. At first, I thought he was just mixing New Age with Christianity as I didn't know anything about Gnosticism. Just to add that when John said THEY WENT FROM US BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT OF US, he wasn't speaking about those that "were never really saved ", as some OSAS believers Iike to state...will add more quotes another day. need a break :)
Some are here to try to correct. Not many takers? Know who is at your door. Plant a seed. Educate others.
LOL!!"He had to become a perfect man and yet not lose his continuity of life. His life-force was not to be extinguished but would be transferred to the ovum of the virgin girl, Mary." WT 2-15-82 p. 7
WHERE DOES THE BIBLE SAY THAT???
if you actually think about that one, that would make Michael the father of Jesus, wouldn't it? Union and Mary's egg (ovum) and Michaels' impersonal life force?
Isn't the latter normally the father of the child?
Does this make Michael God now or YHWH grandpop?
Oh my head..
lol it's a train wreck! meanwhile this nutbag posts this on a diff thread --LOL!!
Go easy on yourself!
HAHAHA upside down world! nutbagAunty Jane- We hold no doctrines in common with Christendom....is what that means. All our beliefs are based on the Bible rather than on the teachings of an apostate church founded by a pagan Emperor over 300 years after Christ died. None of Christendom’s beliefs originate in the Bible.
Yes I agree. They were being battled then and still today.Just to add that when John said THEY WENT FROM US BECAUSE THEY WERE NOT OF US, he wasn't speaking about those that "were never really saved ", as some OSAS believers Iike to state...
John was speaking about gnostics.
I keep hearing from them that they teach from the bible.Yes I agree. They were being battled then and still today.
JWs put a big emphasis on gnosis aka "accurate knowledge"- & so much of it is just made up and their teachings change constantly.
