Deuteronomy 10:16-18
[16] Circumcise therefore the foreskin of your heart, and be no more stiffnecked. [17] For the Lord your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward: [18] He doth execute the judgment of the fatherless and widow, and loveth the stranger, in giving him food and raiment.

.
Jas 1:27 Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

who are the fatherless in the Throne of Heaven's view? are they not those who are not born again and can't call God the Father (Abba)? who are the widows in the view of the Throne in Heaven, isn't it those who are betrothed to death, and not the Groom the everlasting Life we know to be Jesus? and who are those without food and raiment? aren't they those who need feed of Spirit, hence the Truth of God the Word of God, aren't they who need to be covered by the Blood of Jesus that their Maker sees them through His Beloved Son and not their own sin and shame?

if you want to talk about God's love and compassion there is where to look, there is plenty of need there. and those yahoos who call themselves don't have what is required to do those things, but they can satisfy each others desire to feel good, you know, warm and fuzzy. Those who are obedient to their own views and agendas of what Christianity is, are not obedient to the Lord. What those who call themselves pretend to do, cannot do what requires the Life of Christ to do. and to do that which is mentioned in Deut 10:16-18 requires the Life of Christ to do.

You should have gone to the end of the Chapter, for as they were in Bondage in Egypt, which brought upon the sons and daughters of Jacob great hardship, and sorrow's, due to the Tyranny of the Egyptians, there were many, Widows, and poor and Orphans, and Fatherless as God declared they were also strangers in that Land, these were the reasons God Instructed them to not look down on these. Then and Now, which I do fall short at!! Sin is bondage, Sin is Egypt, we are all Guilty of allowing Egypt into our lives, so as the Israelite's were so were we, and as Our Savior reached out to those, so should we. He is our Example. But as a side note who do we decide to help, we live in a town where there are many who stand on corners, and in front of truck stops, and in front of stores, some that I have had conversations with, and some will tell you that they rake in on an average of 300 dollars a day, from the kindness of others, they live a nomadic life style supported by people that fell sorry for them. I have been homeless, and I never had the lack of pride to put my hand out, I always found a way to regain a foothold, and start over, But not without the Grace of God. Three time,s God put my wife and I in this homeless situation, and I would not trade it for anything, because we learned to Trust Him. The first time I saw an Older Couple living in a little trailer, and I said to my wife, How do people Live like that, Two months later, He Showed Me! Arrogance and Pride!!!!!! Great lesson!!! anyway I am off track. I Pray for God to revel to me those in need!

I can relate, hence the need I told you about. its good to walk away and return fresh, it won't be the only time.

James 1:27 is not complete- read 2:1-8 For someone placed a Chapter change before the fullness of the statement was finished!

feeding the poor may be nice but so does secular governments like the US, they house cloth feed and provide healthcare for the poor. is that a religious fulfillment?
If the people kept what God had Instructed, the Government would not have to intervene, But the people of this age reject what God Instituted. Also the Government has found that they have a control on those they KEEP!
So no it is not a Religious fulfillment, It is the Lack of, by believers!

Isaiah 55:1-3
[1] Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. [2] Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. [3] Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David.

you had to ask didn't you LOL "How do people Live like that," I know exactly how that works, been there done that more than once and lost the t-shirts.

anyway, its not this life that is important to the Lord, He showed us that in the flood of Noah. He will use this Life to get you to pay attention to the Life He has given you. hence its about Him getting you through a thing and situation and or a circumstance beyond your control, even the experience of death. if you look at Israel when the Lord their God would interact with them they where almost always in a situation beyond their control.

anyway as far as those standing in streets all that matters is that if you are compelled to give them do so. I've known those who run soup/kitchen in town and the owner when he was still with us would call many of them professionals. when I ran the food bank some years back you could tell, and some would even be proud of that fact. now if I see one not begging but obviously in need I give them if compiled, like a ten or a twenty if on me. now a days you can't buy gum for a buck. or one could give to a soup kitchen since they have the time to do the work.

Your absolutely right, I got so long winded with my last post I just shut up. One Instructor once said that if you give out of the abundance of you Heart, and the one you gave to used it for unnecessary need, then they would be held accountable for what they did with your Gift!

I do believe the Lord says this on that:

Mat_7:6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

because He's not going to give you to give to those who are not His, so withholding according to His Judgement isn't a sin or incorrect.

but if you're thinking of:

Eze 3:18 When I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; and thou givest him not warning, nor speakest to warn the wicked from his wicked way, to save his life; the same wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. 19 Yet if thou warn the wicked, and he turn not from his wickedness, nor from his wicked way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul. 20 Again, When a righteous man doth turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumblingblock before him, he shall die: because thou hast not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteousness which he hath done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at thine hand.

then it would have to be one should give what ever the Lord gives you of Himself to give to His. and leave in His hands to withhold according to His Judgement.

and of course all of that is if I understand you correctly.

anyway back to experiencing poverty if I may, in the little I've done in such I've noticed that its those who have experienced poverty that feel compelled or called to such duties. its hard to feel for those not like one's self, or relate without the same experiences. if its in your heart big guy and the Lord lead you that way there is certainly no shame in it. the needy need those who understand their need. this is true about the belly of the flesh and it's true in the case of those souls that are hungry and destitute that feel the need. it takes the appropriate food to feed and sustain the life that is being lived.
