He doesn’t give birth to everyone’s spirit that way, by reading a bible.

Gods word is Alive and Active and is everywhere, His Spirit does the birthing not the Bible.
The fundamental issue with your statement lies in the misunderstanding of the role of Scripture and the work of the Holy Spirit in the process of spiritual rebirth.

Role of Scripture: While it’s true that the Bible itself doesn’t cause spiritual rebirth, Scripture is the primary means by which God’s truth is revealed, and it is through the hearing and understanding of this Word that the Holy Spirit works. Romans 10:17 says, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (NKJV). The Bible is a crucial instrument through which the Spirit moves, not a passive or irrelevant text.

Role of the Holy Spirit: The Holy Spirit indeed plays the pivotal role in regeneration (John 3:5-6), but He often works through the proclamation of the Word of God to bring about new life. As 1 Peter 1:23 says, “having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever” (NKJV).

While you rightly points out that it’s the Spirit, not merely reading the Bible, that causes spiritual rebirth, you underplay the vital role that Scripture plays in communicating the gospel-the message through which the Spirit brings about regeneration.

@Bruce-Leiter

I still don't see why you object to doctrine. Doctrines are to me beliefs based solely on the Bible. When we come to believe them, God works in our heart the new birth by the Holy Spirit through Jesus' death and resurrection. Doctrines aren't bad unless they're based on other ideas than the Scripture.

I don’t object to doctrine, that’s where I grow and mature in Christ.

My becoming Born Again, is very different to yours...

I became Born Again having never read a Bible...

We became Born Again very differently.

We are Born Again Gods way, not mans way.

You must be Born Again to see the Kingdom Of God!....

Amen! In Jesus Name.
I'm curious. How then did you become born again?

By the Spirit Of God, the Spirit testifies with our spirit that we are Gods children.

I was Born Again exactly how the written word explains it, by divine revelation.

Only the Living Spirit Of God can birth our spirit into his...doctrine, very sorry, cannot.

Just as his written word says.

And your point is @Johann to the above post?

We are Born Again by divine revelation..not doctrine...doctrine explains how we become Born Again.

Just as Gods written word says..would you agree?

How did you become Born Again?..

Maybe you can explain how doctrine brings our spirit Alive?

How does the Bible say we are born again?
And that's where 1 Peter 1:23 comes in to connect word and Spirit in the new birth. Peter says, “You have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable [that's the Spirit of God], through the living and abiding word of God.” Born of the Spirit, born through the word.

And that's where 1 Peter 1:23 comes in to connect word and Spirit in the new birth. Peter says, “You have been born again, not of perishable seed but of imperishable [that's the Spirit of God], through the living and abiding word of God.” Born of the Spirit, born through the word.
Very simple-since I was a young lad listening to the proclamation of the Scripture.

1 Peter 1:23 (NKJV)

“Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever.”
This verse directly states that the new birth comes through the imperishable Word of God. The Greek phrase διὰ λόγου Θεοῦ (dia logou Theou) shows that the rebirth happens through the agency of the Word.
James 1:18 (NKJV)

“Of His own will He brought us forth by the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of His creatures.”
Here, ἐγέννησεν ἡμᾶς (egennēsen hēmas) means “He gave birth to us,” and it happens διὰ λόγου ἀληθείας (dia logou alētheias)—through the Word of Truth, indicating that the Word is instrumental in the spiritual birth.
Romans 10:17 (NKJV)

“So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Faith, which leads to salvation, is produced by hearing the Word of God. The Greek word ἀκοή (akoē) means both hearing and the message heard, showing the connection between listening to the Word and the birth of faith.
Ephesians 1:13 (NKJV)

“In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.”
The word of truth here refers to the gospel, and hearing this message is a key element that leads to trust in Christ and salvation. The Greek phrase ἀκούσαντες τὸν λόγον τῆς ἀληθείας (akousantes ton logon tēs alētheias) emphasizes hearing the gospel message.
John 6:63 (NKJV)

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”
Jesus declares that His words are life-giving. The Greek term ῥήματα (rhēmata), meaning "spoken words," highlights the life-giving power of hearing and receiving the words of Christ.
John 5:24 (NKJV)

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.”
This passage confirms the transformative power of hearing Jesus’ word and believing. The phrase ὁ ἀκούων τὸν λόγον μου (ho akouōn ton logon mou) refers to hearing and responding to Jesus’ message as essential to salvation and spiritual rebirth.
1 Thessalonians 2:13 (NKJV)

“For this reason we also thank God without ceasing, because when you received the word of God which you heard from us, you welcomed it not as the word of men, but as it is in truth, the word of God, which also effectively works in you who believe.”
The Word of God is described here as actively working within those who believe. Λόγος Θεοῦ (logos Theou) is not just a message but something powerful and life-changing when received in faith.
Additional Verses Highlighting the Role of the Word in Spiritual Renewal
John 3:5-6 (NKJV)

“Jesus answered, ‘Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.’”
While this passage focuses on the role of the Holy Spirit in regeneration, it complements the idea that the Spirit works through the Word to bring new life. The Spirit uses the Word as the means to initiate and sustain this rebirth.
Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
The λόγος Θεοῦ (logos Theou) is described as alive and active, showing that it penetrates deep into the person, capable of producing spiritual change and renewal.
Colossians 1:5-6 (NKJV)

“Because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard before in the word of the truth of the gospel, which has come to you, as it has also in all the world, and is bringing forth fruit, as it is also among you since the day you heard and knew the grace of God in truth.”
The gospel is described as bearing fruit, meaning it leads to spiritual growth and renewal in those who hear and believe.

Thank you.

This is your testimony on how you believe you became Born Again.

That is not how God says we are Born Of The Spirit, with respect.

I won’t respond to the rest of your post as I find it unnecessary to do so.

My question is how does one know they have been Born Again of incorruptible seed...by what means?

Once we have become Born Of The Spirit, which is the Living spirit birth....we then know that the seed we were Born Again of is incorruptible/ imperishable and liveth and abideth forever in our spirit/ heart.

We have been Born Of God’s seed.that seed is a Living seed, His Name is the Holy Spirit, who has taken up residence in our spirit / heart.

Why continue questioning and denying the God-breathed Scriptures, without testing your experience in the light of the Word you seem unaware of? Why not dive into the Scriptures yourself and see if your experience of rebirth aligns with what is written? As 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NKJV) says, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Instead of relying solely on experience, test everything according to Scripture, just as 1 Thessalonians 5:21 (NKJV) instructs: “Test all things; hold fast what is good.” Seek the truth in God's Word to ensure your experience is in line with what He has revealed.

Please explain its meaning, as you say you have been Born Of incorruptible seed, by what means?

In what way/manner did you "receive" divine revelation apart from Scripture?

This should be interesting.

J.
Johann, I have explained that to you many times.

I believe I am now being led to discuss no more with you, I will exit the thread.

J.
Johann, i am now going to walk away from our discussion, I have explained that becoming Born Again is by divine revelation.as the written word explains.

I will leave you with this scripture. God Bless as you journey with the Lord.

Romans 8

King James Version

8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

I don’t agree with your intellectual understanding of scripture.sorry Johann that’s all I see from you, I don’t mean any disrespect by it, just voicing what I read...

Does he, how does he bring about a new life through the proclamation of the word?

That’s not how God says we are Born Again.

Scripture cannot communicate to you how we are Born Again of imperishable seed.

Whose imperishable seed has your spirit received, when you became Born Again?

You don’t need any scripture reading to become Born Again.

The work of the Holy Spirit?

How does the written word say we are Born Again?

By reading the written word?

No it doesn’t, we are Born Again exactly as the written word says...by divine revelation...do you understand what that means?

No it’s not, Gods Living word is revealed to our spirit by divine revelation.

Not doctrine.

Scripture plays no part in our spirit becoming Born Again.
Dear friend, how do you know these things? What is the basis for you beliefs?

Well it is knowing the doctrine of soteriology that cause4s one to turn to Jesus to be saved. Doctrine is vital if we wish to live righteously.

as I have told all my bible students over the decades,

1. right living come from right thinking
2. Right thinking comes from right knowledge (doctrine)
3. Right knowledge comes from the Word of God!

Spiritua;lity is an individualized journey, but if you wish to walk in right paths, you have to know what God demands of you.

Doctrine simply defined as Gods thinking. on a matter

My friend I didn’t find my belief in the Bible, God came to me by divine revelation, I have posted scripture my friend...are you saying that we aren’t Born Again by divine revelation?

Do you actually think your body is Born Again?

How did God birth your spirit into his?

Do you understand what divine revelation is?

How would your spirit know it was Born Again if not by divine revelation?

Jesus answered, "I tell you the truth, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit.

Do you understand the Living spirit birth?

Doctrine does not birth your spirit ...only the Holy Spirit can do that.

Do you understand this doctrine?

John 3:8

King James Version

8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

We are Born Of The Spirit my friend, doctrine can’t save your spirit from eternal damnation....our spirit must receive the Living word of God, which comes by His Living Witness His Living Holy Spirit.....

Who testifies with our spirit my friend that we are Gods children?

What’s that if it’s not by divine revelation?

Commentary.

Born of the Spirit in our spirit

When a baby is born, it’s born of its parents with the human life of its parents. To be born again, or regenerated, simply means we’re born of God with God’s life.

In John 3:6, Jesus explained to Nicodemus how this can be:

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

Note 2 on this verse in the New Testament Recovery Version helps us see what born of the Spirit is spirit means:

“The first Spirit mentioned here is the divine Spirit, the Holy Spirit of God, and the second spirit is the human spirit, the regenerated spirit of man. Regeneration is accomplished in the human spirit by the Holy Spirit of God with God’s life, the uncreated eternal life. Thus, to be regenerated is to have the divine, eternal life (in addition to the human, natural life) as the new source and new element of a new person.”

Our human spirit is the deepest part of our being. It was created in a particular way by God with the ability to contact and receive Him. When we believed in Jesus, our human spirit was born of the divine Spirit. Now we have the life of God!

God doesn’t want ethical people who don’t have His life. He wants human beings to become His children, begotten with His life.

Being born again has nothing to do with resolving to be a better person or turning over a new leaf. It has everything to do with being born of the Spirit in our spirit with the life of God.

Our spirit can only be regenerated by divine revelation....just as Gods word says.

Doctrine is VERY important.

. The Doctrine of God (Theology Proper)
Monotheism: God is one (Deuteronomy 6:4, Isaiah 44:6).
Trinity: God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Matthew 28:19, 2 Corinthians 13:14).
Attributes of God: His nature is eternal, omniscient, omnipotent, holy, loving, etc. (Psalm 90:2, Isaiah 46:9-10, 1 John 4:8).

2. The Doctrine of Christ (Christology)
Incarnation: Jesus is both fully God and fully man (John 1:1, 14; Philippians 2:5-7).
Atonement: Jesus’ death on the cross was for the salvation of humanity (Romans 3:24-25, 1 Peter 3:18).
Resurrection: Christ rose from the dead (1 Corinthians 15:3-4, Luke 24:6-7).
Second Coming: Jesus will return (Acts 1:11, Revelation 22:12).

3. The Doctrine of the Holy Spirit (Pneumatology)
Personhood of the Spirit: The Holy Spirit is a person, not just a force (John 14:26, Romans 8:26).
Work of the Spirit: He convicts, regenerates, indwells, empowers, and sanctifies believers (John 16:8-11, Titus 3:5, Romans 8:9).

4. The Doctrine of Man (Anthropology)
Creation: Humans are created in the image of God (Genesis 1:26-27).
Sin: All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23, Genesis 3).
Salvation: People are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9).

5. The Doctrine of Salvation (Soteriology)
Justification: By faith, believers are declared righteous (Romans 5:1, Galatians 2:16).
Regeneration: The new birth through the Holy Spirit (John 3:3-5, Titus 3:5).
Sanctification: The ongoing process of becoming more Christlike (1 Thessalonians 4:3, Hebrews 10:14).
Glorification: The final redemption of believers’ bodies (Romans 8:30, Philippians 3:21).

6. The Doctrine of the Church (Ecclesiology)
Body of Christ: The Church is the body of believers (1 Corinthians 12:27, Ephesians 1:22-23).
Mission: The Church is called to spread the gospel (Matthew 28:19-20, Acts 1:8).
Ordinances: Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are observed by believers (Matthew 28:19, 1 Corinthians 11:23-26).

7. The Doctrine of the Scriptures (Bibliology)
Inspiration: The Bible is divinely inspired (2 Timothy 3:16-17, 2 Peter 1:20-21).
Inerrancy: Scripture is without error in its original manuscripts (Psalm 19:7, John 17:17).
Authority: The Bible is the final authority in matters of faith and practice (Isaiah 40:8, Hebrews 4:12).

8. The Doctrine of Last Things (Eschatology)
Second Coming: Jesus will return in glory (Revelation 1:7, Matthew 24:30).
Resurrection of the Dead: Both the righteous and the wicked will be raised (John 5:28-29, 1 Corinthians 15:52).
Judgment: There will be a final judgment (Matthew 25:31-46, Revelation 20:11-15).
Eternal Life and Eternal Punishment: Believers will inherit eternal life, and the wicked eternal punishment (John 3:16, Matthew 25:46).

While the Bible does not list doctrines by number, it clearly presents multiple key teachings or doctrines that form the foundation of the Christian faith. These include the nature of God, the person and work of Jesus Christ, the role of the Holy Spirit, human nature, salvation, the Church, Scripture, and the end times. Each of these areas includes numerous sub-doctrines that are derived from Scripture and are essential for understanding the message of the Bible and Christian theology.
