It was to one disciple- John alone. And He did that to obey the law! He fulfilled all parts of the law required of HIm, even concerning turning the care of His widowed Mother to one.

John is the beloved disciple (Jn132:23) who lay on Jesus' breast at the last supper. We are all beloved disciples of Jesus and therefore John represents us all.
Jesus wasn't making a last minute arrangement when he was on the cross; sort of "Whoops! I forgot about mum."
He could have arranged for John to look after Mary well before.
No, he was telling us something profound, that Mary is to be our spiritual mother.

Your language skills are atrocious.
  • Singular v Plural: disciple v disciples. John is THE beloved disciple, singular.
  • Indefinite v Definite Article, a v THE. John is not one (among many) disciples who are a beloved of Jesus. John is THE beloved disciple.
  • Singular Possessive v Plural Possessive, YOUR v OUR. Mary is not 'our' mother. The text reads this is YOUR mother.

No, he was telling us something profound, that Mary is to be our spiritual mother.

We are not supposed to change the words of God. "Spiritual" is not a qualifier in the text of mother.

The mental gymnastics you undertake to support your doctrine is astounding!

Funny how people are happy to believe that the woman (singular) in Rev 12 represents the people of Israel (plural) but not that John (singular) in Jn 19 cannot represent all the beloved of Jesus (plural) in John 19.

And remember that the offspring of the woman (Mary) in Rev 12 are those who keep the commandments of God and bear testimony to Jesus. The woman (Mary) cannot literally be the mother of those who keep the commandments of God and bear testimony to Jesus so she must be their spiritual mother.

You, and many others cloud, your understanding by this antipathy to Mary

If he had said John then it would only apply to John

but it says disciple so it applies to all disciples

why would she only be His spiritual mother and not disciples?

. . .Then saith he to the disciple: Behold thy mother! And from that hour
that disciple took her unto his own home.
_

According to one commentator the word for take lambano has different meaning according to what is "taken", when the word lambano is associated with a person, it means to receive someone personally— to welcome, accept, or believe that person. In John’s Gospel, this third sense is often used to express someone welcoming Christ in faith (Jn. 1:12; 5:43; 13:20)…..

….. Consequently, when the text says the beloved disciple "took" Mary, this does not mean he took her on a journey to a specific place. Rather, it denotes a personal welcoming of Mary into his life. Recall that Jesus just put the beloved disciple into a new son-mother relationship with Mary ("Behold, your mother!"). Thus, the beloved disciple’s "taking" (lambano) Mary points to his joyful acceptance of Our Lady in this new relationship as he welcomes her as his mother….

…what does it mean that "the disciple took her to his own home"? Though the last words are commonly translated "to his own home," the expression in the original Greek more literally means, "into his own" or "into the things that were his own." In fact, John’s Gospel uses this expression to describe Jesus’ own people (1:11), His own sheep (10:4), or His own disciples (13:1). Especially in John 13, the words "his own" describe a deep, personal communion with His disciples.

Therefore, the account of the beloved disciple receiving Mary into "his own" does not likely refer to him merely taking her to his house. John’s Gospel is concerned with something more profound than where Mary went to live. Rather, the beloved disciple taking Mary into "his own" points to something deeper, something more spiritual. The beloved disciple welcomes Mary into a profound, personal communion, fully embracing the mother of Jesus as his own mother. He welcomes Mary as one of "his own."

We also should welcome Mary as one of "our own".

to his disciples he says “behold thy mother”!
WHILE POINTING TO THOSE WHO SAT BEFORE HIM . JESUS was not pointing to mary when HE said BEHOLD THY MOTHER .
HE said ANYONE who does the will of GOD , the same is my mother , my brethren , my brother .
Ya just twisted the heck out of that scripture . THEY said , YOUR MOTHER stands outside with your brethren .
JESUS did not say ALAS SHE DOES. HE SAID WHO IS MY MOTHER ...............
Of course Mary was JESUS birth mother . BUT HE WAS MAKING A POINT . ONE THAT THE RCC KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT .
And concerning JOHN , THIS IS ALSO TRUTH .
ANY woman who does the will of GOD is our mother . ANY woman .
Just like any brother who does the will of GOD is my brother .
Just like any sister who does the will of GOD is my sister .

youre at the wrong verse

Behold thy mother!

What does Behold in scripture mean?

A marvelous thing!
A miraculous action!
A wonder!
An awe inspiring declaration!

Behold thy mother!

John 19:26-27
When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! Then saith has he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.

Jesus is not asking John to care for His Mary, if so He would have said so, he is not even speaking to John, scripture says He is addressing the disciple, therefore it applies to all disciples.

Jesus is making Mary spiritual mother to all disciples! And all disciples take Her into thier home, And if the apostle John needs a spiritual mother so do we!

What is the family of God without a mother? The mother is the heart of the family! Jesus said I will not leave you orphans! Jn 14:18 He gave Mary to be the mother of one disciple then He does so for all disciples!

As eve was the mother of all the living in the first creation, gen 3:20 so Mary is the mother of all those who live in Christ and the new creation! Behold, I make all things new!

Rev 12:17 our spiritual mother!

I asked are you a disciple refering to Jn 19:26-27
If you’re a disciple you must be baptized, submit to the authority of the apostles and accept Mary as you’re mother According to scripture

The sacrament of baptism is the way to enter the new covenant church and be in union with Christ and communion with a God and each other?
