"For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart."
This verse underscores the power and penetrating ability of the word of God, likened to a sharp sword.

Matthew 4:1-11:
Which means what?

How would you know that the word of God is Alive and Active?

All I’m asking Johan are you Born Again of The Spirit?....

Yes or no?....because we are definitely understanding Gods word very differently.

Are you in the Spirit?

The written word doesn’t cut it...without the Living witness of Gods Living Holy Spirit?
Wrong again-the "written word doesn't cut it?" I would say without the studying the written word no one is indwelt by the Holy Spirit.

Joshua 1:8:

"Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."

Malachi 3:16:

"Then those who feared the LORD talked with each other, and the LORD listened and heard. A scroll of remembrance was written in his presence concerning those who feared the LORD and honored his name."
New Testament References:
Matthew 4:4:

"Jesus answered, 'It is written: Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"
Matthew 5:18:

"For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished."
Luke 4:16-17:

Luke 24:44-45:

"He said to them, 'This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.' Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures."

2 Timothy 3:16-17:

"All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

James 1:22:

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says."

These references underscore the importance of engaging with and obeying the Scriptures in both the Old and New Testaments.

Ok, I can see you are evading my questions...that’s why we aren’t understanding each other...no problem...I will leave it there as we are most definitely on different levels of Spiritual understanding.

We should be one with God in Spirit...I pray that you know the Love Of God in your spirit @Johann

Paul said, "He who is joined to the Lord is one spirit" (1 Cor.6:17), not one soul. The resurrected Lord is the life-giving Spirit (15:45); therefore, His union with the believers is His union with the believers' spirit.

God Bless my friend.

Scriptures on Becoming Wise
Old Testament:
Proverbs 1:7:

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction."
Key Concept: Wisdom begins with a reverential awe and respect for God.
Proverbs 2:6:

"For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding."
Key Concept: Wisdom is a divine gift from God, imparted through His word.
Proverbs 3:5-6:

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight."
Key Concept: Trusting in God and seeking His guidance leads to wise living.
Proverbs 4:7:

"The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have, get understanding."
Key Concept: Pursuing wisdom should be a priority, even if it requires sacrifice.
Psalm 119:98-100:

"Your commands are always with me and make me wiser than my enemies. I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes. I have more understanding than the elders, for I obey your precepts."
Key Concept: Meditating on and obeying God's word imparts wisdom.
New Testament:
James 1:5:

"If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you."
Key Concept: Wisdom is available to all who ask God in faith.
Colossians 2:3:

"In Christ are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge."
Key Concept: True wisdom is found in Jesus Christ.
Ephesians 1:17:

"I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better."
Key Concept: The Holy Spirit imparts wisdom and revelation to know God more intimately.
2 Timothy 3:15:

"And how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus."
Key Concept: The Scriptures provide wisdom that leads to salvation.
Matthew 7:24:

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock."
Key Concept: Practicing Jesus' teachings results in wisdom and a firm foundation.
Characteristics of Wisdom:
Old Testament:
Proverbs 8:12-14:

"I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion. To fear the Lord is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech. Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have insight, I have power."
Key Concepts: Prudence, knowledge, discretion, sound judgment, insight, and power.
Proverbs 9:10:

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding."
Key Concepts: Fear of the Lord, knowledge of God.
Proverbs 11:2:

"When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom."
Key Concept: Humility.
Ecclesiastes 7:12:

"Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this: Wisdom preserves those who have it."
Key Concept: Preservation and protection.
New Testament:
James 3:13-17:

"Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such 'wisdom' does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere."
Key Concepts: Purity, peace-loving, consideration, submission, mercy, good fruit, impartiality, sincerity.
Colossians 4:5-6:

"Be wise in the way you act toward outsiders; make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone."
Key Concepts: Graceful speech, seizing opportunities, wisdom in actions.

Conclusion:
Scripture provides a rich understanding of how one becomes wise and the characteristics that define wisdom. Wisdom begins with a reverence for God, is imparted by the Holy Spirit, and is nurtured through meditating on and obeying God's Word. The characteristics of wisdom include humility, purity, peace, consideration, mercy, and sincere faith. These traits are evident both in the teachings of the Old Testament and the New Testament, underscoring a consistent biblical theme that true wisdom is rooted in a relationship with God and a life that reflects His character.

1 Peter 5:6Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, Ephesians 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. James 4:6 But he giveth more grace.

What does it mean to be obedient to the Holy Spirit?
We must say yes to the Spirit when He prompts us to take a certain action or say a certain word. We must give mental assent to the Spirit's direction, and then we must actually obey His prompting and follow through by doing or saying what He has called us to do or say

www.biblegateway.com › passage › versi...

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance,

Romans 8

King James Version

8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you
.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Faith is also a gift from God...He gifts us the faith to believe in our spirit, that is where we need to be Born Again.

We know God in our spirit, via His Living Holy Spirit....reading scripture does not make one’s spirit Born Again....we have the Holy Spirit indwelling our spirit, he brings Gods truth to understand it in our spirit.

God is Spirit..we communicate with Him via His witness the Holy Spirit...a Born Again is a spiritual child of God.

Hence being Born Of The Spirit..we know God in our spirit....

Just as His word says we must be Born Again....our spirit is Born Again....

In the same way that repentance is granted by God (Acts 11:18; 2 Tim. 2:25), faith is also a supernatural gift of God. Ephesians 2:8–9 affirms this: “By grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

2 Peter 1:3-4

King James Version

3 According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:
4 Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
Faith to believe what....? The word of the gospel. The engrafted word....that is the imperishable seed, sister. The word. Sown/engrafted in our hearts by the Holy Spirit.

How would you know that Jesus existed without God given faith?

Who witnesses Gods truth to you. Where do you understand God’s written word?

Who brings you to spiritually understanding Gods written word?

Where do you know that Jesus existed ..just in the written word?

Where else do you need to know all about Jesus?

Who leads you through scripture?

The imperishable seed is the Living Holy Spirit?

He is Gods Living Witness..where does he witness Gods truth to us? @Lizbeth ?

Are you saying the Bible is the Living word of God?

you saying the Gospel is the imperishable seed.

Why does Gods word not say that?

He doesn’t say we are Born Of The Gospel..that’s confusing.

We are Born Again of imperishable seed that liveth and abideth forever.

Liveth and abideth where in us?

Where does this imperishable seed liveth and abideth?

We are Born Of The Spirit...how would we know that?

People also ask
What does the Bible mean by imperishable seed?
This being said to lead us to the necessity of being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible (i.e. that seed that is not subject to decay, deterioration and death— a seed that lives forever). This is the same seed by which Jesus was conceived

We are Born Again of Gods seed are we not?

Gods Living seed..who is the Living Holy Spirit.

How else would we know we are Born Again if not by Gods Living Witness His Living Holy Spirit?

People also ask
Where in the Bible does it say the Holy Spirit is a witness?
In Romans 8:16, though, Paul says, “The Spirit himself bears witness,” meaning that there is a special witness of the Holy Spirit to assure us that we are the children of God.

Is there any conversion testimony in the New Testament in which someone came to faith apart from hearing the word of God and coming to faith as a result of hearing that word? Whether it was spoken by Jesus, or by one of His apostles, or yet someone else.

I can't think if an instance, but perhaps I'm forgetting something. Is there an example of someone being born again apart from first hearing the word of God?

Much love!

Hi brother-not according to my knowledge and reading the Scriptures, but you may correct me if I'm wrong.
Makes me wonder why is the Bible the number 1 seller when it is not read or being studied.

Scriptural Basis for Hearing the Word of God and Being Born Again:
John 3:3-5:

Jesus tells Nicodemus, “Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again... unless they are born of water and the Spirit.”
This indicates that spiritual rebirth is a work of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 10:17:

“Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.”
This emphasizes that faith, and by extension spiritual rebirth, comes from hearing the gospel.
1 Peter 1:23:

“For you have been born again, not of perishable seed, but of imperishable, through the living and enduring word of God.”
Peter connects the experience of being born again with the imperishable seed of God’s word.
James 1:18:

“He chose to give us birth through the word of truth, that we might be a kind of firstfruits of all he created.”
James also indicates that the new birth is through the word of truth.
Analysis and Examples:
Cornelius (Acts 10):
Cornelius is a notable example that illuminates the relationship between hearing the Word and the work of the Holy Spirit. Although Cornelius is described as a God-fearing man who prayed regularly, his conversion and reception of the Holy Spirit are directly linked to hearing Peter preach the gospel.

Cornelius’ Devotion:

Cornelius is introduced as a devout man who feared God (Acts 10:1-2).
An angel appears to him, instructing him to send for Peter (Acts 10:3-6).
Hearing the Gospel:

Peter preaches the message of Jesus Christ to Cornelius and his household (Acts 10:34-43).
As Peter speaks, the Holy Spirit falls on all who heard the message (Acts 10:44).
Reception of the Holy Spirit:

Cornelius and his household receive the Holy Spirit, evidenced by speaking in tongues and praising God (Acts 10:45-46).
They are subsequently baptized in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 10:47-48).
In this example, Cornelius’ devoutness and prayers set the stage, but the critical moment of rebirth by the Holy Spirit coincides with the hearing and accepting of Peter’s proclamation of the gospel.

Theological Implications:
Interplay of Word and Spirit: The New Testament consistently teaches that the Holy Spirit works through the proclamation of the Word. The process of being born again involves both the divine initiative of the Holy Spirit and the human response to the gospel message.

No Clear Biblical Example of Spiritual Rebirth Apart from the Word: There is no explicit biblical example of someone being born again without some interaction with the message of the gospel. The Holy Spirit's transformative work often happens in conjunction with the hearing of the Word.

Glad to see you are still around @marks

You only have to know about Jesus.....you don’t have to read any Bible.

Just as Gods word says..the Father draws us to Jesus...no one can come to the Son except through the Father.

God brings us to initially believe in Jesus...you wouldn’t know how to bring your heart/ spirit to Jesus?
How can you hear without being Born Of The Spirit ..

How does the Holy Spirit draw us to Jesus?
It is the love “poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit” (Rom. 5:5) that enables us truly to “see” who the Lord Jesus is and to grow in love for Him. Drawing our hearts to the beauty and tenderness of Jesus, the Holy Spirit reveals to us, most of all, the depths of God the Son's infinite love for us.
You must be Born Of The Spirit.

If you hear then you must already be Born Of The Spirit.

You believe that hearing makes your spirit Born Again.

That’s not the word of God.

Where do you know God?

Hearing doesn’t make our spirit Born Again...that is not Gods word..best not add to Gods word.

You must know Jesus in your spirit..that’s why our spirit must be Born Again...Gods Witness His Living Holy Spirit..Witnesses The Truth Of Jesus to our heart/ spirit.

How else would you know Jesus , without the Living Holy Spirit witnessing that truth to your spirit.

No good posting reams of scripture if you can’t even explain what in you has been Born Again...you need God’s witness to lead you through scripture.

Jesus had to die and be resurrected , after that we are then able to become Born Again.

It was because of Jesus death and resurrection that our spirit can become Born Of His Spirit.

That’s our life saving card back to God...which only Gods Living witness can do...The Holy Spirit, is the only one who can bring our spirit from death into newness Of Life.

Spirit gives birth to spirit....that is the Living/ supernatural / spiritual birth.

Born Again of imperishable seed that liveth and abideth forever.....

You only have to know about Jesus.....you don’t have to read any Bible.
Now IF I should continue to say you are in error re this emphatic statement-I guess I'm in "hot water" right?

How can you know anything of Jesus without the Scriptures? What is the gospel according to the Scriptures-the dunamis of God?

Who bears witness with our spirit that we are Gods Children.

Certainly not the written word..Gods Living witness that is who,..then the written word backs up what the Spirit testifies with our spirit..the Living Holy Spirit....is Gods Living Witness and the Written word backs up what the Holy Spirit witnesses to our spirit.

The Bible is a spiritual book, it tells you the story of Jesus...to understand that Jesus is who the Bible says he is, then one must be Born Of The Spirit...how else would you know that Jesus was God’s Son...you need to know that in your spirit...hence being Born Of The Spirit...that’s a Living spiritual birth..just as Gods word says..Spirit gives birth to spirit.

Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.

So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God will curse Jesus, and no one can say Jesus is Lord, except by the Holy Spirit.

Therefore I want you to understand that no one speaking in the Spirit of God ever says “Jesus is accursed!” and no one can say “Jesus is Lord” except in the Holy Spirit.

Therefore I inform you that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit

I'm glad to see you here today!

I was just looking thought my word search of "preach" in the NT. 141 times it appears in various forms. These are a few that jumped out at me.

Titus 1:2-3 KJV
2) In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
3) But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;

Romans 15:19 KJV
Through mighty signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit of God; so that from Jerusalem, and round about unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ.

1 Corinthians 1:18 KJV
For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Preaching seems to have the prominent place in Scripture, even over signs and wonders.

Much love!

Amen and amen and what grips my attention is this--

The phrase "faith comes by hearing" originates from Romans 10:17, where the Apostle Paul discusses the importance of preaching the gospel for people to come to faith in Christ. Let's delve into an exegetical analysis of this passage:

Romans 10:17 (ESV):
"So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ."

Exegetical Breakdown:
Context:

Paul is addressing the issue of Israel's rejection of the gospel and the means by which people come to faith in Christ (Romans 10:1-21).
He emphasizes the necessity of preaching the gospel to both Jews and Gentiles for them to believe and be saved.
Faith Comes by Hearing:

"Faith comes from hearing":
The Greek word for "faith" is "πίστις" (pistis), which denotes trust, belief, or faithfulness.
The phrase "comes from hearing" emphasizes the origin or source of faith, indicating that hearing plays a crucial role in the process of believing.
"And hearing through the word of Christ":
The Greek term for "hearing" is "ἀκοή" (akoē), referring to the act of hearing or listening.
"Through the word of Christ" points to the content of what is heard, specifically the message about Jesus Christ and His redemptive work.
Significance:

Paul highlights the indispensable role of preaching or proclaiming the gospel in bringing people to faith.
Faith is not generated spontaneously but is the result of hearing and responding to the message of Christ preached by others.
Theological Implications:
Preaching as a Means of Grace:

Preaching the gospel is a means through which God extends His grace and calls people to faith.
Active Response to the Word:

Faith is not a passive experience but requires an active response to the proclaimed Word of God.
Hearing involves not only physical reception but also spiritual openness and receptivity to God's message.

Word-Centered Faith:

True faith is grounded in the message of Christ (the Word), emphasizing the centrality of Jesus' person and work in the believer's trust and allegiance.
Application:
Proclamation of the Gospel:

The passage underscores the importance of evangelism and the proclamation of the gospel message.
Believers are called to share the good news of Jesus Christ with others, knowing that faith comes through hearing.
Active Engagement with Scripture:

Individuals are encouraged to engage with the Word of God through reading, studying, and listening to its proclamation.
Faith is nurtured and strengthened as believers immerse themselves in the message of Christ.

Prayerful Dependence on God:

While preaching is essential, ultimately, it is God who grants faith (1 Corinthians 3:6-7).
Believers are called to pray for the Holy Spirit's work in opening hearts and minds to receive the gospel message.
Conclusion:
Romans 10:17 emphasizes the pivotal role of hearing the Word of God, specifically the message about Jesus Christ, in the process of coming to faith. Through preaching and proclamation, individuals are called to actively respond to the gospel message, leading to a transformative trust in Christ. This passage highlights the partnership between human proclamation and divine grace in the work of salvation, underscoring the centrality of the Word of Christ in the formation of faith.

Peace to you and family brother.

Johann.

11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
