Many claim the abomination of desolation (AOD)spoken of by Daniel and Jesus has not been fulfilled yet, and another Temple needs to be rebuilt in the future in Jerusalem in order to fulfill this prophecy.

The easiest way I have found to prove this doctrine is false is by Jesus’ own words. Below both Jesus and the apostles, were speaking of the Temple and buildings they were looking at "with their own eyes."

The words of God confirm this truth.....
Mark 13:1-413 And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, seewhat manner of stones and what buildings are here!
2 And Jesus answering said unto him, Seest thou these great buildings? there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives over against the temple, Peter and James and John and Andrew asked him privately,
4 Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign when all these things shall be fulfilled?

So Jesus was telling them about the destruction of the Temple they were looking at "with their own eyes."
Notice in Mark's account above there is only one question asked about when shall these buildings be destroyed, and what sign would there be prior to this event, concerning the abomination of desolation.
But in Matthew's account pay attention to the question and the prophecy, as 2 separate questionsare asked of Jesus.

Matthew 24:1-3
24 And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: and his disciples came to him for to shew him the buildings of the temple.
2 And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?

So in Matthews account not only was Jesus asked about the destruction of the Temple they were looking at "with their own eyes", but also about the signs of Christ’s second coming and also about the end of the world.

Now to Luke's account…..

Luke 21:5-7

5 And as some spake of the temple, how it was adorned with goodly stones and gifts, he said,
6 As for these things which ye behold, the days will come, in the which there shall not be left one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.
7 And they asked him, saying, Master, but whenshall these things be? and what sign will there be when these things shall come to pass?

Again notice they are speaking of the Temple and buildings they are looking at "with their own eyes." And so Jesus tells them "the signs" given before the temple is to be destroyed….

Luke 21:20 “And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.” ( This is the abomination of desolation event spoken of in Daniel)

This event concerning the destruction of the cityof Jerusalem that Jesus and the apostles were looking at "with their own eyes "is also confirmed by Jesus in
Luke 19:41-44 “And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it. Saying, If thou hast known, even thou, at least in this day, the things which belong unto thy peace! But now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side. And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.”

So the common mistake here is to think that the abomination of desolation concerning the destruction of the Temple is yet future, and has anything to do with the second coming of Christ and the end of the world almost 2 thousand years later.
But when you understand the questions asked of Jesus was in two parts, then hopefully you will see these 2 events are separate from one another and are many, many years apart. Also the time line concerning "when" the AOD was fulfilled has nothing to do with the timeline 70 week prophecy in Daniel.

The end of the 70 week prophecy, and the fulfilling of the AOD prophecy are about 40 years apart from one another.
And it is also very clear in all accounts given in Matthew, Mark, and Luke that Jesus and the apostles were talking about the Temple and surrounding buildings they were looking at "with their own eyes".

There is no need for a future Temple to be built to fulfill this AOD prophecy, as it has already been fulfilled in 70 a.d. when the Roman army surrounded, and then destroyed Jerusalem and the Temple. Both the words of Jesus and history prove this to be true. With the abomination of desolation events already being fulfilled, we can now focus on the events leading up to Christ's second coming, and on the signs concerning the end of this world.

Prove all things by the words of God. Peace and God bless

first think you have to do is look at the difference between a destruction of a temple. and an Abomination which causes the temple to be desolate.

In Mark, We see Jesus speaking of the events which led in 70 AD. where the city and temple was destroyed. there was no abomination of desolation in 70 AD.

In matthew, we see a different story. Jesus says when you SEE the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet STANDING in the HOLY PLACE..

The event in mark was the temple being destroyed, like it was under babylon

The even in Matt is an abomination (literally an Idol or unclean thing) standing in the holy place making it desolate, and causing sacrifice and burnt offering to cease because the holy place is unclean, we saw this when Antiochus epiphanies slaughtered a Pig in the holy place causing the Maccabean revolt.

If we do not learn the differences, we will get prophecy wrong.

The abomination of desolation will be placed in Jerusalem by the United States armed forces at the time of the end.

At the time of great tribulation, the likes of which has never been seen.
At this time.

Daniel 12:1-2
And at that time Michael the great prince shall stand up, that stands over the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of tribulation, such tribulation as has not been from the time that there was a nation on the earth until that time: at that time thy people shall be delivered, even every one that is written in the book.
And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to reproach and everlasting shame.

That's total fantasy.
False.
It is total reality. It is used against the nations that have attacked and conquered Israel.
This is an effect caused by the abomination that causes desolation.

Zech 14
12 And this shall be the plague wherewith the Lord will smite all the people that have fought against Jerusalem; Their flesh shall consume away while they stand upon their feet, and their eyes shall consume away in their holes, and their tongue shall consume away in their mouth.

It's a very useful device to use against an enemy.

Well, we will agree to disagree on whether the U.S. military will ever take the step you predict.

The US is the only nation that has used it against another nation.
It will also use it against Israels enemies after they have overwhelmed Israel.

no matter what it is, it has not happened yet..

The people of the prince who was to come destroyed the city and sanctuary.

And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

That is one event.

then there will be another event.

Then he shall confirm a [k]covenant with many for one week;
But in the middle of the week
He shall bring an end to sacrifice and offering.
And on the wing of abominations shall be one who makes desolate,

Even until the consummation, which is determined,
Is poured out on the [l]desolate.”

He is the prince who is to come

He will come from Rome

He puts an idol in the holy place. rendering it unclean, and causes sacrifice and burnt offering to cease.

EG, I have a question for you, and others:

How do you, or any other prophecy scholar here, differentiate the time of Antiochus epiphanies, from the time thought to be about 70 AD? When I read Daniel I do not always see how those who have studied this deeply know when the text refers to one or refers to the other. I'm not a scholar on Daniel, but I've often wondered this. I have always held the traditional view, and still do that the 490 years of Dan. 9:24-27 ended at the stoning of Stephen after his sermon of indictment of the Jews, and 70 AD is the sentence being carried out. I'm one who considers the various orthodox views of eschatology matters of theory, and not meant to divide the believers because the various views can show biblical support.

Messiah the Prince is the one who brought into force the New Covenant. Jesus was crucified in the middle of the final week, and by His sacrifice there is no more need for animal sacrifices and burnt offerings for sin.

But what are we told will happen at the end of the 490 years? and who is it directed to?

“Seventy [e]weeks are determined For your people and for your holy city,

So we see here, It is the people of Daniel (Israel) and his holy city (jerusalem)

To finish the transgression,

Israel is still in sin today, they have not finished their transgression. Even Paul in romans 11 says they are our enemy concerning the gospel.

To make an end of sins,

They have not ended the sins that have caused God to destroy their city and sanctuary, and scatter them all over the world according to Lev 26, nor have they repented, as required in Lev 26

To make reconciliation for iniquity,

Jesus did this on the cross.. But remember, the hidden mystery was still in effect. The prophet says that the redeemer will come to Zion and redeem them from their sins..

To bring in everlasting righteousness,
To seal up vision and prophecy,

And to anoint [g]the Most Holy.

Technically non of these have occured yet either. Jesus is not sitting on Davids throne, There is still prophecy that is yet future, and the world is still in lots of sin. Its not the peace and calm that is spoken about when the messiah rules with a rod of iron.

As for Antiochus epiphanies. He is found in Daniel also. and we have historical records that he did this while the Greecian empire was in control (rome had not ascended yet) and Jesus spoke of the abomination of desolation as a future event.. so it could not have been what he did Jesus spoke of. But we can use it as an example of what it will be like..

no, this is in error.

He was cut off AFTER (at the end or immediately following) the 69th week.

The 70th week has not even begun yet. no prince of rome has confirmed any 7 year covenant with anyone.

The new covenant is not for 7 years. it is an eternal covenant.

The abomination of desolation is an object that can be seen from miles away.It is seen in the heavens by them who are in their fields and on their rooftops.
A terrifying site to see that will give some a heart attack. It darkens the heavens so the the sun and moon do not give their light and the constellations are not seen.

It is used to innihilate many.

Daniel 11:44
But reports from the east and the north will alarm him, and he will set out in a great rage to destroy and annihilate many.
