I have read the writings of those who have graduate degrees from seminaries and have seen how much they look like word-smiths in their writings. They ignore the elephants in the room of certain topics - or skip over the topics - period.
It took time for me to accept that the things I had both been taught AND taught to others was wrong. That happened when I prayed repeatedly for the truth. Then, when conviction landed on me; it was a bit traumatic. I prayed the God take it away from me because it changed my life dramatically. He didn't take it away, but I have the peace in knowing rather than the stress of rebelling.
Please listen to some of these messages..
I found this teacher to be on the same page of those who faced the same walls we had.
And.. He never asks for money...

A most helpful teacher for those who connect with his thrust.

On the right you will see that its a continuing series on a theme.

Oh, I listen and I read. Then, I pray and ask Yahweh for truth. Our world is full of "smart guys with degrees." It is also full of bad theology presented as doctrine.

I enjoy group scripture studies where views are proposed and researched as a group. Never, though, do any of the group declare themselves correct. That is left for God to show.

If they are stupid, you should be able to refute them, right?
Can you take the challenge?

/
A conflict with this very same issue of refuting?
Is one that Ive been struggling with for years!
Should these ones' who need refuting having been given strong delusion (by God Himself) that they should believe a lie?
Who am I to go against God in trying to instruct/teach/refute one?

Proverbs 12:1
Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge,
but whoever hates correction is stupid.
Dumb = cannot get it.
Stupid = will not get it.

Face it, we are in the last days and it is becoming popular to say "I'm leaving the Faith". I mean, what faith are the talking about? None are saying they told the Holy Spirit to leave them alone, because they never had the Holy Spirit in the first place. If they did have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, they would not make YouTube video's trying to get subscribers, denying the work of the Holy Spirit.

That's a good question. "... what faith are the talking about?"
One of the things I discovered after years on Christian forums is that fewer and fewer Christians are connected to the institutional church.

I was bothered by this initially. So I got after these folks about getting to church. Not neglecting the assembling of ourselves. (Hebrews 10:25)

Church attendance, support and participation had always been important to me. I am still in the church.

What I discovered was that these folks had various reasons not to attend. But they were not unbelievers. Just unable to attend.

None are saying they told the Holy Spirit to leave them alone, because they never had the Holy Spirit in the first place.
That's a grand claim. And not true according to their personal testimonies.

If they did have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, they would not make YouTube video's trying to get subscribers, denying the work of the Holy Spirit.
Another grand claim. Tribalism. Marginalizing anyone outside the accepted group.

People leave the Faith because they never found it beyond the baby stage.
For truth must be fought for until its found in good quantity.
They began with salvation faith only to quit when it became too much for them.

When it became too much for them was where God's grace would have started working in.
Instead... the retreat from growing in faith.

Not really. I have been a minister in different churches, and many people think they were saved by water baptism. I served in a Methodist church and the literature on baptism there was rife with the water baptism for saving, mixing up scripture and often quoting Peter in Acts 2:38. Even many Catholic, Methodist, and Lutheran church's have Preachers that think they are saved that way. You couldn't argue with them, they were set in there ways. Its easy for me to see them "walking away" because of that. On top of that, many more believe that going to church saves them.

That is why Jesus warned about the following problem that would infiltrate the church......

“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road
that leads to destruction, and many enter through it."
Matthew 7:13

Their capacity to grow in grace and knowledge will be destroyed by believers having a desire to be told what to believe as they would want to believe it.
The bad choices will be many (wide) as the variations in human desire, will be "broad and wide."

The "narrow gate" is for those who find one of the few good teachers who are strict and educated.... Who narrow everything down for them with sound exegesis.

Sorry.... Jesus can not lie... Jesus said... "few will find it."
Many believers will desire something found on the broad and wide way = thousands of denominations,
Each one designed to hold an appeal to the many variations we find in human subjective desire.

For the time will come when they will not put up with sound doctrine.
Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great
number
of teachers
to say what their itching ears want to hear.
2 Timothy 4:3

Only a few teaching will be true and faithful...
Having many differing teachers reveals there is a real problem as to why so many conflict in what they choose to believe.
Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers,
because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly."
James 3:1

God will always provide a few good teachers for every given generation...
Only a few!
Popularity will not be the place to seek to find one's true security....

From the OP:

Bible scholars are leaving Christianity in droves. Why?
Not because they don't understand the Bible, obviously. (they're Bible scholars)

- Do you have to be Christian to believe in God?
- Do you have to agree with the institutional church's positions to believe in God?

Previous topic on this subject.

I don’t believe most actually leave the faith. I also don’t believe most of the find the Bible incompatible with science and history. Instead they find that a biblical interpretation that treats scripture as historical and scientific is incompatible. They leave behind a specific form of Christianity and find another. Sometimes the inside to drop the terms Christian because of the baggage now tied up into it and it’s easier to identify as another type of faith that upholds God and Jesus. Many are just accused of leaving the faith because conservative fundamentalist don’t accept anything but their watered down faith.

Like in many. Many constantly say I’m not a Christian, or that I do t believe in God or the
Bible when the truth is I just don’t believe in their interpretation of it. My faith is very much intact and strong.

They never truly KNEW HIM .
Many many to this day do not TRULY KNOW HIM and their faith HAS NOT and IS NOT IN HIM .
many followed and beleived in another jesus . now at the end this other jesus
is bringing them all into the concepts of interfaith . Many love the idea behind the lie of interfaith .
That no ones truth is any better than the others . THEY love sin , they love the god who giveth them
false peace and even honors their sin and UNBELIEF IN CHRIST . we got a HUGE deceptoin these days my friend .
AND ITS A UNIFYER meant to UNITE the lost as one under what they all will beleive is THE LOVE OF GOD
and or LOVE itself . The devil is a liar and he knows how to surely decieve .
The sheep , YEAH they dont HEED the voice of a stranger , They follow CHRIST
and love the TRUTH . They feast upon the holy words of the LORD , as it is THEIR MEAT .
They FOLLOW GOD for they follow CHRIST they heed HIS SPIRIT and they feast on HIS INSPIRED BOOK called the BIBLE .

They are 18 inches away from salvation. They need to get the information out of their heads and into their heart. Unfortunately, the knowledge is stuck in their head and didn't make it 18 inches lower into their heart.

This is a common reaction to these scholars.
But in every case they did in fact have the heart knowledge.
This is obvious if you listen to their video testimony.
These are not just academics that never got past their learning to meet their savior.
These believers hit a wall at some point and had to reconsider.

A question - how many of these scholars are Protestant? Catholic? Orthodox?

I suspect... they're Protestant, and their faith, being built on the Bible, was shaken when they started to discover some problems with the Bible.

The YouTube interviewer hasn't got the knowledge to ask the right questions. The "scholars" have to know about Jesus. You can be an Old Testament scholar and specializing in Temple worship, but that's nothing if you don't know Jesus. If I were interviewed, I would be saying Jesus this, and Jesus that, and the Holy Spirits presence in me. These people don't do that.

You can have the heart knowledge and not be born again, as that is often the issue with scholars.

They have learned more about God, Christ, Extant Greek Texts, and doctrinal positions then they need to know, and all that is.. is..

"coming to the knowledge of the Truth".

See, that is the "stepping off place" where you take a step of faith and literally BELIEVE IN JESUS.

Knowing about Jesus is not the same as knowing Jesus.

They didnt......many of them....but they can expound all the verses according to their seminary's denominational - doctrinal positions.

Even the NT says that not many wise will be saved... and that means "super educated"... and that is because education creates more analytical thinking and that is the opposite of Faith.

God created Salvation, so that you can't reason it out, and understand it analytically... and that is because He wants you to BELIEVE in it.....with your heart as that is where faith is found.
