Well, good thing for the printing press.
In
Germany, around 1440, the
goldsmith Johannes Gutenberg invented the movable-type printing press, which started the
Printing Revolution.
And thanks to the Apostles we have letters that we can refer to that were written for our learning.
I find the Bible is a handy tool that we can refer to about anything.
Yes it contains the words of God and the words of Jesus and prophets and moses and letters. So much is written there and still there is more that happened over the last how ever may millenium that is not written, not recorded for all the world to digest.
Some call it God's manual for the believer. I agree. I have a manual for my car, but I've never opened it yet. And I can still operate the vehicle.
My dad taught me how to drive when I was about 8 on an old country road. He didn't tell me I needed a manual. But it's always good to have one just incase you break down, or the engine light goes on.
The bible is a lot more focused on the overall learning of lifeskills in the spirit.
All the years of hand me downs from one generation to another coaching us according to how they understood what they read.
But I've learned a lot from peoples experiences with life without reading the book too.
It's a little difficult to study the word and show thyself approved unto God, rightly dividing the word of truth, if you don't have something to study to begin with.
But the Bible is not God. Neither is it the Word of God. It is a book that has recorded what the Word of God has said to those who wrote it down for our learning.
But God speaks in other ways as well. We hear the sounds everyday in our conscience, telling us what we should or shouldn't do.
How we should conduct ourselves in random situations. I talk to Jesus when I'm driving in my car, when I'm cooking dinner, when I go to bed and when I get up. I don't hear audible replies but I hear him talking to my heart. I know he hears me and I'm always seeking his advice.
Sometimes I will be directed to look in a certain place in the bible for reassurance or confirmation. I try not to lean on my own understanding and justify myself when I am in doubt. Most of the answers are in the bible because most humans have experienced the same experiences we have ourselves. So it's like therapy. Everybody throughout the pages sharing their experiences through time and throughout the world.
I've never found a book that I enjoy more or spend more time reading. But I do a lot more talking than I do reading the bible page by page.
I don't think I've ever read the bible from cover to cover without being sent on a mission to find something somewhere else.
And if you ask me what chapter and verse. I'm clueless. I know it's in there, but I have to find it.
Some people real good with book knowledge. But I learned a long time ago that book knowledge only gets you so far. It's when you have to get out and live those words that the most learning, first hand knowledge, street smart knowledge, stays in your memory a lot easier.
It's the experience that matters, more than just the knowledge.
You have to walk the walk and not just talk the talk if you ever really want to get anywhere in your training.
And I learn new things everyday, whether in the bible or out of the bible. God teaches us all kinds of things in many different ways.
So that's my story.
