Yes, John gives us confirmation in 1 John 3:19-24 how we can know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence. Now he who "keeps" (guards, observes, watches over) His commandments (descriptive of genuine believers) abide in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He abides in us, by the Spirit whom He has given us.

Just like in 1 John 2:3, we read - By this we know that we have come to know Him, (already know Him/already saved/demonstrative evidence) if we "keep" (Greek word "tereo" - guard, observe, watch over) His commandments. (This is descriptive of genuine believers) 4 The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep (guard, observe, watch over) His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. (This is descriptive of unbelievers)

So, to abide, remain, not to depart, continue to be present, is not something that only super saints do but all genuine born-again Christians. Failing to abide (continue) demonstrates that such people who went out from us were not of us. If they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us. (1 John 2:19)
I always get so excited when the Living word of God speaks to my heart...and I just have to shout!!!.

again, spot on.

It is descriptive of those who are saved. Not required to be saved or keep it.. Huge difference

Yes, John is not teaching salvation by faith + keeping the commandments. This is not about obtaining or maintaining our salvation by works. John is giving demonstrative evidence of those who have come to know God and belong to the truth. Huge difference indeed. John also exposes those who do not know God or belong to the truth by a lack of demonstrative evidence. (1 John 2:4; 1 John 3:10)

Salvation by faith?

I’m confused...how can we have faith before salvation?

That would be of our own faith would it not?

Faith can only come from God...it’s a gift?
Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

God's Word says that we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by our own efforts or works (Ephesians 2:8-9). Grace Alone. Faith Alone. Grace alone means that God loves, forgives, and saves us not because of who we are or what we do, but because of the work of Christ

Amen!

Yes.

We are born again first (eternal life)

then by practice and due to our new nature. and being attached to the vine, we produce fruit (works)

Amen!
Ephesians 2:8 (AMPC) - For it is by free grace (God’s unmerited favor) that you are saved (delivered from judgment and made partakers of Christ’s salvation) through [your] faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [of your own doing, it came not through your own striving], but it is the gift of God; 9 Not because of works [not the fulfillment of the Law’s demands], lest any man should boast. [It is not the result of what anyone can possibly do, so no one can pride himself in it or take glory to himself.]

Yet works-salvationists want to believe it is of works, (at least in part) of their own doing, (self-efforts) and take pride and glory in it for themselves. (self-righteousness) I often hear works-salvationists imply that even though Christ did "initially" save them, it's now up to them to pull themselves up by their own bootstraps and keep themselves saved based on their performance/salvation by works at the back door.

Amen! Yet there are those who are merely self-attached to the vine, but not actually attached, like Judas Iscariot.

This explains why Judas Iscariot did not abide in the vine, did not abide in Jesus. He was not a genuine believer, but was an unbelieving, unclean devil who betrayed Jesus. (John 6:64-71; 13:10-11)

Judas was waiting to be part of Gods army

He did not think he needed saved

when he realised Jesus did not come to free them from Rome, he left in a heartbeat. and decided he would at least get something out of it (30 pieces of silver?)

Without that vital union with Christ, there can be no spiritual life or productivity. Those who profess to know Christ but whose relationship to Him is self-attached, Christ neither saved them, nor sustains them. Eventually, the dead self-attached fruitless branches (like Judas Iscariot) are cut off.

In brief ~

#1 Sorry for having not believed.
(Called repentant)

#2 Works of God.
(Called Belief in your heart’s thoughts)
(Heart’s thoughts are mans natural spirit.)
(Man’s natural spirit is mans natural Truth)

#3 Service unto God.
(Called Confession unto the Lord God OF your Heart’s True Belief.)
(Called your reasonable Service)
(Called your living sacrifice.)

UNDERSTANDING ~ in brief ~

# 1 How a person IS believing…
(By Hearing/Receiving Gods Word)
#2 Why a person IS believing when Hearing.
(By God Gifting them with measures of FAITH, FOR Hearing/Receiving)
#3 Knowing what IS Faith.
(Gods Power WITH the person, so they CAN Believe, CAN trust their Belief)
#4 Man learning, recognizing they were naturally born of a mans SEED, Against God, Not naturally born IN Belief, and DISBELIEF IN God, IS SIN AGAINST God.
#5 Man learning, recognizing their own will-Power is weak, easily distracted, confused, wishy washy, while Gods POWER is Supreme, and ONCE Gods Power is WITH a man…
~(a) a man (of his own volition) CAN TRUST, his “good” fortunes (blessings) come from God…
And
~(b) his “hardships”, will exist, yet TRUST, God WITH them, God will COMFORT THEM, through their “hardships”.
OR …
Man can ENJOY the “good” fortunes (blessings) from God being WITH them…
And
Ignore Gods Comfort, and Become mad, doubtful, challenge, question, WHY God did not Prevent, Quickly stop, their “hardships”…
And
Man CAN Freely decide to no longer be WITH God,
(which IN TURN, God will NO LONGER be WITH them).
(Called the man having TASTED (experienced) God WITH them, having RECEIVED “good” fortune/blessing From Gods Holy Spirit….
Then the man freely deciding to REJECT being WITH God, and He WITH them.)

A man ENJOYING Gods Holy Spirit being WITH the man…
The man Receiving “good” fortune/blessings AND “Comfort” during “Hardships”…and TRUSTING in BOTH…

IS a man becoming PREPARED, to VOW by His WORD, COMMITMENT to the Lord God, and DOES SO…
By the Word of His Mouth;
From the Thoughts IN his spirit in his Heart;
A VOW from his spirit to Gods spirit, his desire to FOREVER be “WITH” the Lord God, and FOREVER the Lord God be “WITH” that man.

** As God IS Spirit…all communication, prayers, requests, OF a man…TO God
IS Always…
Via…spirit to Spirit.

A man MAKING a VOW of Confession (spirit to Spirit) to BE WITH God Forever…
IS ALSO UNDERSTOOD…

The VOW of Confession of TRUE BELIEF…
The DESIRE of the man to FOREVER have God WITH him, and the man FOREVER BE WITH God…
INCLUDES ……
The MANS WILLINGNESS to …… WHAT?

The man SIGNING his signature on a piece of Paper….like agreements made between a mans spoken word and a mans confirming word TO another man; by the proof of him having signed his signature on a contract?

No. Then What? What does God Require, and a man MUST be WILLING to Give God, by Vow, by Promise……if NOT the mans signature on an Agreement Contract?

** The VOW, the PROMISE, of the mans True Word of his spirit…TO GIVE TO GOD…
His bodily Life unto Death.
(Understanding…the Service of the Living sacrifice)

WHY? What is God going to DO with a mans DEAD BODY?

Forgive it, Cleanse it, Cover it, Sanctify it, Separate it from Un-cleansed Body’s, Seal it, Keep it WITH Him Forever, Justify it, Redeem it, Change it……TO WHAT?

A sinless, holy, glorified body, suitable (Having been Given Gods TRUTH), to Forever Be WITH God……AND…..made with the ability TO SEE God.

The Living Sacrifice…is a man while still ALIVE in his Flesh Body…is Vowing a promise for God to HAVE his Physical Dead Body…

Man waits for the manifestation of his Physical Body to DIE.

God does NOT have to wait to SEE. God accounts, what man can not see, as ALREADY Accomplish-ED.

So how does an ALIVE man, in his corrupt living body, have an accounted DEAD body, while being “treated” as though he is LIVING IN a new glorified body?

Understanding ~
The clause, the perk, the offering, IS FOR such a man TO LIVE IN Christ Jesus’ risen Living Glorified Body….until his own BODY is Glorified.
(simply called…crucified WITH Jesus…and IN Christ)

Understanding ~
The Process is ALL effected, by a mans Freewill, to hear, to believe, to confess, to willingly give his life to God, (agreeing to Gods WAY) to receive Gods Offering…..
OR NOT.

And a man WHO freely exercises his will to DO SO…..
Processes….from hearing, to believing, to confessing, to giving his life, to forever being with God…

The Process moves along…from..
With-OUT God, to With God, to WITH-IN God, to WITH God forever.

WITH God Forever is called; saved, born again, converted, made whole…
Body, soul, spirit.

Forever God will be your God, and you his son, and Forever His word shall be your word, He will give you, knowledge, understanding, counsel, wisdom, power, rest, peace, joy, perfection….which IS His Love….Forever….Amen.

Glory to God,
Taken
I'm not here asking anyone questions (it seems like your post is "informative"), I'm telling you all about what I read.

If you disagree with anything I've said, I invite you to quote those statements and bring proofs I erred.

I do apologize, but I don't see myself sifting through your gigantic post that is not even addressing specific claims I've made.

More on Eternal life

1. We have it,

1 John 5:11
And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this lifeis in His Son

1 John 5:13
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God

Notice also.. it is knowing we have eternal life that encourages us to continue to believe inthe name of Christ. Which encourages to continue to ABIDE IN HIM (as we saw earlier, to abide in him is to believe)

It is the promise of God. And he gave it to us

1 John 2:25
And this is the promise that He has promised us—eternal life.

And this is the basis of our faith, our hope

Titus 1:2
in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,

remembering that faith is the substance of things hoped for the evidence of things not seen Heb 11: 1

you see. It is the hope of eternal life. And the fact God gave it to us that keeps us believing in that hope. Which enables us to continue to abide. It’s not abiding in Christ that gives or allows us to keep eternal life. That is backwards
Yeah, as with others who raised the issue of justification, you seem to find a mutual exclusivity between Biblical doctrines, whereas I seek to believe it all: we both already have eternal life, and we are told to "lay hold on the eternal life to which you have been called", and we're told we will be repaid/harvest eternal life (Ro 2:6-16; Gal 6:6-10).

Looks as if you post your beliefs and are only interest in if someone agrees with you or not.
And IF or not, you are not interest in their view.

Does that sound right?

I'm discussing. I expect disagreement. I will not spend my time, however, sifting through gigantic posts to FIGURE OUT what they're saying--i don't do that to anyone else, so I don't expect it to be done to me--I expect to find myself being quoted, and then a clear agreement or disagreement, and Scriptural substantiations.

In what world is that unreasonable?
