Fair enough...
By in large they come from a fundamentalist, or evangelical backgrounds.
And accepted the biblical views that came with that mindset.

In every case they encountered something that didn't sit well with them.
They looked both inside and outside the Bible for answers. And found that
history and science were incompatible with biblical theology.

Advanced education played a role. These were legitimate believers,
so the claim they NEVER were a "true" Christian is false. (1 John 2:19)

There seems to be something to the idea that some people want their religious
views to be completely black and white. The gray areas are terrifying to them.

Apologetics are designed to meet that need. As a result, the honest "I don't know."
answer is unacceptable to them. I remember having my own moment in reference
to the standard evangelical explanation of "the unforgivable sin". (unbelief)
Which has ABSOLUTELY no support in the text. (Matthew 12:31)
OK, now that i read this Post i have to say that i see a problem!

Here it is from Post 7
"In every case they encountered something that didn't sit well with them.

"Advanced education played a role. These were legitimate believers,

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

There are at least two possibilities i see here.

#1 - As i said before, edumacation in a 'christian' upbringing, including college and PhD Degrees is not sufficient evidence that a person was truly Born-Again by the Spirit of God.

#2 - The mind/intellect can be a dangerous playground even for Born-Again Saints.
If our Salvation was completely dependent upon intellectual advancement, many people would never attain unto Salvation.
But the Gospel did not descend to earth seeking the minds of men to impress!
The Gospel was, is and will continue to be for children who 'believe' God's words - Faith.
Once we decide that critical analysis upon Scripture(which is Good) based upon a fallen world(which is BAD), we enter into many opportunities for doubt to creep in via 'man's testimony'.

#3 - God knows each and every individual, whether Saved or Lost. For those of us who belong to Him we are forewarned of the Battle.

Proverbs 4:23 - Guard your heart more than anything else, because the source of your life flows from it.

Acts 14:22 And when they had preached the gospel to that city and made many disciples, they returned to Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch, strengthening the souls of the disciples, exhorting them to continue in the faith, and saying, “We must through many tribulations enter the kingdom of God."

1 John 2:7 - Brethren, I write no new commandment to you, but an old commandment which you have had from the beginning.
The old commandment is the word which you heard from the beginning.

Personally, i like 'New' stuff including technology, discovery, and intellectual awareness of well - new stuff.
OLD can become, well 'old' and boring especially in our 'throw away' culture.
i admit it, my flesh desires 'New & Improved'.
Have you ever seen the 'old' and now BANNED Dorito's commercial? My wife and i bust out laughing at this.

to be continued

Bible scholars are leaving Christianity in droves. Why?
Not because they don't understand the Bible, obviously. (they're Bible scholars)

- Do you have to be Christian to believe in God?
I don't believe so. Islam, Judaism and Unitarian's share the same (similar) God - Christianity is mostly false in its doctrinal understanding and this will be seen when the Lord returns. He will unravel 2000 years of Scholarly influence which has in affect taken away the Keys of the Kingdom in the same manner as was done by the Pharisees in the Lords day.

One part of the establishment of the Kingdom of God on earth will be to subdue the Arab nations, which will happen rather effortlessly once they see Jesus' true position before God.

Have you seen the prophecy of Habakkuk 3:7?

- Do you have to agree with the institutional church's positions to believe in God?
One would hope that searcher of truth would challenge the institution to its core!

Um,sure. Bad use of English?
It would be, you drive me crazy. ;)

Maybe don't exagerate for dramatic effect? Droves implies a herd of Christian Scholars leaving the faith.
Besides, it gives the impression highly educated people find themselves unable to stay in the faith they know so much about. And that implies highly educated person's cannot continue to hold faith in the faith led by Jesus.

I agree with that.
I actually watched the videos.
The testimonies of these, and MANY others, shows that they were committed REAL Christians.

You didn't watch the videos, for whatever reason.
- Didn't have time. Yes, it would require time.
- Didn't want risk losing your faith. More likely, or for both reasons.
I vaguely remember you saying you wouldn't watch them.
You don't have to, no one does. I'm still working my way through them.
We lost internet service yesterday. Running on phone hotspot now.

Yes. If you WANT to be a Christian using your MIND is a VERY dangerous thing.
Any rational investigation might male you run screaming into the night. - LOL
Seriously?
#3 - God knows each and every individual, whether Saved or Lost. For those of us who belong to Him we are forewarned of the Battle.
Saved or Lost?
I mean, this is MUCH bigger than losing your car keys. (unless you are in a hurry to get somewhere)

- Is it God's will to save ALL of humankind?
- Is God incapable of seeing that his ultimate will and purpose are NOT thwarted by human decision?
- Will evil triumph over good?

Yes. The video was funny. "Go get your mother." - LOL
Peace to you my Brother.

i do not want to argue with you but i firmly believe 1 John 2:19 is saying that they were never truly Saved.

"They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us;
but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us."

It is by NO MISTAKE that this verse is preceeded by this:
Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.

Fair enough. Let's keep the peace.
You held to your guns, That's good.

The context is why I don't buy the standard interpretation of 1 John 2:19.
This is talking about church leaders that have gone astray. IMHO

And... is it really the last hour? (back then) What is it now? The last nanosecond?
Some believe that Revelation has already happened.

Well... I think that is the whole point here.
There are people infinitely smarter than us who don't buy it anymore.
Scary thought.

Bart Ehrman was a Christian originally. He LEFT Christianity, like the other scholars in the OP.
The title of his video is GOODBYE CHRISTIANITY.

Do four men constitute a herd of men leaving the faith?, As you had stated in your OP. Posting four videos supposedly to support your statement, Bible scholars are leaving the faith in droves.
