Romans 5:20What law?
/
That doesn't really answer my question.Romans 5:20
Moreover the law entered that the offense might abound. But where sin abounded, grace abounded much more,
Romans 7:7
7 What shall we say then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! On the contrary, I would not have known sin except through the law. For I would not have known covetousness unless the law had said, “You shall not covet.”
1 Corinthians 15:56
The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
You can’t cut verses out of a passage, you have to post in context. That doesn't really answer my question.
What do you make of this?
Romans 3:21 NIV
But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known,
to which the Law and the Prophets testify.
Observations about the law, the Law, God's law, Christ's law - four different things
- What's the difference between the law and the Law? (capital L) - What's the difference between the law and God's law? - What's the difference between the law, God's law, and Christ's law? The law, the Law, God's law, Christ's law; four different things. Agree, or disagree? Points...www.christianityboard.com

Says who?You can’t cut verses out of a passage, you have to post in context.
So we are left with faith. Of what use is the law?Notice, The law is to shut every mouth, that the WHOLE WORLD is guilty. For this reason. By the law NO ONE WILL BE JUSTIFIED
But now the righteousness APART FROM THE LAW is revealed. The righteousness which comes by faith.
Since the law condemns everyone. We have the ability to be justified by faith
their is that person faith word again. If you do not have faith, You will not be justified.
@Eternally GratefulSo we are left with faith. Of what use is the law?
And what of the Spirit? What do you know about that?
Have you had the Baptism with the Holy Spirit?
Do you speak in tongues and prophesy?
Or are you a Cessationist?
sorry. We do not cut verses out and make them fit our belief system.Says who?
I post the essence of the point I am trying to make.
Unlike you, I always give the reference and the translation so you can check out the context,

Did I scare you off with my talk of the Spirit?I cannot deal with that.. I will pray for you
That's not fair.you think we can reject Christ and get to heaven.
I could. So you can‘t respond to what Paul said.
Thought I had already answered that question recently...? The law is part of God's word and scripture itself tells us that it is profitable for a number of things. For instruction in righteousness. And for reproof, for correction, for rebuke. We are to bring our thoughts captive to the obedience of Christ...the Word. The washing of the water of the word. The entrance of the word gives light. We are to desire the sincere milk of the word, in order that we might walk according to it, and teach others to. God's laws are part of His word, it is truth. And we are to speak the truth in love, and exhort one another to obey the word/Christ.Thanks. That helps.
So, what does it mean to use the law lawfully? (properly)
It also says the law is not made for the righteous, but for the lawless.
Does that mean it is for you, or not for you?
Are you lawless, or righteous?
Furthermore, what do mean by "the law"? How do you define the term?
Have you seen my topic on the subject?

Do you keep a seventh day Sabbath? Do you wear tassels? (according to the law)Thought I had already answered that question recently...? Oh sure, but just don't ignore all the rest of the new testament scriptures while you're at it. Whole counsel of God. Ignore all the rest of God's inspired word to your peril and everyone you lead astray. This is how I remember it. The law was our schoolmaster UNTIL Christ, that we might be justified by faith.
(but gentiles never were under the law that God gave to the Israelites alone through Moses)
Galatians 3:23-25 NIV
Before the coming of this faith,[a] we were held in custody under the law,
locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed.
24 So the law was our guardian until Christ came that we might be justified by faith.
25 Now that this faith has come, we are no longer under a guardian.

Did I lead you astray by quoting this?Ignore all the rest of God's inspired word to your peril and everyone you lead astray.
I wouldn't doubt there is a lot that needs re-examining. However don't throw the baby out with the bathwater which is what you are doing. I know there is a tendency toward self-righteousness in the church, which needs correcting, but did you know that self righteousness is like a pendulum that swings in both directions? And it blinds one to the truth. I've come across believers in the last twenty plus years who actually are self-righteously and pro-actively accepting of sins in the church...they are proud of themselves for being so tolerant exactly like the passage that Paul wrote about the man who was having his father's wife and those in the church who were proud of themselves for tolerating it. Self-righteousness, yes, examine that.Don't be silly. - LOL
Just because I don't agree with you does not make me a babe in Christ.
Not to brag, but I have been a Christian for 60 years.
I was elected as a church Elder at a young age.
Been married for 44 years to my Christian wife.
I have read the Bible cover to cover. I used to teach adult Sunday School.
Have been in prison ministry. Have been overseas on a missions trip.
Served in worship ministry for 30+ years. Shall I continue?
Currently reexamining my religious upbringing.
Much to your displeasure, obviously.

The ordinances were nailed to the cross.....but not the spirit of the Law. Which says to sin not. And we may read and be instructed out of the Law as to what constitutes sin. Of which sexual sins are quite prominent.Do you keep a seventh day Sabbath? Do you wear tassels? (according to the law)
Do you follow the dietary restrictions? Guidelines for clothing?
Double bacon cheeseburgers and shellfish are out of the question.
As are mixed fabrics.
Are you really under the law that God gave to the Israelites alone through Moses?

Only if you or anyone were using it to justify tolerating grievous sins in the camp.Did I lead you astray by quoting this?
