The washing of the feet had nothing to do with Jews and Gentiles. It had everything to do with humility. Christ was humble, and He was teaching His Church humility. That was the example the Church follows. Humility does not mean to be a slave to the husband. Humility means truth.....a truth taught by Christ as her head. And Christ not only taught His Church to be humble. He also humbled Himself.Stephen100 said:No disrespect sister, but your theology is wrong again. When Jesus said "Whoever wished to be first will be last and whoever puts himself last will be first., " he was referring to the Jews and the Gentiles. The Jews always put themselves first and rejected outsiders. However, most of the Jewish people rejected Jesus, whereas most Gentiles accepted him. The Gentiles were humble and accepted the message of the few Jews who followed Jesus. It is ludicrous to take this verse and apply it to marriage, because God has already put the husband over his wife, not to abuse her, but to have righteous authority over her.
Yes, but it's ancient history :)
Christ never put the woman under her husband as a slave. He put the woman beside the husband because she is bones of his bones and flesh of his flesh. To be under someone is to be treated as a slave or servant. Eve was created from Adam's ribs (his side) because she was to stand beside her husband. Both husband and wife are one just as Christ and the Church are one.
Ephesians 5:28-30 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church: For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.
