You seem all alone Matthias.
I don't do much reading anymore...can't concentrate.
Don't know what the problem is....it's not medical.
But I'll tell you a couple of books I liked a lot when I used to read a lot.
(maybe I'll live 3.5 years longer!!)
Mere Christianity
The Screwtape Letters
Same author....purely by happenchance.
I used to teach kids our faith.
I would obligate them all to read the Screwtape Letters, but I'm not in charge and, boy, do parents get upset if you try to do something different.
I think it's a great book for pre-teens or teens -- just when they begin to become atheist.
What do you think?
Things aren’t always what they seem to be. I’m surrounded by damaged and hurting people.
Agreed. But other books have influenced me greatly also.C.S. Lewis
I think everyone would benefit by reading widely, deeply, thoughtfully and critically. Above all, by reading the Bible.
No matter the speed !Even if only a few minutes every day.
I’m a slow reader. Always have been and, I guess, always will be.
I did this in a public elementary school where I lived in Whitestone NY many years ago. Before Covid, I volunteered in public schools helping children who were struggling to read to improve their reading.
I think 1,000 is a lot! But my 2 children were reading by the age of 3.Where I live the public library has a reading program for children that rewards them for reading 1,000 books before entering Kindergarten.
Right. A lot of what was being done before that just ended. We read over 10,000 books to my grandson before he entered Kindergarten. The library also had a reading program - which was discontinued when the government shut down so many many activities during the Covid pandemic
Wonderful !- that I worked volunteer, reading one on one with children who participated. That program lead me to privately tutoring young children, at no cost, who had trouble learning to read. It was gratifying work. (I sometimes run into children I’ve helped in the past. They often don’t remember my name and call me “the reading man.”)
Do the libraries or schools in Tuscany have volunteer programs like that @GodsGrace?
