The point is you have to have both. James says in 2: (v.17) Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. The bible has been telling you all alone that you must have fruits to prove your faith.Lets look at context.
1. They claimed to have faith.
2. They did not show any evidence that that faith was real.
3. Hence their faith was dead. Non-existent)
4. Paul said we are saved by grace THROUGH FAITH
If you do not have faith according to Paul you are not saved.
The reason the people had no work is because they were still lost.
Grace is nothing more than a free gift. And that free gift is our access back to the tree of life (Jesus) which Adam caused us to lose by disobeying God. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (Romans 5: 12) But to maintain your grace you must keep the law. (1John 3:4) Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. Now we have just read the biblical definition of sin, the transgression (breaking) of the law (commandments.) It doesn’t matter what you or I think sin is, it’s what God says sin is that counts.1 John 5:4
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.
It is still By Grace Through faith not works
your works will not cause one sin to be forgiven, period
Paul said in (Phil. 2:12) Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. Now if you need not work, then why is Paul telling you to “WORK” out your own salvation, and pay close attention because he also says with “fear and trembling”.
