Sounds like the perfect description on first century JerusalemThe idea of "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT..." in Revelation 17 is about ENDTIME Jerusalem in a FALLEN WORSHIP state against GOD when the coming false-Messiah shows up there, and exalts himself as GOD.
Jesus warned us about that.
Apostle Paul warned us about that.
Apostle John warned us about that.
How is it that some claiming to be Christian don't know about that?
Ezekiel 16 is where GOD Himself called Jerusalem symbolically a "harlot" when Jerusalem in past history fell away from Him into idol worship.
But the Revelation 17 symbolic "MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT..." is for Jerusalem at the very END of this world when the coming Antichrist will show up there, and use Jerusalem as his headquarters of his beast kingdom over all nations. The very last verse of Revelation 17 identifies that MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT" harlot as a "great city", the same "great city" label used for JERUSALEM in Revelation 11 where God's future "two witnesses" will be killed.

Was Jerusalem "Babylon the Great" 2,000 years ago?
Sounds like the perfect description on first century Jerusalem
Yes she was
If that's true, and the fact this same Jerusalem is back on the map again, so to speak, how then would that make the following true?
Revelation 18:21 And a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone, and cast it into the sea, saying, Thus with violence shall that great city Babylon be thrown down, and shall be found no more at all .
I'm pretty certain I grasp what--and shall be found no more at all--means. But do you grasp what that means as well? I have my doubts if you think this was meaning Jerusalem 2000 years ago. Maybe animal sacrificing hasn't resumed, but they are certainly not Christ followers in that region today, at least not yet anyway. Nor were many of them Christ followers 2000 years ago. And this verse says shall be found no more at all. That can only mean one thing, and that is, exactly what it says. Nothing cryptic about it.
In other words, old Jerusalem exists after Babylon is said to be destroyed. That couldn't happen if Jerusalem was Babylon.
