Scripture tells us that a quiet life minding your own business is something we should all aspire to (1 Thessalonians 4:11, 2 Thessalonians 3:12, 1 Timothy 2:2)
It also says women should adorn themselves with the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit (1 Peter 3:4).
The world, especially where I am in America, encourages
- Oversharing personal and private matters on social media
- tons of selfies to seek attention for your looks
- getting upset for not being appreciated enough
- marching in the streets, activism, being vocal about different causes
- dressing immodestly
- behaving immodestly
- flirting outside of a Godly marriage just for fun and to make sure you "still got it"
When this is so common, how can we, especially women, learn to love living quietly?
We must allow ourselves to be transformed by God's values by meditating on God's Word day and night. To seek Him in the secret place even when life get's busy. And to study Godly older women who demonstrate these qualities, learning to be like them.
Godly women don't mind serving unnoticed, because they know the Lord sees and will reward. That is enough for them because they cherish their relationship with God above the opinions of anyone in the world. Godly women dress modestly out of respect for the Lord regardless of whether it causes them to stand out or go unnoticed.
Godly women are busy doing the good God has given them to do. Married women minister to their husbands, children, and guide their homes as a top priority (Titus 2:3-5). They don't have time to always be "going from house to house". In modern times, you don't have to leave your home to be in other people's houses. Social media and the internet are like virtual windows into others lives that women can often be distracted by.
We can't be distracted from the Lord, our homes, and our ministries because we are consumed with looking into these virtual windows or sharing our own lives constantly. We must quiet our need for external validation and take care of our bodies, minds, souls, and the people God gives us to minister to as the most important things.
