Brother, it makes me think of those Catholics who wilfully sin all week long knowing they can just "have communion" and "go to confession" on Sunday or whenever, to have their wilful sins absolved. Even Italian Mafia gangsters do that. Is it possible there were Jews who were of that same mind? Just do what they please and then go sacrifice a dove or a lamb to make it all right..? Aren't there believers of that mind too, thinking Jesus' sacrifice made it all right for them to do as they please? It's why the bible says we are not to use our freedom as a license to sin.

I think this is great advice..I’m not pointing the finger at anyone...I too have been guilty of thinking I know it all, where as I know very little...Christ is firm, but also very gentle with us all... then he is perfect...this is a great reminder,thank you Jim.

Brother, I think the falling away that is being spoken of in that verse has to be more than just the committing of a single sin, or even of backsliding, which people have been restored back to the Lord from according to many testimonies. I think it must be speaking of the seed of the word having died in them....the Holy Spirit departing them entirely. Maybe it happens in some because of encountering trials and becoming bitter against God, I don't know....thinking of what would have happened to Job if he had cursed God, for example.

If those who "fall away" were never born again believers to begin with, they would have had nothing to fall away from...that term just wouldn't apply to them.

The parable of the sower solves the mystery of the seed . Each soil has the seed implanted .

The candlesticks are the 7 churches, that is, 7 local assemblies. To remove "your candlestick" is to remove the messenger's ministry, the local church.

Removing their lampstand essentially means to remove the Spirit upon which those seven lamps depend.....aka, Ichabod, dead. Which doesn't seem to bode well for eternal life.....it means they are being warned that they could be rejected by God. The Holy Spirit - Jesus, HIS Spirit - is the Life of the church and every believer - "the spirit IS life"

I'd still say it means removing the lampstand itself, which is the local assembly. Isn't that the plain saying of these passages?

I think these passages are exactly true as written.

When Jesus will say, I never knew you, He will speak the truth, that there was never the relationship that is eternal life.

Aren’t we crucifying the flesh daily....?...the flesh is all about “ self” it serves absolutely no purpose whatsoever, because it’s all about us.

We deny self and follow the Spirit, easier said than done....Pride is one of the biggest barriers in our walk with the Spirit....when we are full of pride, it ruins our fellowship with Christ.

On saying that, I had to be shown that knowledge from the Holy Spirit, when we deny the self I believe God can then work in and through us,...when we hold on to pride he can’t and won’t work in us.....that’s my take on it anyway.

SIN indeed WILL harden a heart . GOD knows this . its why paul warned them to exhort daily .
Its why the early church continually reminded the church of the truth and not to sin .
We must do the same . GOD works through the church to KEEP IT safe . All warnings must be taken as truth
and heeded .

It includes those who are born again believers.

But the term elect might sometimes be referring to those the Lord foreknows will remain in Christ until the end. This is why Jesus said the false christs and false prophets would deceive IF IT WERE POSSIBLE EVEN THE VERY ELECT. Some believers will be deceived to the point of falling away, but in that passage He is calling "elect" or very elect, those God foreknows will remain faithful to the true gospel until the end....hence it's not really "possible" to deceive those who He already knows will not be deceived.

Heb 3:12-14

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.
But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.
For WE ARE MADE PARTAKERS OF CHRIST "IF" we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast UNTO THE END;
