This is about the judgment and those who are "taken" as opposed to those who are "left". It is an individual judgment.....and it is that specific.....

Luke's account also shows how specific it is....
Luke 17:26-35....
"Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man. 27 They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. 28 Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building, 29 but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all— 30 so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed. 31 On that day, let the one who is on the housetop, with his goods in the house, not come down to take them away, and likewise let the one who is in the field not turn back. 32 Remember Lot's wife. 33 Whoever seeks to preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will keep it. 34 I tell you, in that night there will be two in one bed. One will be taken and the other left. 35 There will be two women grinding together. One will be taken and the other left.” (ESV)

Strongs def of "taken" is....
"to take to, to take with one's self, to join to one's self"

  1. an associate, a companion

These are the close companions of Jesus Christ...his faithful disciples, whereas the ones who are "left" are those he rejects. ...which means "to send away
  1. to bid going away or depart

    1. of a husband divorcing his wife"
We understand what that means.....even to the dividing of "two in one bed"....or a husband divorcing his wife.

By comparing the days of Noah and Sodom and Gomorrah, the people on earth today will face the same kind of judgment. It will be that specific.....and that final. Some will have qualified for salvation and others will not.....all judged on the choices they made in their lives.
It sounds like a description of the rapture to me.

Do you know what hyperbole is?
There is no reason for the literal heaven and earth to be destroyed.....God’s creation is perfect.
It is the rulership on earth, under the control of the devil, (1 John 5:19) that will be done away with and replaced by a heavenly government, (God's Kingdom).....with Jesus at the helm.

Again you are reading right over the plain truth. Who does Peter say is going to be judged? The planet and the universe? Look again....just like the days of Noah...it is the “destruction of the ungodly”.......and just like the days of Noah, the planet survived but the wicked did not. Their judgment came from the heavens in more ways than one.

2 Peter 3:10 has been badly translated there.
The Mounce Interlinear renders that verse...
"But de the Day hēmera of the Lord kyrios will come hēkō like hōs a thief kleptēs, in en which hos the ho heavens ouranos will pass away parerchomai with a rushing noise rhoizēdon, the elements stoicheion · de will melt lyō in the intense heat kausoō, and kai the earthand kai the ho works ergon in en it autos will be exposed heuriskō."

There is no "burned up".....the word "heuriskō" does not mean that at all.
According to Strongs, it means....

  1. "to come upon, hit upon, to meet with
    1. after searching, to find a thing sought
    2. without previous search, to find (by chance), to fall in with
    3. those who come or return to a place
  2. to find by enquiry, thought, examination, scrutiny, observation, to find out by practice and experience
    1. to see, learn, discover, understand
    2. to be found i.e. to be seen, be present
    3. to be discovered, recognised, detected, to show one's self out, of one's character or state as found out by others (men, God, or both)
    4. to get knowledge of, come to know, God
  3. to find out for one's self, to acquire, get, obtain, procure"
"The KJV translates Strong's G2147 in the following manner: find (174x)"

How does "FIND" or "EXPOSED" get to mean "burned up"?......human bias and mistranslation. Are you aiding and abetting them by promoting their errors?

The "heat" in 2 Peter is God's burning anger. (Read the second Psalm and see what David prophesied about God's anger) It is not literal destruction of the planet or the universe, but like Sodom and Gomorrah literal fire may be used by God in the "destruction of the ungodly", (like water was used in his first judgment upon wicked humanity). But the earth and God's entire material creation, is not going anywhere....

It is obvious that you do no personal Bible study, but just accept what you are spoon fed....again that is your choice.
But before you post scripture, please make sure that you know what the original language says so you are not misled as to what bad translations are implying.
It’s not up to you to tell me what to post. I don’t know who is spoon feeding me because I have to work on Sundays and can’t attend Church. Everything I know is from personal study, not from The Watchtower. You have regurgitated their teachings so many times you have it memorized. You have proven that you can make the Bible say whatever you want with enough manipulation. You remind me of the January 6th Committee. I quote Got Questions because I happen to agree with them on many issues. They are not spoon feeding me, I don’t agree with everything on their site. Forum rules prevent me from posting what you sound like with your condescending attitude.

Well blindness is nothing new.......is it?
There is no disrespect in telling the truth......it can only be perceived as such.
Sounding a warning can be taken as a threat....or as something to act on.

We all choose our own “hill to die on”.....and none of us will know until it’s too late. We won’t have the opportunity to jump ship at the last moment because now is the time to make our decision.

Who is the God we worship? You clearly do not worship the same God that I do.....but does the rest of Christendom? Whose doctrines do you accept, regardless of your differing beliefs about many other things?
I worship the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. The God of the Bible. His Son is my Lord and Savior. You keep trying to lump me in with others. For you there are JWs then there is everyone else. It doesn’t work that way.

7 But by the same word the heavens and earth that now exist are stored up for fire, being kept until the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. 2Pe 3:10 - But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up

Strongs gives the definition of this word "heurískō" as.....
  • to see, learn, discover, understand
  • to be found i.e. to be seen, be present
  • to be discovered, recognised, detected, to show one's self out, of one's character or state as found out by others (men, God, or both)
"εὑρίσκω heurískō, hyoo-ris'-ko; a prolonged form of a primary εὕρω heúrō hyoo'-ro, which (together with another cognate form) εὑρέω heuréō hyoo-reh'-o is used for it in all the tenses except the present and imperfect; to find (literally or figuratively):—find, get, obtain, perceive, see."
How does "burned up" mean the same as "exposed" or "discovered"?

It sounds more like God will expose false religion for what it really is, along with all the other corruption that the devil has brought on humanity alienated from him. A lot is being exposed right now as we speak.....the whole corona virus debacle has now been shown by scientific and medical experts to be a despicable hoax that has changed the world forever, setting mankind up for the biggest economic downfall of all time. Food shortages are now the order of the day, and soaring food prices are hitting even the middle class who are suffering as much homelessness now as the poor.

Their forced vaccinations have cause more harm than the virus, and they never stopped anyone from contracting any of the resulting strains anyway. More vaccinated people died than unvaccinated people. They now know that masks were a waste of time.....hand washing would have been a better recommendation. Hand sanitizers only make the bugs stronger....like constant exposure to antibiotics force the bacteria and viruses to mutate to save themselves.
The scientists and medical experts were gagged and their characters assassinated in order to push a very wicked agenda. The truth is coming out....."exposed" for all to see, but those who swallow the propaganda will stick to their errors and never see what is right in front of their noses. None so blind....

Look back in the history of God's worshippers both Jewish and Christian.....and see that there was one truth and only one religion sanctioned by God in each era.....they all had to agree with no divisions, all taught the same truth, by the one body of teachers appointed by God to dispense his truth through them.....so how can you say that you worship the God of the Bible when you seem to think that God no longer required his worshippers to be in unity? (1 Cor 1:10) "Divisions" are proof that God is not among them.

There is biblical criteria that has to be met....only those who fulfill the criteria will pass the test. We are all either "sheep or goats"....Jesus knows which is which.....the ones "doing the will" of his Father. (Matt 7:21-23)

No, I looked it up in the Greek Interlinear and also in Strongs Concordance....and they showed me that yours was a bad translation.....it has nothing to do with being "burned up" but then you will believe whatever you prefer.....no?

See Here for a full range of translations......fascinating. :IDK:

Yeah. They all say the same thing. 2 Peter 3:10 - Bible Gateway. Your Chewbacca defense won’t change what it says. The new heaven and new earth are also mentioned in Isaiah 65:17, Isaiah 66:22, and 2 Peter 3:13.

Metaphors.....the literal heavens and earth are without defect....why would God destroy them? It’s the humans, “the ungodly”, who need to be destroyed. We have biblical examples to show us that God can indeed destroy the wicked without destroying the planet.

The “ungodly” are ruling this world under the influence of the god they serve. (1 John 5:19; 2 Cor 4:3-4)

This is about the “elements” of those ruling bodies and their supporters.....it’s why Jesus said we must be “no part of the world”....if we are found supporting its corrupt politics, it’s greedy commercialism or its false religion, we will go down with it when that destruction comes. You don’t have to believe me.....and judging by how much scripture and other evidence which you ignore, it is clear that you don’t want to know....that is your choice.

Well, many of them do......but looking at the evidence from sources that are accepted in Christendom, many of their translations are in error. Did you not notice how many translate it the way you want to read it when the word doesn’t mean “burned up”....it means “discovered” “found out”....not exactly any similarity in the expressions that you could confuse, is there? But, hey.....you can believe whatever you want to......again, that is your choice.

The “new heavens and new earth” are talking about a new earthly society, (after the cleansing of this earth by its appointed King and his angels) governed by the Kingdom of God under the direction of Jesus and his anointed co-rulers from heaven.

Again....you don’t have to believe me...but this is what the Bible says if you bother to do your own research.

Even if I accept your explanation of what it says about the earth, there is still the matter of what it says about Heaven and John’s description of the new heaven and the new earth. You are being willfully ignorant in order to make the Bible say what you want it to say. But people can read the posts, do their own research and decide for themselves.

What did Isaiah foretell about the “new heavens and new earth” that he foretold?

Isa 65:17-25.....
For look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth;
And the former things will not be called to mind,
Nor will they come up into the heart.
18 So exult and be joyful forever in what I am creating.
For look! I am creating Jerusalem a cause for joy
And her people a cause for exultation.
19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem and exult in my people;
No more will there be heard in her the sound of weeping or a cry of distress.”
20 “No more will there be an infant from that place who lives but a few days,
Nor an old man who fails to live out his days.
For anyone who dies at a hundred will be considered a mere boy,
And the sinner will be cursed, even though he is a hundred years of age.
21 They will build houses and live in them,
And they will plant vineyards and eat their fruitage.

22 They will not build for someone else to inhabit,
Nor will they plant for others to eat.
For the days of my people will be like the days of a tree,
And the work of their hands my chosen ones will enjoy to the full.
23 They will not toil for nothing,
Nor will they bear children for distress,
Because they are the offspring made up of those blessed by Jehovah,
And their descendants with them.
24 Even before they call out, I will answer;
While they are yet speaking, I will hear.
25 The wolf and the lamb will feed together,
The lion will eat straw just like the bull,
And the serpent’s food will be dust.
They will do no harm nor cause any ruin in all my holy mountain,” says Jehovah.”

Isaiah’s Prophesies were about the future “Promised Land”, the one that their literal God-given land pictured...... those ancient servants believed in a new world of righteousness that would be experienced on this earth under the rule of Messiah’s kingdom. The “new earth” was never assumed to be a new planet, but a cleansed one (like the days of Noah were after the flood) where God’s rule would prevail and where life would return to what God purposed in the beginning.....I do not see your expectations being supported by the scriptures.....there is a big picture and your scenario doesn’t fit in it....but it’s yours to have and to hold until....

Solomon told us that “the earth abides forever” so this planet is not going anywhere and neither is the universe.....there is no reason for God to destroy any of it...it was created, perfect.

Tell me what John’s description tells you......about heaven.

What did Isaiah foretell about the “new heavens and new earth” that he foretold?

Isa 65:17-25.....
For look! I am creating new heavens and a new earth;
And the former things will not be called to mind,
Nor will they come up into the heart.
18 So exult and be joyful forever in what I am creating.
For look! I am creating Jerusalem a cause for joy
And her people a cause for exultation.
19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem and exult in my people;
No more will there be heard in her the sound of weeping or a cry of distress.”

24 Even before they call out, I will answer;

Food for thought-
"Ungodly men, wandering stars for whom the blackness of darkness is reserved forever" (Jude 1:12)
So perhaps hell could also be a terrible void where disembodied souls drift helplessly forever?

View attachment 26017
I think one has to reconcile what God said happens when we die.

The body returns to the dust from whence it sprang and the soul to God who gave it. The silver cord is broken, the spirit link, first.
And then we sleep until the judgement.

Hell's origins are first a pagan underworld goddess named Hel.The rest is man's contrivance to instill fear for unbelief.

The Jews have Sheol. Not like Hell at all .

Hell will be filled with people who don't believe in Hell.

Matthew 25

Mat 24:35 - Heaven and earth shall pass away, but-my words shall not pass-away.
What??? You don't understand hyperbole? He is contrasting the impossible fact that heaven and earth could pass away with the fact that his words are equally impossible to pass away....

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more.
And you do understand that Revelation was presented in signs and symbols....not a lot of it can be taken literally, so again "the heaven and earth" here are not literal anymore than they were in Isaiah's day.

The "sea" that is "no more" is the restless sea of wicked humanity.
Isa 17:12-13..
"Listen! There is a commotion of many peoples,
Who are as boisterous as the seas!

There is an uproar of nations,
Whose sound is like the roar of mighty waters!

13 The nations will make a sound like the roar of many waters.
He will rebuke them, and they will flee far away,
Chased like the chaff of the mountains before a wind,
Like a whirling thistle before a storm wind."

Luke 21:25...
"Also, there will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth anguish of nations not knowing the way out because of the roaring of the sea and its agitation."
This roaring is not the literal ocean....it is the anguish of nations not knowing what to do because of these critical times.

Rev 17:1, 15...
"One of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me: “Come, I will show you the judgment on the great prostitute who sits on many waters. . . . .He said to me: “The waters that you saw, where the prostitute is sitting, mean peoples and crowds and nations and tongues."

Babylon the great also "sits on many waters".....Babylon the great is not a literal city, but the people who accept her false worship as their truth. (Rev 18:4-5)
Passed away—- tn For the translation of ἀπέρχομαι (aperchomai; here ἀπῆλθαν [apēlthan]) L&N 13.93 has “to go out of existence—‘to cease to exist, to pass away, to cease.’”
And that is indeed what the current wicked earthly society will experience....they will "go out of existence"..."cease to exist"... but not the planet. Solomon said the earth is here forever, 'generation after generation'..... (Eccl 1:4)

The current "heavens" have to be destroyed.....but this is not the universe......Paul identified who is really ruling this world.....he said "we have a struggle, not against blood and flesh, but against the governments, against the authorities, against the world rulers of this darkness, against the wicked spirit forces in the heavenly places." (Eph 6:12)

The demonic forces who are influencing mankind and who are creating all the tribulation on this earth, will be no more. God will do away with them.
The literal "heavens" have not done anything to require their destruction, and are without defect, so why would God destroy his handiwork just because those rebels derailed his purpose temporarily....?
It makes absolutely no sense to suggest that the literal heavens and earth are going to be replaced.....that is not what what the says.

2 Peter 3:12 -

Ellicott's Commentary for English Readers
(12) Hasting unto.--There is no "unto" in the Greek. The margin is probably right, hasting the coming--i.e., hastening Christ's coming by holy lives, by helping to make the Gospel known to all nations (Matthew 24:14), so as to "accomplish the number of the elect," and by praying "Thy kingdom come." (Comp. 2Timothy 4:8; Revelation 22:20.) The thought is singularly parallel to St. Peter's speech in Solomon's Porch (Acts 3:19-21, where see Notes); and as the thought is striking and unusual--perhaps nowhere else in the New Testament distinctly--this coincidence may fairly be admitted as a note of genuineness.
The coming of the day of God.--A phrase which occurs here only. It is doubly remarkable: (1) "coming," in the special sense indicated by the particular word used in the Greek, is elsewhere used of Christ Himself, not of the day; (2) "the day of God" is a very unusual expression.
Wherein.--Rather, by reason of which, either "the day" or "the coming" being meant.
Shall melt.--"Melt" is here correct, being quite a different word from that rendered "melt" in 2Peter 3:10, which is the same as that here translated "be dissolved." In the so-called Second Epistle of Clement (chap. 16) we have a somewhat similar passage--"The day of judgment cometh even now as a burning oven (Malachi 4:1), and [the powers] of the heavens shall melt, and all the earth as lead melting on the fire." .
